The New Halo 3 Thread

Just pre-ordered it. I wasn't planning to because I remember when Halo 2 came out everybody lined up and stuff, and it turned out there was more then enough copies for everybody. But I figured since I have plans for launch night, pre-ordering can't hurt.

I might actually be more excited about Yahtzee's eventual review of Halo 3 than I am about the game.

What I liked about Halo was I felt like I was playing Unreal Tournament with concrete shoes on.

I likes me some Halo, but I can't wait to see what he comes up with either.

Funny; to me it felt like I was playing it on the moon. Which may actually be what they were going for.

Ok, I wasn't thinking about gravity, I was thinking about the sloooow gameplay.

But keep in mind, I've only played it once.

Halo has slow gameplay? What?

When you're fighting waves of Flood it can totally feel like UT with concrete shoes, which has always felt totally awesome to me.

The rest of the time... I dunno... Depends on how you play. I approach most of the battles more strategically unless I'm forced into a brawl.

You haven't played UT, have you.

Like I said, I only played Halo once on a console, and it was a deathmatchy type map. I've played UT alot. Movement, action, everything seemed half-speed in Halo compared to UT. IMO. <.<

Halo is very overrated. It's definitely a good, solid game, but consolers seem to go nuts about it since they've not played anything better.

It could just be that it's one of the best console FPSs on the market, and as such, you can conveniently get a group of your friends together for some games with just a few TVs and a few boxes instead of having everyone bring their own PCs and trying to find room/power-outlets for everyone...

I'm not going to accuse you of hating fun. And I'm sure you have played system link Halo. But for me, I was the same way. I didn't see what the hype was about. Then Friday night we got a 3 on 3 system link going on and I had the best time of my life. This is the way it goes for most people I know and my friends know, but I guess Halo isn't something everyone likes.

It's definitely not the greatest game ever. It's actually an average game. But something about it makes playing with friends really fun.
I had a blog. It sucked.

If it was on the PS2 I think I have played that. I know I played an Unreal game on the PS2 YEARS ago. Had a lot of fun when I played it.

I must admit, though, that I play games primarily for the single player experience and I never thought of Halo as slow. My criticisms would be repetitive levels and cartoonish enemies. However, the game has great controls, variety with regards to the vehicles, and a decent story. I also must confess that I didn't buy the original until it dropped to under $15 at Walmart. I bought number two closer to the launch because I knew they would milk it for full price for years. Kind of like they're doing with Gears of War. I hope that Halo 3, Orange Box, and whatever new shooters are coming out will drive GoW down to a reasonable price. It's still $55 used.

System Linked Halo is the most fun a group of depraved young men can have on a hot summer night -- alone in a big dorm.

That sounds so wrong. And it probably is.

On another note, you'd probably love Forge.

I just realized the other day that since I have an XBox and an XBox 360 I could pick up some extra copies of some of my XBox games for LAN play. Except then I remembered I don't have any friends.

Buying my friend's 360 then grabbing HALO tonight. Not a HALO fan at all but it will be a blast to play this over live with some buddies.

If it's anything like the first 2 then it will be a blast to play with some friends over. I pre-ordered a few months ago, me and 3 friends will be at Gamestop at 9PM tonight to wait for it. We are bringing our laptops so we can play Halo PC Multiplayer while we wait :P

I liked Halo better when it wasn't completely over hyped. :(

It's shipped! It should be here by the time I wake up tomorrow! Can't wait to get a friend over and tackle the story mode. Halo has always been one of my favorite coop games.

That's just stupid. Halo has always been over hyped, and yet has always been able to deliver fun gaming, for me at least. Don't hate something just because people won't shut up about it. People suck. **** their opinion and just play.

Really? I remember when I first heard about Halo for some reason it seemed like some totally underground game that no one but my brother and his group of friends played, and that sense made it seem that much more awesome when I played it for the first time. I could be wrong, I was like 9.

halo was more fun when you could one-shot someone with the pistol from across blood gulch

My friend and I played through most of the SP in coop only to find out that it doesn't save progress made in coop. Who the hell ever decided that that would be a good idea? This was in Halo 2.

Nah, Halo had been making ripples in the gamer community back before it was even an FPS.

Oddly enough that's also what made it completely retarded.

Didn't it at least unlock the new level when you got to it? I can't remember. When I played Halo 2, all of the levels were already unlocked.

So I was just watching my flatmate and his little brother playing Halo 3 co-op for about half an hour, and it looks exactly the same as the other two that came before it. Maybe that phrase "don't fix what ain't broke" is applicable here, but wow. The physics, the graphics, the gameplay. Nothing looked new at all.

Yes, it does. I just doesn't save midlevel progress if you quit from Co-op. Halo's checkpoint save system applied to single player only, not co-op. That might be different now with Halo 3. I don't know. Regardless, it never really bugged me. First time I ran through Halo in co-op I didn't have an Xbox, so my friend would bring his over. If we didn't have time to finish a level, it wasn't a big deal for us to start over, because we didn't know when he'd be able to bring it by again.

You're surprised? The difference between Halo 1 and Halo 2 was dual wielding and a sword.

I'll make my own judgement about the graphics whenever I pick up the game but I highly doubt there is no improvement. On the other hand, I can't see why the physics or gameplay would be different.

I echo these sentiments. Big changes have not been made. Crap loads of little ones have. Play Halo 2 and Halo 3 side by side. There's a marked difference.

Time to go get ready to stand in line. Four hours to go.

Why would anybody stand in line for this game? Maybe if there is only one retailer in an area carrying it but other than that just drop leisurely in to practically any major store and pick one up.

Yup. It's not that I'm worried about getting a copy. My friend and I are going to pick it up, and play all night. It'll be cool playing on Live with a bunch of people who just got it. It's also a great excuse to drink on a Monday night.

I could understand if we're talking launch day of a console that you know will be hard to get because they'll run out, that's why I said if there was only one store because it's conceivable that if only one store carries the product and there is a HUGE demand it could sell out. But stand in line in the middle of the night to pick up something that you could easily pick up in the normal course of a day? Crazy.

edit - Or even just walk in to the store at midnight. I'm just hung up on the waiting in line thing. I've been having trouble sleeping lately. Maybe I'll go see how many whackos are hanging out at the game stores.

Actually, I don't have any real problem with this. To each their own.
