can you not see the HOLY CRAP amount of foreshadowing that lucas put into 1&2? Sid = Palp but in different pants

though, i can see him going and making Sid != palp by some big thing, and sid takes over palp's body or something just to throw us all for a loop

If you look at a deluxe figure of Palpatine coming out for the E3 toys then you'll know the final "truth" of the whole Palpy/Sidious issue.

A disappointing and predictable end to what could have been a good twist.

Yes... because Emperor Palpatine in RotJ wasn't the same Palpatine from the new movies, nor was he played by the same actor.

EPISODE III TERNIAN REPORT: Mustafar & Utapau

February 26 2005

MUSTAFAR

There is a stronghold (secret bunker) on Mustafar, worth a fortune, as Gunray says, and able to withstand an attack of ten thousand Jedi, as Grievous puts it. From it's command center all battle droids in the galaxy may be deactivated - and they are, as a matter of fact, exactly one hour before Vader's arrival (this means the Clone Wars are over). There is also an automated lava mine built by Techno Union to draw precious metals from liquid stone.

When Anakin arrives San Hill is the first to be killed, followed by Shu Mai, then Rune Haako, Wat Tambor and finally Nute Gunray.

UTAPAU

* The Boga dies heroically: she takes all the shots from clones upon herself, protecting Obi-Wan. Together they fall down, into the ocean at the bottom of the sinkhole.

* Grievous's home planet was Kalee. He was injured in a shuttle crash and the Sith had the Geonosians create his shell for him. Count Dooku himself trained the General in how to use a lightsabre.

* Grievous is on the tenth level, as told from Tion Medon. The Utapau people are held hostage.

* R4-G9 flies Obi-Wan's starfighter off planet, so that no one knows Kenobi is still on the planet.

* The city is powered by Windmills.

* Obi-Wan uses the Force to get a wrangler to let him use Boga.

* Kenobi is surrounded by Grievous, his guards, and one hundred battle droids on level ten. Kenobi strikes and takes out one of the four guards, slicing it in half. He duels the other three.

* Obi-Wan uses an electrostaff at one point against Grievous

What's a Boga?
2005-02-27, 9:34 AM #329
Lizard-type creature that Obi-Wan rides on Utapau.

I'm not sure I know what a vibro weapon is, but the electrostaff is the weapon General Grievous' bodyguards use to block lightsabers. So I imagine Obi-Wan uses it against Greivous to block Grievous' lightsabers.

EPISODE III TERNIAN REPORT: Separated at Birth

March 1 2005

"To protect you both from The Emperor, you were hidden from your father when you were born." Ben Kenobi, Return of the Jedi.

After the birth of the twins, and the death of Padme, the future of the twins is discussed by Bail, Yoda and Obi-Wan.

Bail Organa offers to adopt Leia and the Jedi Masters agree.

Obi-Wan Kenobi is against keeping the children together. He hopes that even if one of them is found by The Sith, maybe the other will survive.

However, Yoda has a specific direction for their training.

"Jedi training, the sole source of self-discipline is not, " he says. "When right is the time for skills to be taught, to us The Living Force will bring them. Until then, wait we will, and watch, and learn."

"What of the boy?" asks Bail.

"Cliegg Lars still lives on Tatooine, I think - and Anakin's stepbrother... Owen, that's it, and his wife Beru, still work the moisture farm outside Mos Eisley..." replied Obi-Wan.

"As close to kinfolk as the boy can come," Yoda says approvingly. "But Tatooine, not like Alderaan it is - deep in the Outer Rim, a wild and dangerous planet."

"Anakin survived it," Obi-Wan said. "Luke can, too..."

But... there's no real cinematography... it's blue screened Ewan and Hayden pasted on a CGI background.

That doesn't matter. Cinematography deals with framing, lighting and duration of shots, to think that the cinematography of a shot ends in pre-production is far from true. If you were to judge movies like Lord of the Rings before the digital elements were added, you would think the cinematography was terrible, but almost every shot is like a painting.

2005-03-01, 2:48 PM #337
I certainly see where you're coming from. And I agree with what you said about Lord of the Rings, but that was location and studio/set shooting with digital elements added in afterwards. The shots were still framed traditionally through the lens of a camera.

