MLP 2009: Ultimate Sith Edition - NEW DEADLINE Jan. 2nd 2010
2009-09-24, 3:53 PM #1
The rules:

A. No limitation on type of map or game, as long as it is the JK series (JK, MOTS, JO, JA. Not DF).
B. Maps will be judged on their attention to detail and gameplay, that is, effort. A JK level need not look better than a JA map, merely it must be a great JK map.
C. Previously created material is allowed, as long as it is not already released and published on Massassi in some fashion. In other words, don't take a level you made before and just spruce it up.
D. All submissions will be due on January 2nd, 2010 at 11:59PM EST in my inbox: mlp2009@sorrowind.net
E. Submissions must meet the usual submission rules of Massassi.
F. Judging will be done by a group of three people selected by me. I will not be judging.
G. You may submit multiple entries, but only one will win.

Potential Judges:

The 3 judging positions are open to anyone who wants them, assuming they meet the following requirements:

A. Cannot be participating in the contest, in any form. Do not contribute to others' projects.
B. Must own Jedi Knight, Jedi Outcast, and Jedi Academy.
C. Judges must apply to me via this thread with their intent to judge. I will select the best candidate.
D. Best candidates are ones who are well known in the community, are at least somewhat honest , and hopefully have released some maps of their own in the past.
E. Judges have until Sunday night, September 27th, 11:59PM EST to submit their applications here.

Applications should include who you are, why you're a good pick for the job, things you've done in the past, and if you really want to get on my good side, a new post on the Neverending Story. :v:

How fun! If only I could remember how to edit... and had time.

I opened up Zed, discovered that "c" was the cleave tool. Everything a budding editor needs! Count me in.

Three days to make a level?
Code to the left of him, code to the right of him, code in front of him compil'd and thundered. Programm'd at with shot and $SHELL. Boldly he typed and well. Into the jaws of C. Into the mouth of PERL. Debug'd the 0x258.
2009-09-24, 6:57 PM #6
Sure, if you want. Otherwise you can take three months like everyone else.

2009-09-24, 7:04 PM #7
i have all three games and i'm too lazy to make anything decent so i'll put my name in for potential judge

you know who i am
i am a good pick because i don't play favorites and i don't take bribes* and i have a good eye for good level design
i've released a few levels... i'll admit they aren't impressive... all my best work was never completed

*if you want to attempt bribery i'll gladly accept your money but don't expect it to help your chances of winning

The 27th is the deadline for judge applications, not for submissions of levels.

I'm applying. This should give me a reason to get JK1 out the door, especially if I have till december. :awesome:
DO NOT WANT.

Ok so I misread!
Code to the left of him, code to the right of him, code in front of him compil'd and thundered. Programm'd at with shot and $SHELL. Boldly he typed and well. Into the jaws of C. Into the mouth of PERL. Debug'd the 0x258.

You had to go make it all uptight by having judges and 'winners', didn't you?
2009-09-24, 11:20 PM #12
Well as we all know, CM hates fun. Besides, you all should have figured that he doesn't really want judges after he prefaced ways to be a judge with posting on the NeS. I mean, that's going to leave us with nobody!

Oh yeah, don't think that'll get you out of your posts either, CM!

(Hope this level pack goes well.)

I'm in if I can think of a good SP/MP level for JK.....
2009-09-25, 11:28 AM #15
Aim for something small, it doesn't have to be incredible. Just good.

I remember seeing in that old Darkness Falls online mag about a SP level that had your teammates with you throughout a lot of the level. Did that ever happen? Are there cogs online now for that type of thing?

Assuming it gets off the ground....

I would like to be judge! I've not released any maps, however I am responsible for many of them being on this website :). I've probably played every single one of them at some point just to make sure they worked, haha. I've stricken down trolls! Cleared full level inboxes in minutes! Banned those who deserved to be banned!

I'm not thinking co-op, more like computer AI team-mates.

uh, Mots has AI rebel soldiers

2009-09-25, 12:35 PM #21
True, maybe I'll use Mots... unless I can take the cogs and use them in JK
2009-09-25, 2:39 PM #22
I would love to judge something like this, but I don't exactly have full community support around here, So I guess I'm a joke option.

taking cogs (or any other content) from mots and using them in JK is against the EULA

As if anyone would give a ****, half the content on Massassi violates the EULA and US copyright law.

Not to mention that Zell is probably going to enter JK1 and crush us all. :carl:
2009-09-25, 5:12 PM #26
Maybe I should take a stab at this.

Of course, I'm limited to JK and JO, and I wouldn't know which to pick. Still, ten weeks should be long enough.
Hey, Blue? I'm loving the things you do. From the very first time, the fight you fight for will always be mine.

I'm using JK and going all retro.

Same. :awesome:

Likewise, assuming I can get ZED to work.

ZED works great here. Even has all the same bugs as JED!
2009-09-25, 7:06 PM #32
Are you running Windows Vista?

Nevermind, I fixed it. I won't lose that easily suckers!!!!!!

I give a ****. It's my server, and my rear if there's illegal content on the server. If there are levels with illegal content, then you all should be responsible enough to report it so they can be removed.
2009-09-25, 8:14 PM #34
So no taking cogs from MotS and putting it in a JK level then?
2009-09-25, 11:45 PM #35
I wonder if Universal would actually give a **** if anyone modded The Infernal Machine
I also doubt LA cares about old cogs, but w/e.
2009-09-26, 1:02 AM #36
Aw nutbunnies, I still feel like finishing Anonymous for something like this but of course I have to finish TODOA instead.

(That and I already released it on JKHub so it wouldn't even qualify for the contest. Beh!)

I used to be a pretty decent cogger in the day -- maybe I'll see what I can come up with.

You cannot take any resources from any game and put it into a different game. Cogs, textures, models, nothing.

So I guess this is my cue to report every single level except for 5600 Block :P

That's fine... although I do find it funny you have a program available for download named BitMat
"This program converts Dark Forces BM textures to Jedi Knight MAT textures."

I feel like an *** for throwing that in, but.... well.... there you go.
