For talking about Halo 3.

So as I was saying, it's disappointing that Halo 3 barely looks better than Halo 2.
2007-09-20, 7:37 PM #2
And I was complaining about being broke and anticipating a Halo 3 ***-whupping from my friends when they get months of practice in before I even get to see the cover art.
I had a blog. It sucked.

I have to agree with Vinny on the graphics. None of the images/videos I've seen have had impressive visuals.

I'm not saying that the graphics are the only thing that matters, but it's too bad it doesn't come close to Gears of War, which came out a year ago.

Yeah, it's pretty lame. Overall I'm basically just expecting a slightly better Halo 2.

Can't remember where I just saw it but an ingame still shot I saw within the last couple days was stunning.

Gears has tiny levels on rails with metric crap loads of details.
Halo has massive levels with far more combat options with that metric crap load of details evenly distributed.

Halo also has always had a unique style. To make it look like Gears would be ridiculous, and impractical considering the scales Halo works with.

Can I also point out, that 80% or more of released screenshots are from multiplayer, which has always been toned down detail wise for the sake of gameplay and keeping things smooth. Footage and screenshots from the campaign are generally mashed together from a variety of builds. Everything shown at E3 was already 6 months old or more.

I don't understand why everyone feels the need to compare EVERYTHING to Gears. Yeah, it's pretty, but what they did CANNOT be applied to EVERY game. I would've thought you guys would know that much. No one ever complained about Crackdown not looking like Gears. Or R6 Vegas. Or GRAW. All of which arguably fall short of having that much detail shoved in your face at one time.

The SP portion has excellent graphics.

Oh, and alot of people have the game early because employees/vendors decided to break the street date. It's not really illegal either, so you don't have to jump the gun and lock threads about leaked copies lol..

And MS isn't banning Live accounts that play early.

He was peddling questionable goods. No reason not to lock the thread.

Yeah, I think as soon as someone uses the phrase "I know a guy that knows a guy" credibility goes out the window.

As a person that's only played the first Halo for about 5 minutes on a PC, I really don't have much of an opinion on the matter. But if the battles are supposed to be as large-scale as I've been lead to believe then it sounds pretty :awesome:

My roommate's friend lives in the dorm and has a crappy TV. He has an Xbox 360, and we have a nice HDTV. He's bringing his Xbox over so that he can play Halo3. He's leaving his Xbox so that we can play Halo3. Everybody freaking wins.

I'll go out on a limb here and say most of you guys are talking out of your proverbial asses. Who's actually played the game?

The closest I've come is the beta, which was really fun. I don't know how you could base your opinion off the game if you've only read articles, looked at pictures, or watched videos.

I can't comment on the SP part because I obviously haven't played it. However, I think it's safe to say that it will "look better than MP" because the previous 2 versions toned down the graphics for MP. I can easily say that this game is meant to be played in HD, and will look like **** if it isn't. I think that's safe to say with all the next-gen consoles.

I can also tell you that I've never played a game on Live! that was so smooth. Halo had lag issues. Halo 2 was vastly improved, but still had issues. Halo 3 is leaps and bounds above what Halo 2's improvements were to 1's. I'm actually looking forward to the fact that I can co-op over Live! for the first time.

The two things that impressed me the most were the movable turrets, and the movies that you can make. The turrets take gameplay in a whole new direction, and I don't know how people couldn't lower their learning curves if they can watch entire matches.

I'm not too fond of the HUD, but the weapons are pretty sweet. I'm still debating on whether I like the new gadgets, but the vehicles are fun as hell.

But that's all based off of the beta, which isn't really the game, but merely a representation of it. I'm sure that it's going to be a little rough in the beginning, but Bungie is anal about fixing gameplay/balance issues. Halo 2 was a bit iffy MP-wise at first, and Bungie really ironed it out with updates and playlist changes.

Halo 3 won't be the best game ever, but it will be a solid platform title.

My 360 started freezing up about a week ago after having it for less than a month. I am officially less than impressed with Microsoft.

Don't wait for the RRoD. Call support now and have them repair it. Turn around time for me has been less than a month. It literally got to the repair center and a new one was shipped out a day later.

With things like Orange Box games, UT3 and Crysis coming out, I think Halo 3 gets an inordinate amount of hype. Sure the fans will love it, but it doesn't look like it really brings anything new to the table.
2007-09-21, 9:32 AM #23
I have no questions that it will be a solid game. I have questions if it will be omg smock-the-bed awesome. It's just more of the same things. Halo isn't a BAD game, it's just a basic, generic game. It's "obligatory shooter 3."

Obligatory Shooter 1 was simply the first to accomplish it well on the Xbox.
Obligatory Shooter 2 improved the multiplayer, but had a boring [repetitive] single player.
I hope this one is better on both aspects.

your right, I don't think it's "illegal" to break streetdate, but if you do and the company you work for or the publisher or distrubitor is able to track it to your store you can get a hefty fine and possibly be fired.

But I know a couple people who got or are getting the game early, One owns a gaming cafe and he's getting a copy of the game so he'll have it on release date for people to play, he's getting a bunch of coppies.

And Orange Box and UT3 do? Yeah, I'm not mentioning Crysis, because one, it's not on the 360 anytime soon if at all, and two, I know it has alot of new stuff going for it.

It's kind of funny, even though I'm not expecting a life-changing game, for some reason I'm getting more and more excited for it as time passes.

So, what is everyone doing on launch day?

My friend and I are going to buy it at midnight and play through the night, skip our morning classes. Not sure if we're going to do co-op or MP first.

You... can't... play... Halo... on... Live!...

...so what was the point of that?

Halo lags like hell over a LAN when you have I'd say somewhere around 6 or more people in a close area, especially if they're all firing. Most of the lag is graphical, the other part is all the action going on. 16 people can be smooth at times on the large maps, but you'll get frequent lag spikes.

But the paragraph was referring to how smooth the games play on Live, not LAN. I figured that's what you meant but it isn't clear.

I also played the beta and as the above poster stated, even over Live, lag is nearly non existent. In Halo 2, the host team had a distinct advantage over the other team and I bet if the numbers were available, the host team won 7-9 times out of 10. But all this is irrelevant as we are talking about Halo 3. I could never tell which team was host in the beta like I could in Halo 2, based solely on how much more damage the host team's weapons inflict. Every match in the beta felt so much more balanced than Halo 2. The beta was rad.

Do you guys realize there is a built in custom game editor? (Forge) It's budgeted, but players can spawn whatever weapons or objects they want into the game wherever they want, then save and upload the map for other people to download and play. I can't say that I have played a multiplayer console game that allows this, although I think one of the Farcry xbox iterations had a map editor.

The saved films look sweet too, you all can go back over your film and see exactly how I whooped your *** in that last match.

Believe the hype, as far as console games go, this is one of the few that's going to be worth the 60 bucks.

Shiznit: Forge reminded me of Natural Selection's Commander. It's not an original concept, although from the little I saw it's possible they've done some small new twists with it.

All the TimeSplitters games have a very strong single- and multi-player level creator. Specifically this refers to the following part of Shiznit's second last post:

Of course he dies. I doubt many gamers will be able to play through the entire game with one life.
