Actually many kids in the US are obese fo a variety of factors. The primary factor is economics: usually, now, both parents work a full time job and thus do not have time to prepare full, healthy, home-cooked meals. Food grade ingredients also cost more than many people can afford, leading them to purchase lower-quality prepared foods which are made with fillers and byproducts. These lower-quality prepared foods have lower actual nutritional value but elevated caloric content, typically through a large quantity of fats or by the use of high glucose corn syrup as a sweetener, both of which are also difficult to metabolize.
The increasingly sedentary lifestyle is largely because the parents do not set good examples for their children. Modern parents are too lazy and incompetent to engage in actual child-rearing or physical activities so instead they buy their children video game consoles in order to distract them.
To summarize: No, Warlockmish, you are not fat because of video games. You're fat because you're poor and you have bad parents.

Thank you. This is a perfect explanation of why me and my three brothers are at the reccomended weight for our respective heights. My family, while I was growing up, nearly never ate any fast food or pre-prepared food. My mother cooked three meals a day, and that's what we had. They were all made completely from scratch. People ask me how I am so thin. It's because I spent the first 19 years of my life eating REAL FOOD.
Granted, I have spent the last 3 years of my life eating junk, and have subsequently gained 20 pounds or so. This simply further reinforces joncy's point.
