The Orange Box.

Are you hyped for it? CAUSE I AM!
(I just pre-ordered the thing, first time ever.)

I'm excited, but won't be getting it right away. Low on cash, so Halo 3 will have to occupy my gaming time for a while.

I am stoked for the Orange Box. I'm mostly looking forward to Portal. But I've never played Episode 1 before, so Ep. 1 and 2 will be pretty neat. And of course, who can forget TF2?

If you need a quick portal fix before Portal comes out, google for "Narbacular Drop." It's basically the same thing as portal.

Well, hopefully they will sell each game individually in Steam.

I debated about just buying Team Fortress 2 seperately, but since its such a good deal I'll probably order the whole package.

They pretty much have to for all the folk who already have HL2 & EP1.

In all reality this is the deal of the freaking century. TF2 and Episode 2 would probable be over 50$ alone, and then you throw portal and all the old stuff* in too? Count me in!

(*You can give the old stuff away as a gift if you have it already)

If I got I would get it over steam so I really couldn't do that.

But that is a very good point for buying the boxed version.

Except buying them seperately is more expensive than just buying the whole set + hl2 and ep1.

I'm stoked for Portal.

yea i have Hl2 already but this is such a good price for the amount of content hell id been happy paying $45 bucks just for Tf2

now i got TF2 / portal / Hl2:Ep2 / Peggle Extreme

and an Extra Key for HL2 for a friend :)

Actually, you can. You can just send your friend a code and it will be added to their steam account. Otherwise I don't think you could, even with the retail version.

Really, even though you get HL2 and EP1 with it, the package is still worth at that price even with out those two games. Valve had to include them because this is a major release and it would be a huge disaster if everyone bought what they thought was a new game only to find out that it's two steps down the story line and that they had to separately buy the last two installments of the series to make any sense of it. Orange is not just being marketed to people who already have HL2, but it seeks to expand the series user base as well. It couldn't do that with out HL2 and Ep1 in there. Think of them as freebies for people new to the franchise.

Well said.

I'm looking forward to Ep2 and Portal most of all, but after playing TF2 I'm stoked about that too.

For those of you who pre-ordered it and also have HL2 and Ep 1, are you able to give away your extra copies? I don't see any way to yet, but maybe they're just waiting until the 10th.

TF2 is worth the $50 alone. It's that good.

Not really, since it's only like $50 which is easily the worth of those three games anyway.

It makes more sense if you consider HL2 and HL2EP1 freebies.

2007-10-05, 10:40 PM #22
Really its just good marketing, Free Hl2+ep1 gifts= more people wanting episode 2...
2007-10-06, 12:31 AM #23
Yeah, they canceled the black box which was supposed to be just TF2, Portal, and EP2. Still, the Orange Box is a much better value than buying each one separately, even if you already have HL2 and EP1. Just gift them to a friend that will appreciate it. By the way, TF2 is worth $50 alone. I'm getting a new vid card pretty much just to take full advantage of TF2 prettiness.

If all I have is HL2, is the best deal Orange Box, despite getting HL2 all over again?

I'm really looking forward to playing episode 1 and 2, and Portal.
2007-10-07, 12:37 PM #26
Yes, Very very much yes.

If you prefer mouse and keyboard along with paying $38 (Circuit City special this week) instead of 60 then go for the PC version instead.

I have never played a Half Life game in my life and I was timid of purchasing the first because I didn't think it could run. However, this system requirements site says I can (for some reason it says I have a 2.24 ghz processing speed even though mine is only a Intel(R) Pentium(R) M processor 1.50GHz). So now I'm going to get the whole experience. I won't be too lost with the plot since I haven't played Half Life 1 will I?
2007-10-07, 4:18 PM #31
Well, you won't know how everything started. Other than that you should be okay. You can play Black Mesa (when it comes out) in order to get the backstory.

Has anyone here played HL2 on the 360 before? How are the controls? How does it look compared to PC?

You ****ing have to play HL1.. I picked up the anthology at wal mart(Hl1 Blue Shift and opposing force) for ten bucks. 3 of the best games ever.

Back story? HL1 and HL2 have about as much in common with eachother as Micheal and Janet Jackson do. You won't miss a thing.

For the most part, but there's a lot of references to events and places in HL1 that you won't understand while playing Half-Life 2.

Me, I'm just running through Episode 1 right now because I just bought the organge box. It's pretty awesome so far..

you know what i hate about steam?

the fact that when you download from the site it still has to update when it starts up. why not have the full updated version on the site, so you can just install and get started rather than waiting forever for updates?

Well I JUST discovered Portal this morning on one of my news RSSs and I think it looks fantastic. This Orange Box will be perfect for me (I've never played HL2, and ok, so I have to use my 360's pad rather than my preffered keybie-mouse combo but what the hell...).

I'll just have to wait until my next payday... at least I've finally got BioShock and Halo 3 to tide me over....

You JUST discovered Portal? :gonk:

You probably don't even know about this then.

They do update the installer, they just don't do it for every single little update they put out.
