Oh crap... that's how the security bullseye works? I didn't really read the description, I just started throwing it at cameras. :downs:

Anyway, I haven't really found fire to slow anyone down. The stun effect for the zapper is a lot better once you get the updated versions.

Plus it's hilarious to see the guido/mobster guys go "EYEYEYEYEYEYEY" when they're electrified.

If you listen to the NPCs, what they say is usually pretty creepy... "It's not too late... no, it's not too late, a man can still start a business down here." (as he wanders through a pile of corpses) "We thought we could escape from the light... we were wrong!" (coming from a disgusting bathroom covered in blood)

Yeah, I enjoy listening to the splicers. "I found her like that... I can control myself, I swear I can!" is one of my favorites.

I also must reiterate Cool Matty's link to the Bioshock soundtrack, which I'm listening to now.

I think "Cohen's Masterpiece" is my favorite track.

When I completed Cohen's masterpiece and he came down to admire his work, I got a funny feeling that things weren't all as they seemed and plugged him in the back of the head. This started a huge battle (I guess optional?) with him (he had Houdini splicer-esque powers), all set to the "Cohen's Masterpiece" theme, which was awesome.

When I killed him, he had a key on him that opened the second glass case (he had opened the first one as your reward).

To be brief, yes, it's optional. I saved right as that part started because I really REALLY wanted to whack him to see what'd happen. I chose not to take that path though.

Also, this is the first game I've ever played that truly feels like a work of art.

What I didn't understand, though, was that later, there was "Cohen's House" in Mercury Suites, and some guy who looked like Cohen was dancing with a female Houdini splicer to the "Cohen's Masterpiece" theme... I killed them also, but they were much easier. I was kind of confused.

if you don't kill cohen the first time, he warns you not to disturb them (by taking the electric buck which would make the record player fall) then the houdini splicers attack you then cohen attacks you and you kill him then

So what do you guys think is the creepiest part in the game?

For me:
1) The first time you meet that Houdini splicer wearing the mask. The atmosphere was so creepy; how you'd catch glimpses of him or his shadow around corners and such. And the way he'd call out to you ( though you didn't have to be a genius to know that it was a trap ). Then the "Hello, beautiful" part. Yikes!

2) Going to Fort Frolic and seeing those creepy "statues" covered in white everywhere. The ones that attack you also kinda freaked me out, because they don't talk or make noise like the other splicers.

More disturbing than creepy....

When you enter the theater in Fort Frolic and the guy playing the piano suddenly explodes. I was making my way up to him cautiously, trying to get around behind him for an easy kill, only paying half attention to what was being said, and then BOOM. So my attention is now caught, I'm trying to figure out what happened, so I slowly walk over to him and take a look, and that's when Cohen explained a little more and told me to take his picture. At this point I'm going, "What....?" and do a little look up towards the spot light, which was perfectly timed, because then he shouted at me "WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR! TAKE THE PICTURE! HE CAN'T HOLD THAT POSE FOREVER!" So after standing there dumbstruck for a moment more I took the picture.

I have to honestly say, that this part of the game, more than anything else so far, moved me the most. Just... how twisted, and disturbed, and psychotic it all was... It was making me paranoid, and I wanted nothing more than to get the hell out of there.

Oh man... then you really aren't going to like me...

To play it on the safe side an because I'm a paranoid sonofagenki (see the swearing thread), I perforated the kakbastahd before Cohen even started telling me what to do.

He said, "hmmm... that was quicker than I expected."

BioShock really turned me into just as much of a monster as the splicers I was fighting. What happens in Rapture stays in Rapture.... until the ending, muahahaha

Actually I think that's what's made this game so damned good. They say the morality play is mostly in how you deal with the Little Sisters, but really it's all around you. That moment right there is pretty much the perfect example. I'm not saying you're evil and I'm an angel, but it is, in a way, fascinating that though we'd both played through the same scenario to the same event, we handled it drastically different based upon what we'd seen and had to do so far in the story, and what we felt was the right course of action in response to what we saw this time.

Creepist part by far, was the whole medical wing.

The auto diaries of Steinman and McClintock are just creepy as hell. When he keeps going on about perfection, and you finally come upon him doing the work on the body, just so creepy.

The whole medical wing brought me into the game so well, it was the perfect beginning for me

Another great example of that is how so many people played through the game not even realizing that you don't have to kill Cohen in Fort Frolic, because they opened fire as soon as they saw him .

Oh I totally killed him after I knew it was him, mostly because he was a sadistic man, and... I really wanted that special prize in the second glass case, so I figured it was okay to kill a human being, twisted though he may be. :ninja: Basically I got really greedy in this game. Yes, it does do a great job of turning people into monsters, its brilliant.

I kind of feel the same way. The ending was cheesy; the boss battle laughable. I wanted something at least as shocking as the main plot twist to round off the game. Like, to find that your transformation into a big daddy was irreversible. Something regarding Tenenbaum would have been great - to find out that she's actually evil, or that she's a slave herself - something. One transmission from Fontaine in particular aroused my suspicions; the one where he tries to convince you not to trust her by pointing out that she had survived through WW2 and all sorts without a scratch.

