I'm doing alot of cave clearing right now too, rather than focus on main quest. Honestly most of the caves really arent that exciting and are completely linear. It's sorta like an obsession I had with Fallout New Vegas, I just want to visit every location.

Zan, that's just a photoshop sketch, its not an actual ingame mod. From experience with the gamebryo engine, its possible to tweak the ui, but I don't think its possible to tweak it that much.

That being said, I'd LOVE to be proven wrong.

I realize it's a photoshop but it gets my hopes up. Actually this isn't the first time I've seen an outline for a new UI so Im curious to see what can be done.

After downloading it and playing for about 10 hours, I decided to uninstall the game. I think Jon`C might have been right. The promise of open world games and the reality are two very different things. In order to have a fun roleplaying experience in these games, I have to limit how I play and use my own imagination to fill the giant blanks that the game is inevitably going to have while claiming to provide real decisions. I think I'd have a much better time playing a more controlled experience while saving open ended "do anything" experiences for dungeons and dragons or NWN (or wait for a game I actually enjoy the gameplay part of to come out with dungeon master tools like NWN).

Furthermore, the fatigue of the fighting system and the wonky engine from Oblivion carried over to this game and made every fight an absolute chore for me. Oh, and dragon fights aren't at all the dynamic experiences they claimed they'd be. They either fly in circles breathing elements at you, or land to let you whack at them with your stats. I had more fun watching the AI fight eachother in this game than I did fighting them myself. I am glad I downloaded it instead of buying it, and I still might pick it up when it's GotY and there's a hefty library of mods to fix the things I can't stand about this game, but in general I think it's just not meant for me.

Oh, and I just don't get how people can call this game beautiful. The only improvements I see is that they stopped bump-mapping character's faces, which is a dramatic improvement. I was able to turn all of the highest features on, and while it certainly looks better than oblivion, that's not really saying much. I tried battlefield on a friend's computer recently, and the fact that people are comparing these engines confuses me. He also has skyrim and it doesn't look any better on his machine than it does mine. Is it seriously fanboyism or am I just missing something critical? Skyrim does not look like next gen graphics.

I have played for 48 hours.

My tastes aren't refined enough to hate Skyrim.

I think the game looks great. I don't think anyone would argue it's on par with BF3 or Crysis2. I do understand your point about not enjoying the actaully fighting as much as watching the AI fight. I tend to run most of my fights as an overseer- spawning a Demon or Familar to assist my Follower while I engage in some long range magic. Right now Steam lists my playtime is 66.9h. I am disappointed that one of the important quests is glitched for me. I am hoping it gets fixed in a patch before I have to cheat it.

I misread my playtime and it's actually 21 hours, which is a good premise to this post: I just read my post up there, and I don't mean to be so dramatic. I definitely have stopped, looked over a ravine and sat there for a minute while the sun went down. I can even forgive some of the reuse of props. I have fun looting every house dry and killing everyone that isn't necessary to a quest. Crafting and collecting stuff really is fun in this game and makes me feel like a blacksmith. The magic is really a lot more useful than in Oblivion, too.

I just feel like, in order to make the giant open world, which I have fun traveling across, they ended up sacrificing some of the artistic integrity for something that could be more rapidly produced. I would have preferred 3 giant cities with little villages that were more specifically designed than the open landscape with 3 different themes and 5 character templates/voices. I feel like a white dude at a rap concert, and I can't tell anyone apart. The story is also so much more generic than even some of the plots in oblivion, honestly. Only the main plot has improved, really.

I'll have a lot more fun when mods allow me to use my imagination a lot more and really roleplay a character hard, and play some awesome user made missions. It really isn't fair to expect the developers to make 50 different vases for different regions and tastes, but it's certainly reasonable to wait for the modders to do it before buying the game. I mean, it makes sense: To offer choice and quality would be a huge undertaking. I can search a board for quests for mages and rangers/hunters that were the only thing one guy was working on for 4 months, and have a really rich experience that makes me feel like there are lots of options while not making me feel like the only option is to loot everything and pickpocket everyone until I have all of the things. It's not so much the game, it's me is what I'm saying.

PS. The thieves guild is ****ing boring as ****, yet stealing everything is the most lucrative thing to do in the game. Makes me hate my tendancies towards degenerative playstyles.

Considering it's an open gateway into Morrowind, maybe we'll get a return to Mournhold. Or maybe a return to Vvardenfell.

So my game has been crashing. I got all the way to a level 14 without a single hitch then my rig seemingly starts acting up. I've tried all the fixes, 16bit audio, disable SLI, modify the exe to use >2gb of ram, turned the graphics down some, latest drivers, beta drivers ect.. But never the less it continues to crash, maybe a minute or two into the game but it seems to be only when I'm outside and not inside a building.

On top of that, I've been getting random crashes from other programs like steam, chrome, and flash/shockwave player, I ran memtest on the windows7 install disc over 10 passes and no errors showed up. I reinstalled windows from scratch thinking that should definitely solve the issue but it has not. When it BSODs it happens so fast I can't see the error message. Either I don't know how to read the event log in Windows 7 or it's worthless. Makes me sad I cannot play skyrim at the moment

Turn off auto restart on crashes, that should leave the bsod up and you can copy down the stop code and any files that may be referenced.

The other day the game auto-updated via steam and I'm getting a ton of crashes too.

I get the occasional skyrim crash, usually after about 2 hours of straight gaming it will crash to desktop. No errors, it just disappears.
