Yeah, but "favorite game of all time" usually denotes some kind of epicness. There wasn't much epicness to be had in diablo after you beat it--just lots of crazy clicking fun. I loved it too but I'd hardly ever put it near the top of my favorites.

I just reinstalled Diablo 2. I do this like once a year.

Different strokes. It's damn near at the top of my list too. Any game that can keep me engrossed (regardless of simplicity) and make me continually come back to it at least once a year is sure to make the top of my list.

As an aside, you should look into making a backup of your entire Diablo II directory and the associated registry entries in HKLM and HKCU. If you have all that you never have to worry about losing the key because rather than installing from the CDs, you just copy the files to their appropriate places and import the registry keys. I've been doing this for years. That way my old characters are still there and I don't need to run the installation. :)

I am looking forward to Diablo III very much now...looks like all you could expect from another diablo game, and just watching it was pretty fun...but I can't help but think that while it FEELS like Diablo, it doesn't LOOK like Diablo. Diablo always had a realistic art style to its scenery, characters, and violence. I'm glad to see that all the violence and gore remains (how can you have the burning hells without it?) but the art is very stylized like Warcraft and Starcraft now (obviously due to the fact that those teams are making it, not the original diablo/diablo II teams) that just doesn't LOOK like diablo. It makes me sad.

protip, take their first announced release date, and add about three years to it, then you will have a pretty good estimation of the actual release date. (ala diablo 2 and how one of the early announced release dates was supposed to be 1998.)

I can almost say that. Diablo II/LOTD is probably in the top 2 or 3.

I have not gamed in years, with the exception of a couple months of WoW in 05 and some Halo once in a while, but I think SCII and DIII are totally going to get me back on the computer playing games.

I remember this kid from my High School, totally goofy, totally clueless, I must have made a couple hundred bucks off him selling DII items to him (Half of which had no value I just hyped up and he believed it. And he would always buy a SOJ whenever I had an extra. He would always ask me "Do you have any more 'so-joes'?" as he said) 20 bucks a pop. Ca-Ching.

Haha, oh MAN I needed friends like that.

I'm in the same boat. My gaming life has been borderline non-existent, but a new Diablo game sounds like just the thing to pull me back out of society.

I tried reinstalling D2 in a fit of nostalgic desperation a few months back and it actually hurt my eyes to look at on my nice big 22" LCD. Also there was some weirdness with the isometric perspective on the newer hardware that gave me vertigo.

D3 looks neat though. I'm not holding my breath, but I'll probably be in line once it comes out.
Also, I can kill you with my brain.

Deadman, blizz gonna release a new mmo probably when Duke Nukem forever comes out.

One question about the Lich King expansion is how does being a Death Knight fit into the lore? I'm really confused i mean... aren't DKS the Scourge? I wonder what Blizzard will make up this time.

That's like never seeing star wars or indiana jones.

Love em or hate em, you should've experienced them

Maybe for starcraft...

You seriously are not missing anything by not having played Diablow

And what I'm saying is you're wrong.

Thats like saying because I have a severe dislike for Hitler I should go experience Hitler.

(Godwins law, I win.)
2008-06-29, 6:02 AM #186
Uhh... godwins law, you lose...
Also, hitler is a very important part of history, and someone not knowing about hitler would be... well I don't even know the word, but it would be weird at least.
Love him or hate him (gods forbid anyone loves him), you should know about him.
You can't judge a book by it's file size

But you shouldn't have to experience him to hate him.

So I still totally win.
2008-06-29, 6:06 AM #188
No-one can 'experience' him, he's long dead...
And you have to know about him to hate him.

Your logic agrees with me. You shouldn't have to play Diablow to know it was an overrated pile of boring.
2008-06-29, 6:10 AM #190
Other way round buddy, your logic agrees with me.
And of course you have to play it to really know if it was over-rated and boring.
Especially given something you hate might be something someone else loves.
Diablo is the perfect example for this ;)

Liking Diablo 2 is what happens when you actually give in to the urge to take morphine while playing instead of just cracking jokes about it.
