I just got one of those "health magazines' in the mail

Apparently Mom some how got on some kind of list and now she's being sent stuff for teachers. So today we got a "health' catalog. The first part has about 50,000 models of dead lungs, but then it moved to, erm, well sexual education. [http://forums.massassi.net/html/eek.gif] This is for 10 year olds! I put it down half way through. [http://forums.massassi.net/html/eek.gif] It was sick. 80 years ago you'd get put in jail for looking at that kind of crap. But now they're teaching it to middle scholars! [http://forums.massassi.net/html/eek.gif] And they're worried about drugs! Oh, brother. If anything's goona mess those kids up, it'd be that. I'm no longer suppressed so many kids are on drugs now. These kids are 10 years old for crying out loud! Do they really need to be learning about all the horrible things that go on in this world? At least wait till there 18 or 19. Were talking major R rated stuff here. These are the same idiots who go crazy about FPS’s. Stupid, stupid, stupid public school idiots! [http://forums.massassi.net/html/mad.gif] GRRRRRR! [/end rant]

Well, if teaching a foreign language to kids at an early age means the children speak it better when they're older...

So no sex ed until kids are 19? Do I really need to point out everything that's wrong with that idea?
It's just the human body and "where babies come from". It's not like they're showing them how to prepare and inject heroin. Get over it.

So, assuming I didn't read your post completely incorrectly, you are of the opinion that sexual intercourse is one of those horrible things that goes on in the world?

... Uh. I had sex ed in 4th grade. I'm not any more messed up.

They're kids, they're smart, they're going to figure it out. Why not have the school tell them what's right and what's wrong. That's the whole reason for sex ed's existence.

School shouldn't tell them what's "right" and "wrong" at all, they should tell them what "is" and let them make up their own mind.

If anything, sex ed should happen earlier and be a lot more blunt and blatant about it. None if this 'birds and bees' nonsense.
Too many teenage pregnancies are caused by ignorance.

One thing that was definitely missing in our sex ed syllabus at least was homosexual sex, it wasn't even mentioned. How anal sex is considerably more dangerous, for both partners, how you need different condoms, etc. That stuff should be taught.

I first got sex education when i was in year 9 I think... so that's 13 years old for those over the pond or elsewhere.

It was fine - not pornographic, just informative - like "here's how NOT to catch chlamidia" and "Here's how not to get girls pregnant".

The idea is you catch them before they start doing stupid things that can ruin their lives by doing things that their bodies will just tell them to do when they hit 15ish regardless.

Actually, the video they made us watch was priceless... it was basically Daleks asking two children, say 14 ish how humans reproduce. Production value nil. [http://forums.massassi.net/html/smile.gif]

Our teacher (The Legend) Mr Morrisson split us into two halves (boys and girls) and got us as groups to yell "PENIS" and "VAGINA" as loud as we could to get it out of our systems. Good times. [http://forums.massassi.net/html/smile.gif]

No, I'm takiling about some of the new stuff. Working modles of certian "things". sic sic sic. Mabye not 18, or 19, but at least untill thier mature enoguh to handle it. My question is why is this a big enough ishue to where every kid has to be thought it? Isn't this a job for the parents?

And why on earth do we neede to teach them about being gay? If there like that they can learn it on there own. Possibly, just possibly, every 9 year old doesn't have to know the in's and out's of having sex or being gay.

At my school we didn't have photographs, but we had some pretty detailed diagram.

As a guy, i've known what a penis looks like for my entire life, I don't see how a school could suddenly corrupt me with a fairly innocent diagram or photo.

I think i've actually known how 'it all works' since I was about 7 or 8.

im in the same boat as detty.

oh, and to your "waiting to teach them till they're 18 or 19" statement... the truth is that kids are having sex way before that, and there isnt much schools can do about it, and parents are lacking more supervision(and they just plain care less) every minute, so schools might as well teach kids how to use condoms, how everything works, etc, so you dont end up with pregnant 15 year olds.

Either you don't know what "sic" means or you're constantly misspelling "sick".

And how can a magazine have a "working model"? (maybe it's a pop-up book. Which sounds rather amusing.)

Oh, and:

Like I said, better they know before they do something to regret it. England has terrible statistics for young pregnancies - and so a recent education initiative has been taken to try and stamp it out.

I know what you mean about the level of maturity of students and parent responsibility, but who are we to decide those things? Sex ed is a necessary part of any child's education for their own personal safety. STI's = bad. Some parents are too "civilised" or too coy, or too damn lazy or stupid to talk to their children about these things, so it falls to the LEA's and LHA's to come up with a good sex ed course.

That went on a wee bit longer than I imagined... oops!

Well, I suppose if it actually an issue I suppose we gotta. I thought this was for the parents to do. Why does the goverment haveto teach our kids about every thing. Isn't anything a perents responsibility.

This is a really sad, pathetic, state of affairs. Kids having to be tought not to have sex before there married, and before they hit puberity. If kids are our future then I'm gonna be in a bunker if anyone needs me. I wounder what life will be like in 50 years. How 'bout Eating ed. or Eleeping ed. or Murder ed.? Or even better Breathing ed.! Ok kids, it's importent to breath every so often...

I learn something new everyday, you gotta learn from somewhere - for kids, it's school!

Oh, and sex before marriage ain't what they teach - it's safe sex. You need Christian schooling for that kind of message (Or whatever religion, with whatever ceremony in place fo marriage).

But that's beside the point [http://forums.massassi.net/html/smile.gif]

Why shouldn't you teach children the "ins and outs of sex and being gay"?

If anything, I think it's more important to teach them about homosexual sex, considering that it's more dangerous, and it's going to be harder for them to get information than with heterosexual sex. They'll almost certainly be facing a mountain of prejudice and homophobia outside of school, so I think it's very important that children with homosexual tendancies have someplace at school where they can get the support they need. It's inevitably going to be very depressing for a homosexual child to be growing up learning how so many other people seem to think that homosexuality is "wrong", so they'll need school to make them feel comfortable and happy and not afraid to ask questions.

School isn't just about 'getting grades' and churning out a future workforce. School is about preparing you for life, and sexual health is a big part of that.

These issues might be "taboo" in other facets of society, but I think it's important that schools tackle things head-on, none of this sugar-coating nonsense, just tell things the way it is, and doing so from an early age.

The longer a child stays ignorant about life, the more likely they are to make mistakes.

Well, I suppose that if you thing sex is just apart of every day life, why don't we just walk around necked when it's hot. Have sex with any body at a moments with out a thought. What would make rape bad worse than that? After all, you can just kill the kid anyway. Nothing makes any difference any way. We’re just life forms that really have no more significance than any other inanimate object. Who says what personal freedom is? The ones in who have the power. Why shouldn’t you do what ever you want? You're no better than animals. May as well throw all law and every thing else out the window while your at it. Eat drink and be merry for tomorrow we may die. But we're already dead aren't we? Is there a difference besides our movement? Please try to explain what difference any thing makes!

Now you’ll just quote me and say “Ha ha what and idiot” what out actually responding. Typical.

Because wearing clothes is also an everyday part of life.

Sex is natural, sexually active people may have sex everyday, sexually active married Christians may have sex everday. Just because something is special doesn't mean it can only be done every full moon or public holiday.