The shot of the Temple is completely fabricated. And with the tool of digital filiming along with the limited size of sound stages and studios, Hayden and Ewan probably weren't shot at that distance, with that framing. They were probably shot closer up, then later shrunk and pasted into the temple setting.

Of course, the framing of RotS still requires a great deal of thought and input from the director. But it is handled almost completely digitally and in post-production, I just don't think you could comfortably label it as cinematography.

It's basically like comparing painting to photography.

uhm... no.. either way it's still cinematography. it's quite simple. you're just making it too hard thinking that adding things outside what the actual camera filmed somehow makes it not.

Dialogue from Episode III:

YODA
My failure, this was. Failed the Jedi, I did.

*

YODA
A moment, Master Kenobi. In your solitude on Tatooine, training I have for you. I and my new Master.

OBI-WAN
Your new Master?

YODA
Yes. And your old one...

*

MON MOTHMA
All right. Then Terr Taneel would be my next choice. And, I
think, Amidala of Naboo.

BAIL ORGANA
Padme? I am not sure.

MON MOTHMA
You know her better than I do, Bail, but to my mind she is exactly
the type of Senator we need. She is intelligent, principled, extremely
articulate, and she has the heart of a warrior.

BAIL
She is also a longtime associate of Palpatine. He was her ambassador during her term as Queen of Naboo. How sure can you be that she will stand with us, and not with him?

MON MOTHMA
There's only one way to find out.

WTF are you talking about?

The Emperor from ESB was different than RotJ, but it's the same guy in RotJ and the new ones.

2005-03-01, 8:01 PM #341
I think he's referring to the character, not the actor. Jedigreedo was just commenting on Palpatine's "transformation" into what we know of in the OT and how it could have been really neat to put a twist behind it.

The Actor in ESB was a woman, with a guy voice over. When the OT DVD's were released, Ian McDirmand replaced the image in ESB.

Still haven't decided if I'll see a midnight screening, or take the morning off from work. Decisions, decisions :D

Hell, this is the last chance you'll have to see a midnight showing of a Star Wars movie. I'd say go for it ;)

I'm not seeing a midnight showing after the last time. Bloody hardcore fans shouting "Whoo!", applauding madly every five seconds, and laughing hard at everything that comes out of Yoda's mouth. Some people might enjoy the "atmosphere" of it all, but it just pisses me off.

Hayden isn't in the RotJ credits either, I think both Ian and Hayden are credited in the DVD credit bloop reel. Credits are funny things, and need to abide to all sorts of rules. It might be a Motion Picture Guild condition or something where actors need to remain credited even if they've been removed.

QFT. I'm going to see it the morning after the midnight premiere at about 10AM. I did that with movies over the summer and the theatres are practically empty then.

I'll more than likely see the film in the first week, but not right away. I might go down to London for the film and see it at the Odeon in Leicester Square. I saw Alien when it was re-released there, and it was awesome (despite seeing it many times before). Seat prices are bloody expensive (a tenner a ticket, twelve quid for the royal circle), but for a film like this, it's definately worth it.

EPISODE III TERNIAN REPORT: S.O.S Invisible Hand

March 2 2005

On the bridge of the Invisible Hand, the situation is getting rough. Anakin and Obi-Wan have just chopped up the Magna Guards, Super Battle Droids, and Droidekas when Grievous decides it's time to say goodbye.

"I am sorry I don't have time to fight you." says the General. "It would have been an interesting match but I have an appointment with an escape pod and you... YOU have appointments with death."

Grievous shoots a hook into a panel support, ignites the electrostaff, and throws it at the viewport. The transparisteel window is broken and a huge gust of wind blows the general out in space. Emergency shutters seal the bridge tight.

Using a cable and his magnetized feet/claws on the outer hull, Grievous crawls to the external hatch of the only bridge escape pod.

Unfortunately, Grievous ejected the rest of the escape pods before leaving - which is why Anakin has to land the crumbling cruiser on Coruscant; there is no other option.

Wow, looks like I gotta watch a stupid show to see a preview worth seeing. Sometimes you gotta take a bullet for the greater good.
I can't think of anything to put here right now.
