Temperamental, do you feel the same way about TV? The radio? Magazines, books?
No one is "someone from the internet", we all go on the internet to talk to strangers there (though some will already know each other). The topics concern real life matters which affect people outside the internet, and which people feel one way or the other about. If someone says something you disagree with, perhaps something they're being confrontational about, it's okay if you challenge them on it because you want to point out what you think they're being dumb about and why. Whether it's wise to respond to a confrontational message with confrontation as well is questionable, but people do it online, in other media and face to face as well (though to a lesser degree due to the increased social impact of the situation). People will also attribute varying levels of acceptance to others, regardless of being on the internet.
It's true that this hasn't been a very civilized discussion, and I fully realize that there are far more constructive ways of saying what I for instance have said here. But this coming into a thread with the "you all need to go outside and stop taking the internet seriously" routine has seriously grown old, tired and meaningless in an age where the internet is a larger part of people's daily lives and of society than perhaps something like newspapers are. Oh hey, did you know that it's now even possible to use the internet...WHILE OUTSIDE?! Damn, there goes one of your major condescending clichés.
Also, what's seen here is hardly akin to Gamefaqs (assuming that place is what it used to be) and such.
