The Passion of the Christ

There is only one word to describe my reaction to this movie.

Wow.

That was the most powerful thing I have seen quite possibly in my entire life. I cried through two of the scenes, and was literally shaking through most of it. You all absolutely must see this movie.

If you've seen it already, post your reactions/thoughts/etc.

Having seen the movie...

I highly doubt that there is any way you two could see it and not be moved in some way.

I'm a bitter young man who takes pleasure in the suffering of others. So I guess I'll be moved, but in the happy kind of way. [http://forums.massassi.net/html/tongue.gif]

Seriously though, I think it's all a bunch of hogwash, anyway. I don't see how fiction is going to trigger some emotional response in me. Unless there are kittens.

The reaction of "OMG ANTI-JEW BAN BAN BAN" was overreacting, I am really hoping to see this movie soon. No matter what is the subject or anything, if the movie is good then it is good.

But I have to wait. [http://forums.massassi.net/html/smile.gif]

I had absolutely no interest in seeing this movie at all, until I saw a review on TV last night which described it as 'more violent than Kill Bill'. Now, my curiosity has been piqued.

I wanna see it, then at the 30 minute marker walk out and ask for a refund cause it was so boring.

Or just watch it and say at the end "Finally". Or maybe cry. I dunno, I have seen nothing about this movie at all, but everywhere I turn I keep seeing stuff online, but up until now (finished downloading) I never saw a preview for it.

And the Count of Monte Cristo is Jesus. Hehe.

I'll have to see it at some point. I'm not religious (unofficially/personally speaking), but it seems like an interesting depiction of the Bible's events.

A good movie is a good movie, regardless of the subject. (Not that I know whether this is a good movie or not just yet.)

*****MILD SPOILERS*****

Oh you'll be moved by it. In one way or another. I didn't find much insight in terms of my religious perspective (I'm a christian, and I was looking for little details that were in all the gospels).

If the acting of Mr. Caviezel doesn't do it for you, his humbleness and nonagressive attitude, then the pools of blood and torn flesh will.

Yes, it's gorier than Kill Bill

No, it's not an action movie, so don't go in expecting to be like "OMQ HIS HEAD JUST GOT CHOPPED OFF AND SPRAYED BLOOD, THEN THAT GUY'S ARM GOT CHOPPED OFF AND SPRAYED MORE BLOOD", expect to be like "dang...that was pretty...gory. holy crap. and they're still going. Where did his skin go? Can the human body really bleed that much? EEeewww..."

Don't worry, "God will give him justice."

Don't suppose the warden of the prison in Monte was leading Jesus here? "Let's make a bargain. You ask God for help, and I'll stop the moment he shows up."

While it does look entertaining, I think I'll wait till PassionOTC comes on HBO or something.

Have you ever been moved by any movie... Ever? Torture of William Wallace in Bravheart? Sacrifice of bruce willis in Armageddon? Anakins sacrifice for his son in RotJ? Or by any story in history such as the story of the Alamo?
Cuz by what I've read and by my own expectations anything you have ever seen could not compare to the sacrafice put forth in this movie.

Jin, I don't see where this whole "fiction cannot affect me" notion came from, but it's complete BS and you know it.

Edit: You too, Flexor.

I think people should see this for historical purposes if not for religious ones. The movie shows what Christianity is all about. The story in The Passion is what got Christianity going in the first place. You could actually judge Christian history since then and get an idea of how screwed up the Church is. You see it's nothing like Christ. When you see the movie, and you see a man who's just had his skin ripped off, try imagining Him fighting in the Crusades. Then take that thought a step further and try imagine Him telling the disciples that. It doesn't add up at all. I mean...if you want to believe that Christianity is actually a good religion, despite the Crusades and witch trials, then see this movie. You'll find it pretty easy to see that it's a good religion. Once you get into the rest of the Bible, you'll see more of the same.

And for those of you who are either:

--not going to see the movie
--only see it for the violence
--only see it when it comes out on video

...don't do any of those. Try to be more open to the thing, even if you're not a Christian. It's not going to hurt you to see it, is it? You never know...you might actually like it. It might change your life and make it better than it already is. Just don't knock it till you've tried it is all I ask.

I think I'm going to see it tonight. Hope I'll like it, but I definitely think the coolest part I've heard about it so far is the 'in Aramaic/Latin' bit.

But I was reading the local paper and was disgusted by the stupidity of people who are alive.

Quote:
<font face="Verdana, Arial" size="2">I'm glad I saw it. Now I know what Jesus went through. [Jesus] gives a new meaning to the New Testament.</font>

then some by actual pastors:

and this cool guy who is the community leader of Young Life, a national Christian outreach program:

Quote:
<font face="Verdana, Arial" size="2">I think it was presented very well. The gospels were acurately depicted but there were some Catholic elements.</font>

I'm hoping that people quoted in newspapers regarding movies just seem to be 99x dumber than the average person but... that last comment... How can he call himself a Christian?
