Gamespot gave it a 9 out of 10 score (there's a video review too, ofc): http://www.gamespot.com/xbox360/action/bioshock/review.html?om_act=convert&om_clk=gssummary&tag=summary;review

Funny thing is that some 360 owners are reacting over that score. It's just like the reaction of that 8.8 Twilight Princess score...

Has anyone heard anything about making this game NOT run like ***?
2007-08-22, 8:41 PM #86
I haven't heard anyone having issues of it running like crap in the first place :p

I can't believe I just finished the game. I literally could not stop playing this.

BS.

I've been pissing and moaning about it since the demo came out. :P

I like how the little sisters react to you differently when you get to Tennenbaum's orphanage depending on if you harvest or save them. I come into the room, some of them start running away, others start calling me the evil man, etc.

It was a small little touch that really showed how much detail is in this game

Yeah I can't play it.

:(

I will say though, the first 10 minutes or so of the game were and ran AMAZING.

Like when you come up from below the water.. it took me a while to realize that was the game and not something pre-rendered. I was really wowed.
2007-08-23, 3:06 AM #93
I found a tweak that part-way fixed the problem.

I'm going to buy this graphics card and then I'm going to get an sound card that uses the expresscard slot, and hopefully that will solve all the assery that I'm tired of dealing with.
2007-08-23, 3:15 AM #94
meh it does work on mine but despite a massive case fan, exhaust pipe and the obligatory cpu, graphics card and PSU fans it still overheats.

2 fans coming tommorow should sort it....

At one point my x1900 had to reset to avoid getting buggered.
2007-08-23, 4:39 AM #95
Wow, I pretty much fixed my problems.

Turns out they were mostly related to the onboard sound. Vista was trying to use whatever it does for hardware accelertion, like trying to run it at liek 245346226 jigghertz or something.

I set it down to like CD quality and it all seems to work now. I already bid on that card, so if I win it I'll just consider it an added bonus if I win. *shrug*

The game is VERY playable now, and hopefuly more so with the better card.

Yeah, I beat the game last night, too. I could not stop. It was amazing. The plot twists were genuinely shocking and made a good commentary on the relationship of a player to a game.

I just finished, as well.

Would you kindly make me a sequel ASAP?

The evil ending was enjoyable, I'm gonna play through again and get the good one.

The Atlas/Fontaine fight was awesome, it reminded me of the fight with SHODAN in SS2.

Actually, the entire story reminded me of SS2. The parasites, the point where Atlas turns on you, the point where you kill Ryan reminds me of the big twist in the middle of SS2. I mean, it wasn't a direct rip, but it seems like there was a lot of nods to SS2.

The "would you kindly" thing blew my mind. I've kind of prided myself on seeing plot twists and devices in games like this, but that one caught me completely off guard, even up to the "Would you kindly" in blood on the wall before Ryan's office, I was in the dark. An amazing job by the devs with that one

The voice actor for Atlas deserves all kinds of credit on the "would you kindly" thing. He sounded so naturally that I didn't even realize until the big revelation that he'd been saying it constantly: "Would you kindly find a crowbar or something? Would you kindly lower that weapon?" Even when I saw it in blood on the wall, the only connection I made was with Suchong saying it in the nearby recording.

Hey, let's not spoil it for everybody else... oh... the Massassi Corporate style displays all spoiler text by default. o_O

I'm really impressed, though, that any linearity in the game up to that point (since otherwise, you'd just be trying to escape by yourself) is completely explained by the manipulation device. Whenever there's a part of the game where you don't seem to have a "choice"... you don't. :neckbeard:

Andrew Ryan was very Citizen Kane, in a good way.

It was interesting how throughout the game, the PA system would ask his simple question:

Are you a MAN or are you a SLAVE?

Amazing.