The ending could have been so much more dramatic and memorable.

Or could have tried to do something than the cliche Oh, yeah, your objective isn't here...you have to run all the way back here....oh wait! Fooled you, the super awesome serum that'll save your life is all the way over here....oh damn! It was only half of it! You gotta go all the way back here to get the rest, sorry about that, maybe we should have told you that before huh? thing.

Some of that was tedious, I agree, though it was no big deal for me at least. I can generally forgive developers for having ideas like that.

Also: Track 6 in that soundtrack (Step Into My Gardens) is so damn perfect for that part of the game.

"Papa Suchong! Go away... Papa Suchong! Papa Suchong!"

Not getting to meet your creator was a drag, but his demise was hilarious understated and quite appropriate.

"Then NO ONE mess with the Big Daddy"

also...

Fontaine's observation that she survived WW2 without a scratch and had worked for the Nazis got me a little concerned, too, but they didn't go anywhere with it. I think it would have been interesting if, after killing Fontaine, you realized that Tenenbaum was manipulating you also, not through any psychological programming, but by using your morality/sense of vengeance for to complete her objectives. Or maybe, now that she had "rescued" the Little Sisters, the Big Daddies wouldn't help them out anymore, and they were all exterminated in short order by splicers. The return to purity was also a return to weakness/vulnerability.

Then again, the design team only has so much time/resources, and they wanted to have a traditional endboss/conclusion.

Ah, and one last tiny little thing - my friend and I were incredibly disappointed to find out how inconsequential your decision is when you choose to harvest or rescue the little sisters. What does it even change? Tenenbaum still helps you even if you kill every sister you find. The boss battle still ends exactly the same way. You end up with basically exactly the same plasmids and ADAM. Sigh.

Phoenix am cry. :(

My 360 just kicked the bucket. I'm only half way through the game!

This is like.... the ****ing worst case of irony ever too. I took it to class with me Wednesday so I could kill 2 and a half hours between classes playing Bioshock on the projector. Thursday I have class all freaking day, so I was exhausted and didn't set my 360 back up. Today I figure, "Hey, no class, no work, I'll play Bioshock all day!".

Here's the irony. I'm going to visit my girlfriend at school two weeks from now. I was planning on taking my 360 so she could check out Bioshock, and Eternal Sonata. And while I'm setting up my 360, I'm thinking to myself, "Man, wouldn't it be horrible if it died while I was there..." My friends 360s have all died in the order of purchase, I knew I was next. Anyway... I boot up the 360, start Bioshock, play for about 10 minutes, then it freezes after I harvest a Little Sister. blargh. It's done that before awhile back, think I posted about it. Reboot, start again. It freezes sooner this time. I'm now praying this is just some gargantuan coincidence. Start up again, this time it's frozen before the 360 logo is even done spinning at startup. ****. I let it sit for a minute, then start again. And there it is.... red rings of death. Three times in a row. I'm filled with dread and know it's gone but kept restarting anyway.

****ing Irony. I ****ing hate you. :suicide:

So she won't see Bioshock. Or Eternal Sonata.

At least it didn't die while I was there.
At least it died now and not sometime in September before Halo 3.

****.... I better have it BACK by the time Halo 3 launches....

So now I'm down a 360, and will have to wait a month to finish Bioshock. By which time my immersion will be gone, and I'll likely have forgotten where I am, and the finer details of what I was doing. :suicide:

The 360 has had a history of hardware failure since launch. More than likely, hopefully, this'll be a thing of the past in the next few months once they roll out a hardware revision with the newer cooler chipset.

I have no idea what caused mine to go belly up. I've heard so many different explanations for what causes it now...

But with a 3 year warranty, and them repairing and shipping back and forth completely free, and even throwing in a free month of Live Gold... I'm annoyed, and saddened, but far from furious and pissed off at them. It should've never happened. Yes. But they could be handling it far worse.

I kind of fear my 360 is gonna die every time I turn it on, and in this season of halo 3 and eternal sonata, it'd be a real loss.

I certainly wouldn't recommend it, but I've heard about a few people who feared the same thing would happen, and essentially decided to murder their 360 by wrapping it in a towel or something and just leaving it on. All that just so they could have it repaired and know it'd work when those games came out.

The reasoning I've heard is exactly what he said, it re-seats the chips. Red Ring of Death is the universal hardware failure code. People have been guessing that substandard solder is used to hold the chips in place, and that after awhile of being turned on an off, heating and cooling, expansion and contraction takes it's toll, and cracks form in the solder, making the connections for chips flaky.

Baking the Xbox heats that solder up to the point where it's supposed to soften up and bridge that crack (like he said, a temporary solution) after it hardens again.

I'll admit the thought crossed my mind to try it, and I still might, but for right now, I'd like to just as soon try and avoid the possibility of dicking things up further. If I go through with this though, I'll definitely post the results.

damn, i just finished the game after having saved all the sisters. kind of a cheesy, anti-climactic ending. i was bracing for another plot twist. it was a real treat to be able to play this on 1680x1050 with the highest settings without any hiccups. the EAX seems to be messed up tho (had to play without it), and the subtitles were out of sync with the audio for me.
