I wouldn't worry about that too much, Rob. I imagine Portal is going to have a pretty big mod community. There's going to be plenty of challenging levels for Portal in no time.

Mostly frustrating, because you're trying to time things just right or trying to shoot a box through a portal at a distance. Though I haven't done all of them, so the later ones might be more of brain-teasers.

I just finished portal:

The ending was a blast, but I thought the game in a whole was way too easy. I haven't played the bonus stages, but I really hope they're full of brain flirbs, or else I'll be disappointed. The addition of achievements is very cool, though.

I just finished the Portal campaign. Very fun, though a bit easy at times. The ending, as others have said, is awesome! Do yall know how to extract music files if you have the game installed?

Does anyone know what "getting a gold medal" on the portal challenges means, from the achievements menu? Does it just mean doing them really fast?

BTW, I just beat it. My god I have never ever laughed so hard in my life. The credits were the most fantastic thing I have ever seen. And the "curious" node thingie from the boss (you know what I'm talking about) almost had me rolling on the ground. My god, it was just too funny.

I am gonna take another spin through portal right away with the commentary on, then I'm gonna tackle some of the challenges and bonus maps.

Haha, this is cool. I'm discovering new stuff on my second time through portal. For example, the first time, I didn't bring a turret with me through the field at the end of the level and consequently didn't get to hear what it says.

edit: hah, did anyone catch the "red phone" system from the commentary? Heehee

edit x 2: Holy crap. I was plugging away quite nicely at the advanced bonus levels, then I got to 16. ARRRRRGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHH. It's not some brain-bending puzzle, it's just... like pulling your hair out. And I still can't beat it.

I hope they add bots for TF2 like they originally were going to from what I understand.
2007-10-10, 9:53 PM #130
Episode 2 was... wow...

The battle with the striders was too easy however. And the new shadow system outright sucks. It looks like the shadows eminate from the object, instead of being on whats behind it. Gotta see it too really hate it.

Anyway... Eli is dead and the Gman started everything. Also- Unforeseen conseqences is the name of the first HL1 chapter, and of cource getting your head sucked out is pretty unforeseen...

The chat about the microwave in HL1 was awesome.

I only think they should add bots if they can pull it off EXTREMELY well. Im sick of ****ty bf1942 esque bits that can't shoot straight and would rather stare at a wall then rush a flag.

I loved portal! I thought the game was going to be really short cause I got through almost all 19 stages pretty fast, but then the ending did that thing and added another hour or so to the game!

freaking awesome, and listening to the AI talk to you as you work your way through the maps was freaking funny as hell, my fav part is.

"remember when you were riding into the pit of fire and I said I was going to murder you, and you say (deep voice impersonation) NO WAY! wasn't that fun!"

the AI was funny, but what the hell was all that cake stuff about?

Also, I just started playing E2, and I'm creeped out by it, I HATE those acid antlions, that are creepy, hard to kill and have a powerful attack... And I HATE bugs, so the tunnels part was really damn scary for me, lol, seriously, shivers. I onyl got to the part where you encounter the Antlion Guardian before I died and quit for the night.

Yeah, that was a good line, but it doesn't compare to Mr.-curious-node-guy-thingie. That guy cracked me up so much..

What's that thing?
Ooh, that thing has a number on it!

I just want to say I hate Steam... it claims I need minimum directx 8.0 when I have 9.0c. ARGH! I'm trying to see if I can remedy this...

Freakin' hell! I re-updated directx and my videocard drivers for the hell of it, uninstalled and reinstalled Portal and Episode 2 (as they were the ones I installed and were giving the "minimum 8.0" crap), and it still gives the error! Help anyone? :(

Try looking there. I think there's something on there about forcing a directx level.

Beat it. I hat to use some very unorthodox tricks, but I don't think there is any other way. It did result in a very spectacular double-fling. :)

Yeah, I just beat it, as well. I was trying to take out the turrets in the box room, which was a mistake, I did the double fling and it worked for me.

Also, it was awesome.

I liked the curious orb when it said "Hey, what happened to your legs?!"

(If you don't know what it's talking about, look at your legs in a portal)
2007-10-11, 9:56 AM #149
Yep. Once again, that was the curiosity node. That's the best node.

But the "cake" node was funny too.

Oh, I wanted to ask: has anyone managed a triple fling with one wall and one floor yet?

I beat number 18 as well. I didn't use the double fling in the turret room though. I wasn't fast enough when I got in, so I had to take out the turrets. It's possible, but kind of a pain. The turret closest to you is the hardest to get.

In the big room towards the end, with all the turrets, I've managed to keep flinging myself forward when trying to go for the long jump achievement. Unfortunately, I had commentary on at the time, and the game doesn't record any achievements if you have commentary on (I tried to get the camera achievement too, and I wasn't making any progress).

Arghhh.... I just ran through the game again with the sole purpose of getting the camera shy achievement. I got to the end and there were two camers I didn't find! If you don't get them all by the time you beat the game it resets cameras found to zero. :(

Anyone else find the login information in that one hidden room in Portal? And are there other login/password sets I missed?

Anyway, using this information, you can log on at the old viral marketing site and find a timeline of Aperture Science's history in the directory.