Also... did anybody think that Mercury Apartments or whatever looked like the apartments in Blade Runner? I was *really* getting a Blade Runner feel there. Especially since I could go invisible and watch all the action. :ninja:

Yeah, but there's one thing that I'm still wondering about. Why is it that you get a choice as to whether or not you save that first little sister? Obviously Atlas/Fontaine would want you to to be as strong as possible so that you can succeed in killing Ryan, so why not just ask, "Would you kindly harvest that Little Sister and take her Adam?" Is he worried about tipping his hand and having Tenenbaum figure out what's going on?

That seems to make sense. Also, if Ryan can seal off certain rooms and flood them with gas (like he did to kill the botanist), why doesn't he do that to you? Or maybe he's figured out by then that you're his son?

All I can come up with is the possibility that he wants to know who and what you are more than he wants you dead, and killing you with gas wouldn't tell him anything about you.

Anyone else think the combat in this game blows? It's just so damn clunky not being able to use plasmids while weapons are equipped. And some of the plasmids are so dysfunctional that the battles really don't seem to go as smooth as I planned. All the enemies jerk around like crazy but you have to be so precise when using telekinesis or grenades. The retarded mouse acceleration doesn't help in the hairy firefights. When fighting a lot of the enemies its usually very hard to avoid taking damage and in long battles it feels like I'm chugging potions like in diablo. And those ****ing hacking puzzles are getting really tedious and annoying. waaargh!

Love the atmosphere though. Rapture is just so damn alive. The Fallout-ish shorts that introduce the plasmids are a very nice touch. Overall the game is very polished. It's an fps that I will actually finish because I'm hooked on the story and character and the RPG elements are very well done. I don't think it's as good of a sp fps experience as Deus Ex so far, but it's probably a bit early for that comparison. Not game of the year for me, that's for sure.

Hmm... I liked the combat, but could have done with some blocking capabilities for the wrench (a la Condemned) and melee options for the guns when you're out of ammo.

I didn't think that aiming was a problem (except when I would telekinetically pick up debris instead of bombs leveled at me), but then again I was playing on the 360, which has less precision than the computer. You may want to turn on the "console-like" autoaim, CP.

This will not be a problem for much longer. Once you get the camera, take lots of pictures of turrets and security bots (you can take multiple pictures of any you come across) and once you max out your research you'll be able to hack them by just pressing "X" after zapping them with Electro Bolt. Also, later in the game money becomes pretty plentiful (to buy out a lot of hacks) and you'll be able to make plenty of automatic hack tools at U-Invents. Also, the animation after you snap a picture (of your research bar filling) is pretty tedious, but you can skip it always without consequence (your research bar still fills even if you don't wait for the animation).

Downloaded the PC demo for the hell of it, even though I already had it for 360. Loaded it up, selected difficulty, map was about to load, and both my monitors just turned off. I VNC'd in to my PC and it was still running, so I rebooted and they came back on. Really weird.

Downloaded the latest beta drivers and everything runs great (7950 GT, A64 3500, 1 GB DDR400) at default settings. At 1680x1050, however, things get pretty slow. Oh well, it's nice to know I can run the latest game well at a decent resolution.

Same here. I think it's perfect on the 360 and haven't had any problems. Hacking is just awesome. For the most part I have it down to a science now. The only thing that has me slightly irritated right now, is that my 360 froze up last night right as I harvested one of the Little Sisters. I lost at least an hour of progress in Arcadia.

Glad to hear it. I already had my fill of EGA Pipe Dream and clones back in the early 90s.

sigh. got my 2 fans .

I've found the 120 mount for the front but the bloody screws wont fit and I'm guessing you need to screw them through the metal into the fans plastic...

And it turns out to use the 80 mm fan I need to refit my annoyingly fiddly exhasust pipe AND its Fan.

So yeah, I'm pretty sure we can all agree that Bioshock is one hell of a spiritual successor to System Shock 2. It pratically oozes SS2, from the twists, to the way Adam and Plasmids work (Being able to upgrade your skills/psy powers)

So, in your guys' opinions, which is the better of the two? System Shock 2 or Bioshock?
