The official Presidential Elections thread

First and foremost, any and all attacks/flames will be met with strict and swift punishment. You will receive one warning for improper behavior, after which you will be banned until after the elections. Let's keep it clean, shall we?

This thread is to discuss, argue, and debate freely the positions of the two major candidates, Sen. John McCain and Sen. Barack Obama. Feel free to ask questions and to comment on others. Apply liberal use of references where possible.

The topic is not closed to our friends abroad who are interested in the elections.

I know there isn't much time left before the polls, but better late than never, right? So let's get started!

(By the way: the poll above is private!)

I turn 25 next month and have not voted in one election since I turned 18. I don't think I'm registered to vote. That said, I'm shooting for Obama.

It's obviously biased, but it's nowhere near as idiotic as McCain's.

For some reason I doubt it.

They fought so that we can say, "No I don't want to vote" if we want too. That's the whole point.

Canadian. If I were US though, not sure, I don't know much about them.

Sounds like Obama is the good guy this time, maybe him.
2008-11-03, 1:15 PM #19
I.m not American, but I would vote for Obama over McCain. America failed pretty hard by re-electing Bush, and unfortunately it's still possible that they'll fail again by electing McCain.
Looks like we're not going down after all, so nevermind.
2008-11-03, 1:35 PM #20
I love when people that aren't from America give their opinion on who they think should run our country. Most of you outside the US only hear what the main stream, and drive by media have to say. Same places these polls are coming from.

But anyway, I found this on the web.. maybe it's helpful? Based on it though, I choose McCain.

Looks like some do.

Anyways, I'm not voting for a president, just the local propositions.

Zan, that chart did help some. I now dislike McCain more for not supporting gay pride/education at all. Douche. :/

Well, for starters, I'm not voting for Obama. Also, it's a political advertisement. You expect bias, but that was just insulting.

I wish. My family and I moved to Louisville, KY about a year ago.

[joke]

Zan, you're an anti gay.

[/joke]

:P

Based on that pic, I still chose Obama. Not like I can vote for him though, and I really don't give a **** who you guys chose to run your country. It's your country. Just make sure he doesn't **** with our country.
2008-11-03, 2:06 PM #26
I'm not anti gay ;).. honestly I'd like to see McCain support some of that stuff.. but it's all about the party and what they want to support. Unfortunately those issues aren't as important to me as say like, the assault weapon ban. It's about our freedoms. Homosexuals still have freedoms. But when they start taking our guns away they are taking away our freedoms from all of us, black, white, gay, massassian, ect..

If Obama wins, I'm going on a gun buying spree.

lol, you focus too much on guns. I personally don't see any good in guns, except for countering it's own bads (and perhaps a few others.)

But whatever, I'd actually like to be able to buy guns. It'd make me one hell of a happy film-maker.

well how you feel, or how anyone feels about them.. doesn't matter. It's a constitutional right to bear arms.. Then people will argue that they are assault weapons and no body needs to own one of those.. Next, it's 50 cals and 10 gauge shot guns. Then its .45 and sub compacts. Then it's semi auto.. Where is it going to stop?

People who buy guns aren't necessarily going to go on a killing spree. Could be they just find them interesting and like to collect, like I collect knives. Doesn't mean I fantasize about stabbing people. Therefore I don't see a real problem.

Just because Obama doesn't agree with our firearm laws doesn't mean he's going to try and take the guns away from you. He's said so himself.

Well he probably wont I realize this. He wouldn't be able to in 8 years, but I can see further down the line years later. A simple ban now, could turn into banning all in the future.

I would vote if we had a popular election. Alas, I much prefer to spend that half hour tomorrow doing something not wholly pointless.

I'm not sure I trust that chart, cause I'm pretty sure Obama doesn't favor the immediate withdrawal, although he might have at some point
2008-11-03, 4:01 PM #38
I don't like the way Bob Barr was lumped in with all write-in candidates.

The reason people's votes don't matter is because they think their votes don't matter. If you got over this idea that you HAVE to vote for one of the two, otherwise you're throwing your vote away, we would have a viable third party tomorrow. And then we could get rid of all this bull****, and people would actually have a chance to vote for someone they agree with, and not waste their time figuring out which of the 'only two that stand a chance' they disagree with less.

Two candidates just isn't enough.
2008-11-03, 4:05 PM #39
Incidentally. Obama canceled his rally in Manassas VA, which I was going to check out, because his grandmother died. That douche. :argh:

Lol, never said they would.

I am saying though, that those who do, will have the tools to do so.

Anyway, I'm off to the crap posting thread, this isn't my area :P
