Just poking fun at the previous comments about graphics. Also, I didn't know if you knew the correct spelling. Wasn't trying to be an ***. Not that time anyway.

Seriously though, the graphics. It looks like Halo 1/2 with generic next-gen engine improvements; no real innovation or improvement anywhere.

I don't know how anyone can seriously say things like that when the proof is in the screenshots. I decided to pick it up today for $48. Don't know when the game will get that cheap again.

The textures and models aren't much better than Halo 2, but the environment is huge, the effects are great, and there's tons of units on the screen, with pretty intelligent AI for every one of them.

Awesome, great fun so far.

yes the textures and models sure as hell are better than halo 2, although they don't really shine unless you're playing the game at 720p

Caved, bought the game earlier than I intended, just finished the campaign. Friggin' awesome. The story is obviously not as deep as BioShock, but it was enough to make me care about the characters (which was actually missing from BioShock since all the characters were awful people). The graphics are very pretty... an obvious upgrade when you're playing the game. They only look the same in screenshots because the art style is exactly the same.

And of course, it plays brilliantly.

not enough tank in the campaign tbqh
2007-09-27, 6:43 PM #131
That much is definitely true. I also thought they might have been a bit generous with the ammunition, as there were several weapons I didn't fire once all the way through the game. I can probably put that down to the fact that I was playing on Normal though.

Playing in 1080i, they really aren't that much better.

You need to get your eyes checked.

Looked way better.

Meh, I guess I just don't care that much about the models or textures. Game's a lot of fun, the effects are MUCH better. Who cares about graphics.

Best line ever. Just because of how retarded that marine sounds saying it.

Will buy when I have money.

Alright... which one of you told Bungie the only thing we wanted was more Flood?

I like the Flood. Space zombies. Wave after wave of armed space zombies.

Man I loved the Flood in the first one. Then the second one ruined it. Looked lame IMO. And just wasn't the same feel. In the first one I was like "OHHH CRAP FLOOD!" and in the second one I was like ".. oh its more flood"
2007-09-28, 11:04 AM #142
Halo 3 is a much better game than 1 and 2 IMO. I didn't even like the first two Halo games that much. They had far too many cookie-cutter, boring, ugly-looking indoor environments. Too many boring environments in general (Library level anyone?). Too much backtracking. Too much gameplay repetition.

I wouldn't go as far as to say I love Halo 3, but it is nevertheless the first title in the series that has not disappointed me. The graphics look pretty nice, not on a Gears of War level but good looking nevertheless. Big improvement over Halo 1 and 2 with those game's tendency to overuse ugly grey hallways. And 4-player online Coop is the absolute ****.
2007-09-28, 11:24 AM #143
Halo 1's last level is still my favorite coop experience of all time (did I say that already?). Of course, I'm only about half way through Halo 3, so maybe that will change. Taking out a Scarab for the first time was pretty ****ing fun.

Played Halo 3 multiplayer till 3 in the morning. Freakin loved it. I like the new weapons, shields, power ups, cloak, brute chopper, and the removable turrets. Sandtrap CTF is amazing.

Oh crap you gotta take out a scarab?
That must have sucked.

You get to take out 3-4 throughout the whole game.

At least on normal, they're not hard at all.

By far the easiest way is to just find a plasma turrent, rip it off, and unload on the legs. Seconds later the thing is down, and you jump in. That's the dangerous part, because usually there's some brute freak sitting in the dark corner blasting you with a rocket launcher and you've got nowhere to go.

Um, yeah. I'm alright with the same varieties of Flood we saw in the first game (though they're really just not as fun to kill as the Covenant), but the new guys? They seriously pissed me off.

I took some screenshots of the fight, but my internet connection was off when I did it, so they didn't upload. I figured they would upload automatically once I connected, but they didn't, so I'm not sure what to do. I'll try and figure it out.

I don't know about Normal, but on Legendary there's Ghosts or Hogs attacking, too.

You know you have to choose one of your six available slots for each screenshot, right? Basically you can store stuff on the HDD, but you only get 6 slots of sharing online/sending to other people.
2007-09-28, 2:33 PM #151
But, when you save a screenshot, it says it sends it to bungie.net or something like that.

Good point. I have a screen shot on bungie.net that I didn't move into my file share area. Interesting.

Hi-Res Halo 3 Screenshots

30 of your most recent screenshots will be automatically saved when you take a picture in the game. If you reach more than 30, older screenshots will be deleted when new ones are added.

Be sure to save your best screenshots to your Service Record Gallery! You can publish your gallery screenshots to forums or use them for your Glory Shot on the front page of your Service Record.

Since we're on that subject....

Anyone else see absurdly LONG times before a screenshot actually shows up on Bnet? It'll upload, and then it's sometimes 24 to 48 hours or more LATER before it actually shows up online.

I think I read somewhere that it's because they all get stuck in a horrendously long que because millions of people are doing it all at once, but if that's true... shouldn't they have at least planned for that and gotten a little more horsepower behind the screenshot servers?

Online multiplayer... meh. I'm having infinitely more fun in the CoD4 multiplayer beta than I am with Halo. Singleplayer was a blast, but it's just not carrying over into multiplayer for me. Maybe playing with some -ians will be more fun.

MP is a *lot* more fun with friends. Not to mention certain tasks like flag running are nearly impossible without a friend to drive a getaway vehicle for you.

Well, luckily the File Share updates right away. So, now I can make the reply I wanted to earlier.

Taking out a leg.

My friend managed to board before I did. They conveniently have a turret right where you get on.

This brute died, but then a second jumped out and killed my friend.

Luckily, I was right behind him when it happened. I picked up his gun, took out the brute, and brought down the Scarab.

Sweet!

I'm considering picking up a 360 solely for this game (And Madden.)
I just deposited 1200 for a job a did, I totally should not be spending like anything at all, but I might just say screw it and get it.

Considering my Brother ganked my old xbox when he moved, I might just do it.. since I'm xbox less.

DO IT!
2007-09-28, 6:20 PM #159
If you have friends to play with, even just over Live, do it. Playing alone is only entertaining in short intervals.

You convinced me, doing it this weekend

Yea, I'd do it on Live. I'm moving 2 hours north this weekend as well, so 2 hours away from all my friends. Don't think much split screen is going to be going on.. lol. Working 60 hours a week, so no time for friends either.
