Are you serious? How can you think portal could be anywhere near bad?

I don't think its bad, but I like to test things before I buy. I guess I'm just a cautious buyer.

Yeah, I went through the game again with commentary, and they explained how to do it. It was pretty easy after that. First time through, I was doing it wrong by using guns.

Portal is literally one of the greatest gaming masterpieces released in the last 10 years. You have to play it, even if you wont like it. It's just something you must try, and will more than likely enjoy.

I wouldn't go that far.

They won't make a demo of the game, it's too short!

Seriously guys, it's awesome. Even if you're not a puzzle fan.
2007-10-17, 2:33 PM #248
It's awesome if you aren't a puzzle fan only because there really aren't any puzzles in the main game. :/

I agree here. I wish there were more cautious buyers to make more developers put out more demos.

That being said, They really could (and probably should) put out a demo of portal with just one chamber. But I really doubt they will.

However, considering that EP2 is ~$30 and the OB is ~$50, it's hard to say no to getting Portal AND TF2 (and peggle) for just $20 more.

YAY! Mine despatched today!

Delivery estimate is the 22nd though. Stupid postal strike back-log.
2007-10-18, 1:43 AM #256
Haha, I have over 30 hours logged in TF2 already.. somebody make me stop!

BTW.. it is far far better than I originally thought. It's sucking me in...

My preference these days is demoman, medic, and soldier. The class I am most annoyed by at the moment: pyro. If they charge toward you you're just dead. unless you get a lucky shot.. and even then, you're still dead unless you can find a medipack.

A SG is good against pyros because they really don't have any long range capabilities. And no nades.

I just played through to the end of Portal after picking the game up today. No 2 hour run for me though. 7pm to 1am from start to finish. Extremely fun the whole way.

WOOHOO!

It arrived yesterday - a day before the official UK release! I played from 7pm till about 8:45pm and I'm up to level 18. I'm struggling to do the 'drop down big hole, pop out of low platform but go really high, shoot new exit in even higher place, repeat five times whilst going round a corner' type thing. So I gave up an ate and resolved to finish it off tomorrow.

So.

Much.

Fun.

(I love the turret voices and the Weighted Companion Cube!)

Holy ****, I just got out of a game where I got 42 points in a single life, including 23 kills and 12 headshots (with the sniper; my previously most-hated class). Now it's my favorite by far. :) I can't get even close to that kind of a score with the other classes. See for yourself.

Nice. Most I've gotten (points-wise) is 16 as a Medic. What map were you playing on that went on for that long?

On the other hand, I finally got all the achievements in EP2. The gnome was pretty annoying, but not as bad as some people have said. There's a trick to wedging him in under the roof of the car in the back. You can do some pretty robust maneuvering with him in there, but a lot of turning, or hitting something will dislodge him. Also, I wasn't able to get him wedged in before the helicopter came, and there's no way to do it once the helicopter is shooting at you, so I ended up having to toss him with the gravity gun and drive to him. That happened to me too and after I changed the audio settings it ran much better.

Bah, that just means the other team had terrible Spies. Stupid Snipers. :argh:

I'm gonna play some TF2 now, haven't played since the beta.

2007-10-19, 11:22 AM #267
Not a lot of people are playing TF2 compared to other games like CSS. I can hardly find a good 80 ping server living out in the middle of nowhere (Norcal.) It's a fun game, probably it'll get big enough once most Valve gamers will get it for Christmas

Portal is brilliant.

Does anyone see a huge mega community of level makers for that game?

I just matched my point record in a round (former was had by engineer) as a heavy, and I have a newfound respect for the class. If you have a decent enough medic, a heavy is impossible to take down. We swamped a server for a good hour today as 4 heavies and 4 medics. The rest of our team kept up our bases. It was insane. We had ubers every 2 minutes, and spaced them out so there was always an uber, and this allowed us to move in on any flags we wanted to take. Amazing experience.

One little backstab and I've pwned your stupid heavy. :colbert:

At close range Pyros absolutely destroy heavys. I've taken down heavys that had 2 medics on them before. All you have to do is get stupid-close and run circles around him.

Just bought a 360 yesterday, despite the arm my wallet lost for saving up for my trip to Finland.

I was stuck on level 18 for 20 minutes, other than that, I beat it pretty quick and it was pretty fun.

Guys, I just figured out TF2 gives you points for going through your own teleporters. Even if the exit is only inches away! Don't believe me? See for yourself. I got 49 points in a single life as an engineer in a stalemated game of 2Fort last night. :)

(2 times through the teleporter gives you 1 point.)

Congrats on arbitrarily increasing your stats for no reason whatsoever?

Yes, that's called stat padding, and isn't really anything to be proud of.

No, Infact it's retarded.

I switched teams just to backstab an engy that was doing that.
:awesome:
2007-10-21, 5:05 PM #276
Yeah I think that was reported as a bug in the beta... but it's not really a bug, just an instance where players can be cheap. One of many.

Two engineers did that on tc_hydro and people just made fun of them "Wow that's the most useful teleporter ever, moves me 2 feet to the right".

I saw a guy doing it right outside the spawn on 2Fort about a week ago. Didn't know you could get points out of it though.

This was awesome.

I managed to get behind enemy lines on a CP map and set up a tele. 2 more engys poured through and fortified while we got a heavy into there spawn.

Cp1 had no reinforcements sp we took CP 1 and the second fell quickly cause of no sentrys.

It was awesome.

I've done it in 2fort sometimes - puts a little something between a heavy and my turret, giving me a better chance to kill an ubercharged heavy before he kills me.

It's awesome to go to C and set up 3 portals in the top right away without being detected, then setting up 3 turrets in front of spawn so it kills them on either side, then taking everything. A quick and organized team of engineers can do it with minimal help from a pyro or soldier.
