wow...Obi, you're makign an idiot of yourself...ok, my opinion is, kids need to be told about sex at the average age that they go through puberty, so they understand their new feelings and such. I'm not saying the school needs to do this, nor the parents. I think both shoudl do it equally, with parents going more personal, and school more general. They need to be told that they what they can do in the way of sex, and what they should not do, under any circumstances. They should be told what a condom is for, how to use it, and so on and so on...

YOU HAVE MY THOUGHTS NOW!

Zloc

*edit*
Kids also should not be told that sex is only for married couples...i mean, they shouldn't do it when they're 15, but they shouldn't be told it isn't for personal pleasure. I mean, (if you believe in God) God created us to reproduce...in a sense...and having sex is just exlporing what God has given us

That's...odd. Not many 7th-graders I ever knew would enjoy just staring at a 3D model of the human penis as a passtime.

Regardless, what exactly is wrong with 7th Graders seeing a 3D representation of the penis? You do realize that, by that point, most of everyone has entered the early stages of puberty?

Poor, poor Obi. You've apparently lived a sheltered life. Let's take a look at some things:
  1. There was a girl in my town who got pregnant at nine years old. Why? She had no idea about sex other than it feels good. She didn't know that it can cause pregnancy (among other things). Ignorance only leads to consequence. As soon as a girl can begin menstruating, pregnancy is possible. That time, as is obvious from the above example, can be young. And it is possible to get pregnant even before the girl's first period.
  2. Would you really want to hear your parents talk about sex? NO THANK YOU! I do not want to hear the words "penis," "vagina," or anything relating to sex fluids come from my parents. Nor do I want to hear a speech about masturbation.
  3. For some reason, you seem to think that sex ed is a presentation of porn. It's information. It's science. If you really get grossed out by women's genitalia, your wedding night is going to be awkward![/list=a]
To conclude, ignorance is NOT bliss.

    Me: 3.
    Obi: 0.

And Martyn: what the heck are STIs? [http://forums.massassi.net/html/confused.gif]

Obi, your views are your views. No one is saying that your views on sex are wrong or anything, but the world is changing. Whether you believe it or not, sex is more a part of society these days. Because of that, it's better that kids learn about what it is so that they can make and educated. If they learn about the consequences (pregnancy, STDs, etc) and risks before faced with sex, they might ver decide to hold off on having sex. If they don't at least they can be smart about it.

Atheists aren’t the only ones that think your making an *** of yourself.

When someone says that sex is just as normal as eating, they mean its something everyone does, and has to do. That doesn't mean people should walk around screwing people left and right, because that’s indecent. And before you go off about how it’s indecent to teach kids about sex, they are two different things. Teachers are not sticking in porno’s for 10 year olds to watch, they simple telling them something that they HAVE to know, something that is natural, and something that is very important. (Yes, sex is important, for ya know, the survival of the human race)

I also had my Sex ED abut my 6th grade year, I didn't hear anything about a couple 12 years running home and having sex that same day. Most kids at that age are either scared or appalled by sex still, even if they do act like they know it all and joke about it. But at least when puberty comes, or later on in life when they have their first sexual encounter, they are educated.

You know, it's funny how those uber-religious fundamentalists all want to censor education. If they're so confident of their beliefs, why don't they just show kids all sides of the story and let them choose for themselves, rather than keeping people in ignorance - aka brainwash.

Anyone who thinks the Bible doesn't mention sex is naive, too. *cough*Obi*Cough*

"There she lusted after her lovers, whose genitals were like those of donkeys and whose emission was like that of horses. So you longed for the lewdness of your youth, when in Egypt your bosom was caressed and your young breasts fondled." -- Ezekiel 23:20-21

And read the Song of Solomon. [http://forums.massassi.net/html/wink.gif]

The problem is that you look upon sex as disgusting, whereas in Song of Solomon, it's looked upon as a beautiful thing. I suggest studying it, and adjusting your views accordingly.

Many people (read: Christians) don’t believe in no sex until marriage, so what exactly makes you right? Because that what you were taught all your life? Because that’s what you think is right? Right.
I'm not questioning your views, to each his own, but don't go around telling people that they are going to hell because they don't believe the same thing you do. It’s just an overall ****ty thing to do.

Also, after reading the remainder of the thread, yes, I agree with you on a few points, Obi. First, I think it's best to wait until marriage. Logically, if everyone in the world did this starting now, many STDs would be wiped from the face of the earth in a century. From a religious perspective, it's the right thing to do. If you're a Bible follower, the King James version mentions it's a sin to commit fornication (which means sex before marriage for those of you in denial). How a Christian could possibly believe sex before marriage is OK is beyond me, but whatever.

However, the similarities end there. Don't you think that it's important for kids to know the essence of what's going on? Or did you want them to swelter in ignorance until they make a big mistake?

I had ex ed in 5th grade. Although back in 5th grade, it was mostly talking about changes that happen during puberty. The years after that were more about sex and stds.

My personal opinion is that people need to know about it. I learned about sex from my friends, and none of them ever mentioned STD's or using condoms. Half the parents in this country don't even care about their kids, someone has to teach them.

to be fair, when that was written, the cultural norm was for people to get married when they were 12 years old or in early teens, so it was possible to hold off until marriage. Today, things are very different.

QUITE a good point. At age 14-16, your body is SAYING it's ready for sex, and children.

But honestly, Obi.. you must have had the Birds and the Bees talk young. Not all parents do that.

Before first grade, the knowledge I had about sex was "It feels good, and it involves the area on the lower half of your body. All of your friends have had it, too." I mean, I can remember in 2nd grade, people say 'omg, kayla and aaron were sexing!' when they were sleeping next to eachother at the 1st grade sleep over. Kids overlook the responsabilities of sex, and cut right to the funstuff. School teaches about sex, how it's done safelly, and why it's done. Private school is for your morals. Parents that try to change public schools to have less sex ed (Or change almost anything to a more conservative alternative) need to send their kids to a private school so they can go bankrupt sending all their money to christian childrens fund, and their church, because they were never tought about real life, like sex and bills etc.

But yes, I'm bisexual, and I just realized after reading this thread that I really don't know anything about gay sex. Nothing, really. And seeking this information is going to be difficult without telling my parents that I'm bisexual. I think I'll speak with The Planned Parenthood people next week when I'm in that area. It'd certainly make me a little more confident and safe, persuing my male attractions. I think it'd help those of us if they'd have explained that earlier on in my life, when I first started getting bisexual sensations. I hadn't actually realized I was bi until a friend realized I was hitting on him, not jokingly. Had 'gay' been explained to me earlier, well, I might have a better idea on the whole matter. It didn't help that my father is a complete homophob, either. Gay was just 'bad' in my household. No learning about it at all, just bad.
