AFAIK it's the graphics and some other things that are the "Creation Engine", the rest is still... gamebryo.
Like war, gamebryo never changes.

The bug with the "Nobody Escapes from Cidhna Mine" is easily avoidable. It's follows on from another quest. At the end of the first quest you go into a temple to meet a guy and get ambushed by city guards. You kill 'em and leave, but once outside they try to arrest you. If you agree to go to jail the Escape quest begins. The bug is that after you've completed the Escape quest if you go back into the temple, the same guards are there to ambush you. If you kill them, the city guards will try to arrest you like before. If you don't resist arrest and ask to go to jail, it glitches out and the guards will start attacking as if you had resisted.

Easy enough to avoid by just not going back into the temple. At least until a patch is out.

I probably screwed up my chance at that quest completely, mine glitched in a different way. I must not have had my weapon out, when I entered the temple and they attacked one of the options was to pay my fine. Doing that put me right outside temple again (something like -400 gold). The next time I entered the temple the guards just stood there, so I walked up and raided Eltrys body. Then left looking for more quests.

Well I guess i'll try it again, where the hell did my stuff go though? I got out of the mine and walked around for a while looking for my stuff when I found the glitch.

my roommate is doing marksman as well, seems a huge step up from oblivion, it sort of peaked my interesting when looking at the talent tree for it

When you have the zoom perk and the slow motion, as well as crit strike and damage perks, the bow is insanely effective.

I think I'm around 40 hours in now. Putting pretty much every perk into Sneak or Archery. Bowhunting skills.

It has been brought to my intention that you cannot be a werewolf and vampire at the same time =[

Guess that would be too overpowered

To be honest, I'm not keen on the werewolf aspect of this game. I loved it in Morrowind because it added a bit of change (trying to do Tribunal as a werewolf was genuinely interesting since you didn't have many places to go to at night and keep yourself undetected), but in Skyrim it's a self-activated transformation and the only limitation to it seems to be that it only lasts for a little while unless you feed yourself to sustain it. The head of the [group you join that gives you the power] didn't seem keen on being one so I might head back to them later and see if that's how the quest to cure it starts.

That said, it has done a really good job of sucking me in to the game. Definitely see a lot more playability in this than I got from Oblivion.

Yeah totally.

But has anyone else had a bit of a problem getting used to the bows in Skyrim? I have been playing Oblivion all the way up until Skyrim came out and right off the bat I couldn't get it down. On /r/skyrim people were talking about an Auto-aim and all you have to do it put the crosshair on your target and it will hit.. because I was always aiming over their heads to compensate for the drop and missing these mofo's.

I don't know about that. I've had to aim above targets to hit them plenty of times. Shooting giants from a distance is one of my favorite ways to entertain myself in Skyrim.

I just didn't like that it's mandatory to continue the questline.

I was pretty meh about the werewolf stuff, so I ended that questline pretty quickly.

If you finish the quest by killing Monanach and escaping on your own someone should have approached you when you were back in the city and told you the Jarl has relieved you of your crimes , and return your stuff to you. If you finish the quest by helping Monanach escape he should have given all your gear back to you once you were in the streets, just before he and the Forsworn massacre the city .

From what I've read so far there are a few different bugs with the quest triggers for starting and ending this quest. I managed to complete it without a hitch and I think that's because you have to do the quest exactly as intended, and it's like this:

The second time you visit the shrine (when the three guards will be there) enter without having a bounty on your head. If you have a bounty already the quest will probably break immediately. After you fight and kill the guards and go back out to the streets, you have to have your weapon put away so a guard can immediately attempt arrest. If you do anything other than agree to go to jail, like fighting or trying to run away or going into any other buildings, the quest will break. After you escape the mine, you should exit the ruins with your weapon put away. If you helped Monanach escape, do not help them attack the guards. Just let them kill everyone and leave. Do not at any point re-enter the shrine. Just pack up your **** and leave the city.

I've been able to return to the city and everyone is friendly to me. My game stats still list a 2000 lifetime bounty that the quest puts on you but the city guards don't try to arrest me.

Oh god yes. I played an archer as far through Oblivion as I made it, and in Skyrim I couldn't hit ANYTHING that was more than about five feet away.
Also, I can kill you with my brain.

I can't figure out why I am wasting my time with this game. It feels like Oblivion and Fallout 3 had a baby with dragons... I guess I was naively expecting some great leap forward and something that felt new to the genre. I know it's Bethesda... Maybe it's time for me to admit that I just can't get into their games anymore.

At least I admit that. It was a redbox rental. Thank god I will not be paying full price for this game. I am saddened that it felt far too familiar, and I guess I don't fall into Bethesda's customer base that is ready and willing to accept the same rehashed thing again. I loved Morrowind. I loved Oblivion. I tried to love Fallout 3. My love is jaded at this point.

Like the game. Hate the UI.

The worse part about the UI is that fact they make you hit the enter key?!? wtf that's all the way over there.

That, and the barter system as well as the menu that comes up when you hit TAB. No quests? I have to hit ESC for that? The mouse doesn't seem to work on a lot of menus, and navigating everything using the arrow keys is tedious.

I've been using 'J' to pull up quests menu but yeah, even that is annoying.

It's definitely not perfect, but it's still a lot of fun. My biggest complaint is the AI companion/followers. I'm still letting Lydia tag along but damn... she blocks me at every doorway. I doubt a different companion would be better, unless maybe you can get a spirit/ghost.

Every so often I get a bug where the game stops responding to TAB key presses. I think it's related to steam's overlay, using shift-tab to respond to steam msgs. That one can get annoying because sometimes ill be stuck in a dialog menu, unable to exit, unable to save.

It is. I've experienced it when my brother's messaged me about the game. From the next room. You just need to bring up the Steam overlay once or twice and it should work properly. Failing that, alt+tab out of the game and back in again

No... I guess not that's not what I meant.

Forget wasting my time on this game, I don't know why I waste my time on this ****ing forum full of pompous condescending idiots.

If it's a problem, you can change steam's shortcut for activating the overlay in Steam settings.

Not much of a problem for me, since I only have my brother on my friends list so it's not like I get flooded with messages. Thanks for the tip, though.

I didn't like Fallout 3 or New Vegas. I didn't like Oblivion either. But I love Skyrim. Not sure what it is about it, but I can't put it down. I think it might be what Jon'C alluded to earlier in regards to caves being interesting. It took me at least 4 gaming sessions to get to High Hrothgar or whatever right at the beginning to see the Greybeards, just because I spent most of my time entering caves and fighting dudes.
