How do you kill a hunter with it's own flechettes?

I can't pick up the things they shoot that explode.
2007-10-12, 8:47 PM #202
well they like shooting those sticky bomb things, maybe if you're fast enough you can throw it before everything explodes

I tried picking those up, you can't as far as I can tell. :/

I tried letting them hit something I was holding, and throwing that at them.. but they always just kill me in the face.
2007-10-12, 8:53 PM #204
i suppose if you were quick enough you might be able to grab one of those flechettes with the gravity gun. i guess i never tried.

Thats what I've been trying. :( I haven't been able to pick one up, even standing right on them.

Does anyone know how to make Steam store games on other partitions? The partition Steam is installed on is full so I can't install Episode 2. :(

I haven't been able to do it either (the flechette thing), but I think you need to let them hit a log or something you're carrying with the gravity gun, then launch it back at them. It's a tough accomplishment.

I got the payback thing by using a box as cover. I guess they all deflected off or something.
Oh i see what i did now, they all stuck to the box and exploded when i through it back.

yeah and did you catch his appearence on the monitor just before alyx 'delivered her message'.. that creeped me out.. seemed a lot different than his other random appearences.. almost as if his presence caused or took control of alyx to cause her to deliver that message to eli

Yep, got it in 3 portals (from the steampowered forums).

The first two portals are in the very first room to get the box down. After you do that, shoot the same color portal as on the top floor onto the "1" block above the button. That is your last portal. Set the box onto the first button, then jump to the door platform. Then jump to the emitter for the moving platform (you'll need to crouch jump and land on the gray disk, took me a couple of tries to get it). From there, pick up the box, then jump back and put the box on the button, and exit the stage. There's a rumor going around the steampowered forums of being able to do it in 2, but I think that's just overkill. No need to do it in less than the minimum required.

Huh?! That doesn't work at all. The second box is waaaaaaay too far away to grab from the gray disk.

I forgot to mention 1 thing (I've been drinking, I'm sorry)

You need to use the first box to deflect the energy orb into the receptacle. It's a long and arduous process, but it is possible. Took me several reloads and about a half hour of trying. After you do that, then you can make the jump to the moving platform.

There has been another solution in which you can grab the box without using any portals at all, but I haven't been able to do it. You're supposed to strafe-jump from the button in the first room to grab the box, but I can't seem to be able to do it.

Just beat the advanced levels. 16 was the hardest for me. Once I got past 16 it was smooth sailing. 17 was pitifully easy and 18 was pretty easy (imo).

Knocking all the turrets over was really easy and all you have to do is a double fling by shooting both portals onto the same surface to get the box. Did it my first try. ;)

Has anyone completed any of the challenges? I did the advanced levels a while ago, 17 was a pain in the ***. I've 1st place on half of the fewest portal challenges, and maybe 2 or 3 for 1st place in least time.

To kill a hunter with their own flechettes just throw lots of barrels at them. If you time it right you'll have the projectiles exploding right about the time of impact. If it works they'll do the levitation/disintegrating thing.

The whole ending part of Ep.2 was sweet with all of the Striders and then the rocket launch. It really sucks that Eli gets killed though. :(

Why does everyone have trouble with 17 advanced? I look back on it and there's nothing in it that gave me any trouble

I have to say, Portal was like, the perfect gaming experience in my mind. I've been at home the past few days for Fall Break, and so I had some time to kill, which meant playing and beating Portal. So, I was able to beat it in a about 5-7 hours if Memory serves, it was hilarious, and the concept of course is brilliant. While plenty can be said for games like Final Fantasy that take hours and hours to beat, there is something just right about a game like Portal.

Just started the beginning of Half Life 2 and I must say I'm very impressed. First of all it has been like two years since I actually played a FPS. I really like how cutscenes are done in real time and you can move around during them. Also cool is how you can manipulate objects in the environment. I'm still wondering why my laptop is able to run Half Life 2 (same resolution of 1280 x 800) more smoothly than Guild Wars Eye of the North though....
2007-10-16, 5:17 PM #225
Oh, wait until you manipulate objects later in the game.

Actually I think it's probably one of the easiest ways to kill them.

In Ep2, do you really have to carry that Gnome around for the entire game and then stick him in the rocket in order to get that accomplishment?

Yup. Or spawn it at the end and put it in the rocket.

I'm not really that worried about them either, but missing just 6 grubs out of 333 was rather annoying.

You only have to get the transmitter (attached to a box) to come down to get credit for it.

I'm waiting for Valve to sell Episode 2 a la carte (which they probably will do eventually) since I already have Hl2 and Ep 1.

I shouldn't have to buy everything again (only to give some of it away to other people in my friends list) just to get Ep 2.
2007-10-17, 2:04 PM #238
Orange box is worth it for TF2, Portal, and Episode 2.

Quit whining.
2007-10-17, 2:05 PM #239
You don't. You buy the orange box for Portal and TF2.

You can already get EP2 by itself on Steam, although you'd be looney to skip out on the Orange Box, even if it already has HL2 and EP1. It's still a far better deal than buying them separately.

And don't tell me you don't want Portal or TF2. That's crazy talk.

Good point.

(although Ep2 wasn't available as a stand-alone the last time I checked.)

Portal looks interesting, but I hope they put a demo or something out soon so I can try it first.
