The acting in all the movies thus far is very 1930s. I like it.

WRONG. Watch the making of AOTC or TPM. When interacting with CGI characters there was always a placeholder there to react with; most of the time the voice actor (save Frank Oz). When Anakin and Obi-Wan are in the speeder during the Coruscant chase they had a TV in front of them projecting an anamatic of what they would be "seeing" had they actually been flying through the city. When Padme was attacked by a Geonosian and fell she interacted with a guy in a blue suit. That's still something to react to. Fighting General Grievous' bodyguards in Episode III, Ewan McGregor fought men in blue suits as well, interacting with the weapons that the CGI bodyguards would be using.

Whilst you are right, the whole bluescreen/greenscreen thing does account for some of the bad acting. There is no real feeling of world for the actors to immerse themselves in, "man in blue suit" is hardly a substitute to some exotic creature or a powerful droid with evil programming.

Although having said that, I don't believe the acting itself in the originals was a hell of a lot better, particuarly in ANH (which was directed by George funnily enough). It's the greater sense of reality in the originals makes those films much easier to swallow than the prequels.

EPISODE III TERNIAN REPORT: Genesis of Evil

Febuary 3 2005

Yoda walks down a long hallway that leads to the entrance of a room called the "Holding Office of the Supreme Chancellor." Two Imperial Guards block the room. As Yoda approaches lightning shoots from the hands of the Emperor. Yoda makes a subtle gesture and deflects the lightning; shocking the Imperial Guards into unconciousness.

"Your time is over! The Sith rule the galaxy! Now and forever!" says Sidious.

Suddenly, in Yoda's hand, a new creation is born from the Jedi that had secretly bonded themselves together over the last millenia - a blade of light. Yoda now has the weight of the Force behind him, since the Dark Side has revealed itself.

"At an end your rule is, and not short enough it was, I must say," replies Yoda.

Then, from a hidden place within his robe, Sidious pulls back the cloth and a small weapon falls into his hand.

When the blades meet, it is more than Yoda against Palpatine, more the millennia of Sith against the legions of Jedi; it is the expression of the fundamental conflict of the universe itself.

Light against dark.

With speed and veracity it moves closer to the huge Chancellor's Pod that occupies the middle of the room until the Jedi and the Sith are upon its great foundations. Suddenly, the pod begins to rise as the two combatants battle it out...

The Chancellor's podium continues to rise into the vast empty space of the Senate arena. In the middle of the Senate, bolts of lightning flash from the pod. Suddenly, delegation pods free themselves of the curving walls and slam throughout the chamber - some by the use of the Force, others by the control panels.

Sidious jumps onto one of the flying pods. Yoda goes to follow but is hit by a bolt of lightening and falls. Sidious, exhausted, looks down into the debris below, but Yoda is not to be seen.

Immediately, Sidious calls his Clone Intelligence and the Senate Building is stormed by his Imperial Army.

Define rock? Rock like TPM? Or rock like ESB?
I can't think of anything to put here right now.

Rock like none of the other prequels, at least ;)

One can only hope.

I'll only consider the fact that it might have actually rocked after I leave the theater. This of course, only if I don't walk out in the middle because of suckage.

What's up with Kashyyyk? I thought the whole planet was a giant forest... That looks like a field... Or did he decide to change THAT too?

The CGI trees clearly haven't been added yet to obscure the pretty background plate which is REAL and was photographed in New Zealand.

Well, the earth isn't one big desert, or a big forest, or an arctic environment completely. Is it? Why can't planets have climates?

I think it looks more like Vietnam or China.

And Kashyyyk is still a big forest, didn't you learn about different biomes in middle school? The battle on that planet takes place in fields, forests and lagoons. The main Wookie city is one huge tree, and I mean huge.

Naboo was the first planet to have different climates. The thing is though, look at other planets in our solar system. They have only one climate.

Im gonna be all giggling and having butterflies in my belly when Anakin and Obi-Wan fight.

EPISODE III TERNIAN REPORT: PADME'S STORY :: But Can She Be Trusted?

Feburary 6 2005

PADME'S STORY

After Palpatine's kidnapping, he immediately returns to the Senate and announces the establishment of Regional Governors across the galaxy. However, this ia a move not welcomed by many Senators since the orders for the governors comes directly from Palpatine - not the Senate.

Two influential members of the Senate decide to act against the Chancellor. Senator Bail Organa and Senator Mon Mothma decide to pull together the Star Systems that are opposed to Palpatine's new dictatorship.

One influential senator that is mentioned is Senator Amidala of Naboo. However, Bail and Mon Mothma, and other senators, are unsure whether or not she is to be trusted. Her alignment with Palpatine's home planet of Naboo is a cause of concern to them.

They decide to have a meeting with Senator Amidala where Amidala discusses the move against the Chancellor. After a short while, Amidala agrees to join their cause.

EPISODE III TERNIAN REPORT: PADME'S STORY :: A Motherly Intuition

Febuary 7 2005

In the bedroom of Padme's Coruscant Apartment, Anakin and Padme share a tender moment, embracing and sharing a kiss.

Padme takes Anakin's flesh hand and presses it against her belly.

"He keeps kicking," says Padme.

"He?" Anakin says suprised. "I thought you'd ordered your medical droid not to spoil the surprise."

"Oh, I didn't get this from Emdee. It's my..." Padme smiles, "...motherly intuition."

Anakin feels another kick and laughs.

"Motherly intuition, huh?" he questions. "With a kick that hard? Definitely a girl."

----

Nothing really important here, but it's something nonetheless. I like how the rebellion is initially unsure of Padme's allegiance, adds a new element that I wouldn't have thought of. I'm not sure about the second report, mainly how I feel about the dialogue. It's a sweet moment, but hopefully it won't be acted out the same way a la the fireplace scene.

EPISODE III TERNIAN REPORT: PADME'S STORY :: Invasion!

Febuary 7 2005

PADME'S STORY :: Part 3 Of 4

"As a practical matter, as of this morning, the Senate no longer exists." Mon Mothma, Revenge of the Sith

The Senate no longer has control.

Senator Mon Mothma and Senator Bail Organa have begun to form alliance; an organisation.

"She is intelligent, principled, extremely articulate, and she has the heart of a warrior." Mon Mothma, Revenge of the Sith

After a small meeting in Bail's office, Mon Mothma and Bail discuss two names to lead a petition against the Chancellor; Terr Taneel and Amidala. Mon Mothma wants Amidala, although Bail is unsure of her choice.

"How sure can you be that she will stand with us, and not with him?" Bail Organa, Revenge of the Sith

The Regional Governors Decree has begun.

"Alderaan has no armed forces; we don't even have a planetary defense system!" Bail Organa, Revenge of the Sith

Hundreds of governors with large security forces made up of thousands of clones are being dispatched around the galaxy. Amidala is not happy; it is a memory of the Federation's control of Naboo.

In a meeting in her Coruscant Apartment, Mon Mothma offers the opportunity for Amidala to lead a petition against the rule of the Chancellor. With two thousand signatures, Mon Mothma and Bail hope to stop the Chancellor from taking away more of the democracy of the Republic with a showing of solidarity from the Senate.

Amidala is happy to lead but has one condition:

"I think we should consult the Jedi." Amidala, Revenge of the Sith

But who does she trust?

There is only one answer for her, an old friend; Master Kenobi.
