I'm actually pretty surprised how civilized this conversation has been, compared to other political threads. I usually don't even get involved in these.

Well, that statement encompasses more than one thing that he did which later came to light. An example would be saying that invading Iraq was not for oil, or how when he left office your country was in one of the worst conditions it's ever been in.

My point is...It's only taken less than a year and leading up to it for Americans to start bashing Obama, his administration, and his policies. Yet it took close to 8 YEARS for Bush. The situation America is in does not happen over night, even in 365 days it's difficult to cause what's happened. You gave Bush plenty time to **** up the country and take half of the civilized world with it, give this health care reform time to try and repair some wounds.

In the end the people that are going to be responsible for America's downfall are Americans.

I think if you take a closer look at us 'murikans, you'll find that the people most vocally bashing Obama were not the ones bashing Bush. There's some number of moderates/undecideds who shift back and forth, but many people strongly support one side or the other and continue to do so no matter which is in power. People of my ilk strongly disliked Bush before he was even elected. The more chance he got to implement his policies, the more we disliked him. It may have taken him his whole presidency to reach his pinnacle of unpopularity, but a great many people disliked him long before.

I understand what you're saying, but there's one huge hole in your logic. It takes a majority vote for someone to get elected into office.

Sure, though I doubt the Canadian was referring to electoral majority. Most likely, he was referring to the popular majority. I don't know for certain, though.

It does not take a majority to elect anyone. A quick scan of the elections during the 20th century shows me that Presidents Clinton, Kennedy, Truman, and Wilson all never received majority popular vote. There are at least a couple others that didn't receive a majority in one election but did in another. The correct term, generally, is plurality however that would not hold true in an election such as 2000.

Tell me about it. One visit to Yahoo and all comments are directed towards Obama being an evil, socialist leader. Meanwhile, do the same for CNN and you'll get a bunch of "thank you" Obama like he's some sort of savior.

Needless to say, our country is now more divided than ever.

Actually, democrats shot down much of his policy. How can nobody remember all the filibusters? It was gWb that practically signed all the democrat legislation into law in the last couple years of his presidency along with many high profile cosponsored bill prior to that. Hell, he gets all the flak for The Swimmers No Child Left Behind Act.

I'm no big defender of gWb (read: Hussein) because I didn't like all of his huge big government programs. Guess what? I don't like it when the poor little orphaned puppy does it either.

You're plain wrong. When the largest group does not contain a majority it is called a plurality. Really, it's true.

You've misunderstood; I'm not pretending that I don't know what words mean. Where you've gone wrong is with this wacky suggestion that the concept of a plurality somehow has more to do with how we elect a president than the concept of a majority.

Yes and no. I guess I get your point however, as you know, a majority is not necessary to be elected. A good example of this is wJc because he is portrayed as such a popular president however he never received a majority vote. This is the real reason why I (with all its flaws) prefer the two party system. Otherwise we might routinely end up with presidents that garner much less than 40% being elected.

How is that a hole in my logic? You claim that Americans are fickle and have switched between strong support of Bush, strong dislike of Bush, strong support of Obama, and strong dislike of Obama. I don't know how the numbers exactly break down, but while the fickle may ultimately decide elections (joining with one side's base to create a majority vote), they aren't the ones who do most of the complaining. The people who drove anti-Bush sentiment never supported him, just like the people who now scream about death panels are the same ones who in 2008 were screaming about Obama's foreign birth and secret Muslim status.

Hmmm......ok I got it. Let me see if I can fix that.

I think I have the solution, guys. We abandon all medical science for fifty (50) years. No insurance by any means. If you get sick, you are left to your natural healing abilities. If you get mangled in a car wreck, sucks to be you. By this, we can allow Natural Selection to resume its course. Think about it. If Natural Selection takes hold, those with debilitating, life-threatening traits will die hopefully before they reproduce. Thus, removing their impure genetics from the pool. Once the gene pool has been sufficiently "chlorinated", our costs will go down because a) there will be far substantially less people to care for and b) healthier and more genetically strong people that can resist disease and heal faster!
Code to the left of him, code to the right of him, code in front of him compil'd and thundered. Programm'd at with shot and $SHELL. Boldly he typed and well. Into the jaws of C. Into the mouth of PERL. Debug'd the 0x258.

I have a hard time believing that this is going to do anything whatsoever even remotely close to good for me. Maybe I'd be better off living off of welfare and buying all sorts of stuff with the government's money and getting free healthcare.

Maybe I'm just pessimistic. Who knows.
woot!

I'm so sick of hearing the "government programs don't work well" bs.

I'm also getting pretty sick of the crap people spout that more or less doesn't mean anything, but sounds bad.

EDIT: I'm also really tired of the jackoffs who think the only people who will benefit from this are the unemployed. There are a decent number of working Americans who don't have healthcare and cannot afford it. So yes, I do expect you to foot the bill because they can't.
