I consider Baldurs Gate 2 and Planescape: Torment to be tied for the spot of my favourite games ever.

Thanks Jep.

What about the sidequests in Mass Effect 1, do they have a significant impact and/or will you see effects to them in Mass Effect 2? I guess this might be a vauge question since there are so many sidequests.

Not a real major impact.
Romance plot is a big one, but more for ME3 then ME2. A couple sidequests get mentioned here and there.

Wow, the Collector ship really wasn't the playground of frustration I'd heard it was. Or maybe I'm getting better. I don't know.

I gotta say, I'm hitting gaming jackpot lately. After Mass Effect 2, I tackled Assassin's Creed II. I just can't believe how much they improved over the first. Not just in gameplay mechanics and mission variety but in the overall storytelling. Less meaningless trips out of the Animus (only the meaningful stuff is seen), and Ezio's story is just brilliant and well portrayed. The cutscenes and the lift breathed into each character really surpassed most of gaming today. And of course, Ezio himself is a hell of a character. The two DLC addons were great too.

Now I'm starting Uncharted (1) which is also a really good experience. I love the gameplay, setting and facial animations.

AC2 was indeed great, I hope you got all of the items/glyphs or you missed out on some big info in the story.

I like the uncharted games, but they're pretty generic to me. It's just a modern day indiana jones with less whip action.

I'll be spending most of my night tonight playing Heavy Rain... cant wait.

I did get all the Codex and the Glyph. I didn't bother with the feathers (though I know it gives a cape and you hear your mom talk again), or completing all side assassination/beat-up/racing quests. I really loved this game and will be playing it again. As I said before, Ezio is one hell of a character.

As for Uncharted, I haven't played many games à la Tomb Raider/Indiana Jones in the last several years (last Tomb Raider game was Tomb Raider 2, and Indiana Jones was Indiana Jones and the Infernal Machine). Plus I really like the character, and top that with the fact that he reminds me of Malcolm Reynolds from Firefly, and he's voiced by my favorite voice actor (Nolan North) and you've got a winning combination. It seems very short though, which is a shame.

Mass Effect 1 and 2 are easily my favorite games of all times, along with Fallout 3, Morrowind, and old school point and click games. Few games are quite as memorable to me.

Has anyone here tried going full paragon/renegade and choosing Morinth instead of Samara?
2010-02-23, 1:50 PM #415
I was full on evil with eyes red of fires of hell and flames pouring from. wounds on my face. I chose Morinth. It was nothing special. A few extra lines of dialogue from some of the crew, no real change to gameplay.
2010-02-23, 2:29 PM #416
Gameplay isn't the part that concerns me, it's the extra story bits.
2010-02-23, 2:35 PM #417
I obviously don't know what effect (if any) it may have on the sequel, but it didn't affect much of anything in this game. I think Joker and Chambers have an extra line or two, and Morinth talks to you a little bit, but there are only three dialogue options, and they loop (like the doctor, it's always the same question, and always the same response). At the end you can try to bang her, but you end up like Nef and have to reload a save game.

I just started the suicide mission and I was thinking, thank god for Mass Effect. It really makes up for the lack of a great Star Wars game in what seems like forever.
2010-02-23, 9:26 PM #419
Mass Effect to me, Is pretty much what I wish a Star Trek game would be.
Bioware could probably make a hell of an ST game if anyone would let them try.
2010-02-23, 9:35 PM #420
That would be a great day in history for video games. I am debating whether to start my second playthrough right away, or maybe give KOTOR another run after this. Then again, I have been neglecting Dragon Age as well...

Damnit I love BioWare.
2010-02-23, 9:52 PM #421
I'm probably going to start a KOTOR run too, but man.

Game over. Wow.

BioWare gets it done on such a spectacular level.

Based on my squad choices, I saw Jack and Mordin laying motionless as the Collectors moved in during the last cut-scene. I assume they did not survive?
2010-02-23, 11:17 PM #423
Pretty much.
Pissed Off?

Huzzah, the Hammerhead is coming in late march with 5 new missions and a new heavy weapon. Sounds good to me.

Free for the win, but it still looks like a crappy vehicle... I like driving on the ground better. Yeah the Mako wasn't perfect, but it was fun in combat situations.

Haha, it does seem like this series could be the 'next' star wars. I mean, if they made movies of this, in the hands of the right director... magic could happen.

true dat.

but i think it would only work if they played it out as someone who was 50/50 paragon/renegade so that you please the goodie two shoes crowd, while also making the character a badass.

thats how i always played it anyway. also, shepard in the movie should be female, i think.

There was nothing wrong with the Mako and really nothing wrong with most of the planetary sequences in ME1.

The PROBLEM was the terrain. Some of it was so STUPIDLY steep that you couldn't get the Mako over it. I frequently had to drudge through various mountain paths just to get to some damn beacon. It was really absurd. Who the **** controlled the parameters for the terrain generation?? Did they seriously not do any play testing in those sequences?

For the few bits of terrain that were mostly flat or at least small hills, they were FINE.

The truck bits were fine, it was the on-foot parts that were boring. There were only two variants - the mine and the merc base. Every damn mine looked exactly the same. Every damn merc base was exactly the same.
2010-02-27, 3:13 AM #437
Steven: You forgot number three, the "research facility".

And Emon is right. I've been replaying the original for the past week or so and it's definitely the mountains that cause the problems. It surprised me, to be honest, because I remembered the whole planetside aspect sucking somewhat.

And yay for free and awesome DLC :D

Cerberus Network is such a great Anti-Piracy measure, even though all of it''s stuff will probably be uploaded on PB or whatever.
