I got it last night and played it about 45 minutes before bed. So far it's kicking some major ***. About the only thing that I'm not a big fan of is the blood splatter effect when you shoot/hit someone. Other than that, it's grrreat.

I can't stop harvesting the little sisters.

I keep thinking it's wrong, and while I'm fighting the daddy, I think I won't, but when it gives me the option, I'm just a sucker for the Adam and more plasmids.

Meh, demo won't run even on low.

Sound randomly distorts.

The PC demo ran beautifully on mine, with no slowdowns.

However, the game also didn't look much better than Doom 3 with fancy water. What the heck?

I don't think the card in my laptop has enough memory. :/

I almost wonder if I should buy the other 7 series card that will fit and has twice the memory/is faster..

Or if I should wait until around christmas and trade up for whatever has the most rad 8 series card in it.

It's not meant to be a graphical test game, it's merely using existing technologies to create a great atmosphere.

A f-ing amazing atmosphere

Ew.

I don't want to be raped by a fat guy that still plays with toys in his parent's basement.

How well would this run on 1gb of DDR2 (I believe) RAM, an AMD 3000+ Athlon XP, and a Radeon X1800GTO? Game specs on boxes are misleading, and the demo is too big for me to download (satellite internet sucks, yadda yadda yadda, can't download over 500 or 600mb at a time, yeah)
I had a blog. It sucked.

I'd be worried about the CPU, honestly.

Is it that much of a bottleneck?

Bioshock is designed to run on Dual Core systems.

I downloaded the demo through steam and the intro sequence with the plane crash and all is really cool. It makes me want to play the game.
But the game doesn't want me to play because it crashes before loading the level. The first time I got a blue screen, the second was just to the desktop.
honestly don't know yet if I'll try a third time.
The intro thing ran pretty smooth. I'm very dissapointed that it crashed.

Sooo, the zip file I just downloaded is 1.84Gb.

The installation directory is 1.66Gb.

WTH.

Would a 512mb card make a HUGE difference?

I can get one that fits my laptop for like $250.

I have a 7900GS Go, I can get a 7900GTX go.

I just wonder if it's worth it. :/

My 256mb card (Gigabyte 7900GT) runs it just fine, on whatever the demo's default graphics settings are.
woot!

At what settings?

I wonder if this is just a Vista problem.

It runs like *** on my laptop.. :(
2007-08-21, 9:47 PM #58
Well, it *is* a laptop.

What about my laptop (which I will soon get)?:

HP Compaq 8510w Mobile Workstation
Intel Core 2 Duo Processor (2.20-GHz, 800-MHz FSB, 4-MB L2 Cache)
2GB (2048M 667DDR2 1 DM Module)
NVIDIA Quadro FX 570M graphics, 256MB dedicated memory (512 MB TurboCache

(what is the Quadro FX 570M based off of?)

Athlon 64 x2 3600+ @ 2.47Ghz, 2Gb DDR2, 7900GT. I'll check the Bioshock settings...please hold.

Edit: 1024x768, everything on high, windowed mode off, everything else on except 'force global lighting', which is off. I'm afraid to try in 1680x1050..I'll probably want to upgrade. Again. :(

I'm pretty sure it's not a constant 40+fps...it's playable, though. I don't have fraps installed.

The Quadro is a workstation/rendering card, no?

Well, according to Wikipedia, its based off of the 8600M-GT. And can do Direct X10. Bah, all these laptop card lines tend to confuse me.

I'm about seven hours in...

The opening sequence (I didn't play the demo, so I saw it for the first time) was brilliant and beautiful.

My plasmids are sick. And I got two Big Daddies to fight each other! :D (I finished off the winner for double the prizes)

I'd been saving the Little Sisters in the beginning, but now that the game's getting more hectic (I'm playing on Hard), I've lost all mercy/humanity and am becoming just as monstrous as the splicers I'm fighting. The teddy bear gifts weren't really helpful enough to warrant me saving any more Sisters from now on (I hope this doesn't bite me back later...).

The weird flashbacks on photos from my character's life in the 60's seem a little contrived since I have very little "connection" with the character himself. Hell, if I were this guy, I'd say screw Atlas and just do everything I could to get topside ASAP. ...I hope the game doesn't end after you escape, that'd be neat.

Some gameplay parts seem a bit repetitive/tired (like collect 7 of this, 7 of that, and 7 of the other thing!) but for some reason the hacking puzzle is strangely addicting.

Anyways, I can't wait to find out what happens next!

no, really. Your character will die by himself in Atlas, deep under the ocean.

Does the full game (PC) have support for AA? I just played through the demo and there was none.

Also, the subtitles were completely out of sync.. I hope they addressed this in the full game.

Other than that, t'was awesome! :awesome:
I like the way your character injects that huge needle for the first time so eagerly :P

Shouldn't you be able to force it through your video drivers?
2007-08-22, 8:40 AM #71
Hmm, didn't try that.. I assumed that if it was that simple, they'd have an option for it ingame?

I think that was one of the main reasons for Monday's driver releases. AA wasn't in the game options, so it had to be forced on in the drivers, which didn't work until the newest release. Or something like that.

Well, third time's a charm. I lowered almost all the settings as far as they'd go and it didn't crash.
I acctualy enjoyed this, killed a few splicers then it crashed, so it's uninstalled.

meh, I've got enough games already.

That was a fantastic demo. I'll totally rent this for 360, I don't have the money to buy it.
DO NOT WANT.

Ah! But that's the twist! The player actually takes so many plasmids that he becomes a sea-parasite that infects Atlas! :awesome:

I tried the demo, but it doesn't work. I have no mouse at the menus, and while the cutscene on the plane will play, after I land in the water, all the graphics keep cutting out and doing stupid stuff and I can't tell what's going on.
2007-08-22, 4:51 PM #80
And the ATI site isn't working so I can't update my drivers.
