Muse - Apocalypse Please

They were ****ing excellent at Roskilde. For the first half they just had the floating Absolution silhouette men projected behind them for their older stuff. Once they got to Apocalypse Please, the back screen suddenly split into four enormous columns behind them with images like some vintage black and white film with a seastorm, a Battlestar Galactica dogfight, and explosions projected across them. During the arpeggio bridges in the middle they had a cloudy two-planed tunnel streaking past (think "My god it's full of stars" from 2001) with a vertical beam of light going back and forth to the beat (like KITT's hood). Naturally they finished off the song with some terrific climactic footage of a blossoming nuclear explosion rising out of the ocean.

They really put on a great show. For Time is Running Out they had goose-stepping legs marching back and forth to the beat, when they did Stockholm Syndrome as an encore they had a green electric staircase with lightning forking out of it in the arpeggio-chord sequence, and finished off by dropping a dozen massive (5m diameter) balloons ontop of the audience which got punted along until they burst and sprayed confetti over everyone underneath. Really awe inspiring. Sound & Vision married to perfection.

Franz Ferdinand - Michael

Best. Homoerotic song. Ever.

Franz Ferdinand were amazing live, every song was an absolute killer. The crowd went wild for Take Me Out which was near the start of the set, and the startling energy of the show didnt let up until a roof-raising This Fire at the end. Other highlights were a surprinslgy emotional Jacqueline, a peppy Darts of Pleasure where the whole band jumped around the stage like mad for a while, and my personal favourite, Michael (for the record, no I am not gay). Only complaint about the gig was it only lasted just over an hour, which aint that long. But I guess it's to be expected when the band only has 1 released album, they did play every song off it.

If Franz Ferdinand tour in your area, definitely go see them live. I cant wait till they tour their next album here.

Keane - Bedshaped

Keane and Snow Patrol double-gig tonight. Keane first.

Wow, that boy has an amazing voice. The CD just doesnt capture it somehow, Tom Chaplin has one heck of a set of lungs in him. The raw emotion and passion are just spine-tingling. Honestly, he was better than Chris Martin (Coldplay) live. We Might As Well Be Strangers gave me goosebumps, as did Tom hitting every high note with precision in She Has No Time. The band is clearly proud of Somewhere Only We Know, they sung it with such devotion. Bedshaped was a wonderful closer, although I think my general love for that song helped somewhat. Keane are a love / hate thing for most people, personally I love them. The lack of guitars is so refreshing, even without flying riffs they managed to light up the stage and audience. If you like Keane's album, you will love them live.

Snow Patrol. One word: Run.

Actually, make that nine more words: Somewhere a Clock is Ticking, How to be Dead.

Those 3 songs alone were worth the $45 ticket. Breathtaking. The audience seemed to give a better reception to Keane, but just about everyone there knew the lyrics to Run and belted out the last little bit of the song while the band played backup. Every song Snow Patrol played was ultra-catchy and very rocking, two things which really didnt carry over to the album. The album has it's moments, Snow Patrol live were a thrill from start to end.

3 amazing bands in 2 days... Now I gotta wait till September for Muse to tour... *howl...*
