Me too.

I did the bartender thing too - amusing.

Also, I enjoyed hearing about Conrad's unfortunate demise over the news station. A train job, haha.

I just finished the game. Why did Mordin have to die? He was one of the best characters!

Cause you didn't finish someones loyalty quest.
2010-02-18, 8:44 PM #326
Mordin can randomly die, it seems. Happened to me so I reloaded and he made it when I played the level again.
Pissed Off?
2010-02-18, 8:54 PM #327
Huh, I played it through twice with no deaths, except the first time when I lost my crew (had loyalty quests to do post-IFF)
2010-02-19, 1:05 AM #328
I've read that Mordin's Omni-Tool upgrade might factor in to keeping him alive. Not sure just how true that is, though.

Having said that, I wonder if Jack's L5x implant upgrade helps her as well? For if you use her as your biotic specialist...
2010-02-19, 1:34 AM #329
I understand that all of the squadmate upgrades figure into keeping those squadmates alive. Mordin has a better chance with the omni-tool upgrade, Jack is better off with the L5x, Grunt with the brick-shaped shotgun, and Legion with the sniper rifle of doom.

No, I did all the loyalty quests.

Well ****, I'll have to replay it since I don't want him dead for ME3. I didn't bother to do the lame omni-tool upgrades that only seemed to affect hacking and ****.

There are several factors that can factor into any character's death, but none of them can die randomly. If you did all loyalty quests, all upgrades, etc. the likely factor is that you picked "We better hurry" instead of "A team must guard the rear". By doing so, you turn the final event into a sort of time trial. The longer you take to kill the final boss, the more of your team mates die. If you pick the other option and give a speech, you'll be fine.

At least, thats what I gathered.

I didn't do any squad mate upgrades, just the ship.

Okay, I'm on playthrough #2, and STILL no conrad in the bar. WTF? He's just NOT there.

Are you playing from an ME1 savegame? It might have to do with how you treated him back then.
2010-02-19, 7:53 AM #335
I was nice to the turd. I've heard it doesn't matter what you do to him, he always assumes you shoved a gun in his face.... but since I've yet to see him.

I recently discovered that it counts as being in a romance if you even talk to the person involved once and get the scene before Ilos in the original game. Which is annoying, because I only talked to Ashley for the background story and turned down her offer of "company" to try and avoid this. Didn't even get the achievement and she's still told me she loves me! I wonder how bad these reported "consequences" of "cheating" will be in Mass Effect 3?
2010-02-19, 8:18 AM #337
I don't think it's going to matter. Liara (my romance from ME1), while she was obviously still attached, isn't really going to stay with Shepard. As for Ashley, well... I heard she's a ***** on Horizon no matter what... so who cares?

She is, but she sends you a somewhat sappy email afterwards. But yeah, I doubt it'll be game changing in the extreme.
2010-02-19, 2:58 PM #339
"Y...you! You were dead!"
*dramatic step forward and pause*

"I got better."

Cracked me up. This game is immensely more fulfilling playing with an imported character, too. Third play through and still not bored is a good sign with a 60+ hour game.
2010-02-19, 2:59 PM #340
Who was that with?
2010-02-19, 3:04 PM #341
Something like:

Joker: It'll be better than the good old days.
Shepard: Tell me about it. I died.
Joker: Yeah you're such a downer.

:XD:

Nassana Dantius on Illium. She thinks you're the assassin coming for her at first.

(that was to Tibby, obviously)
2010-02-19, 3:06 PM #343
Oh right.
That entire mission is badass, did you notice the corpse fall through a vent?
2010-02-19, 3:17 PM #344
Didn't catch that. Was it the part where two mercs are arguing over who is going to investigate a noise?
2010-02-19, 3:23 PM #345
its right after you go up an elevator and there is the renegade interrupt where you push that merc out a window

Ah, something to look forward to when I start my renegade Shepard to take through the trilogy in conjunction with my paragon...

Have them fight at the end.

Unlikely.

All the people who didn't romance anyone in ME2 are going to rip Bioware's head off if the ME1 romances just fizzle out in the third game.

Each character has a "squishy" factor that determines how good they are at digging in for battles of attrition. Characters like Grunt and Garrus with a low squishy factor are more likely to survive if you leave them to guard the gate, whereas relatively weak characters like Tali and especially Mordin are more likely to bite it while you're fighting Ahnuld.

Ahnuld?

Ohhhhh.
I took Tali and Garrus for that, they both kicked *** and lived.

So after doing Jack's loyalty quest, I broke up the cat fight between her and Miranda. I sided with Miranda because I am trying to get in her pants, and now Jack is no longer loyal. I don't suppose there was any way around this.
2010-02-19, 6:28 PM #353
Try talking to her.
Paragon option has them both loyal. :smug:
2010-02-19, 6:33 PM #354
I guess my paragon is not high enough. The paragon and renegade dialog options are both unavailable. So it's not lost then, I can still be friends with the psycho-*****.
2010-02-19, 6:34 PM #355
Honestly I never liked her, felt like needless edginess for me.
But then I played her mission which fleshed the character out a bit, so I don't exactly hate her just... not my favorite.
2010-02-19, 6:38 PM #356
I agree, I did gain some respect for her after blowing up her childhood home. Her power in combat makes up for her obnoxious tweaker personality.

I've played through twice and not had enough paragon to defuse it either time--I tried it with 75% paragon in this, my third playthrough, and it still wasn't high enough. So I reloaded and now I'm basically postponing Jack's loyalty mission till after the IFF mission, because I'm trying to get a 100% alive playthrough.

Also, in my experience you have to have like 100% paragon to convince Jack or Miranda to like you again after you **** it up the first go-round.

You hvae to have a really high Paragon count. You can fix it later by talking to Miranda.

I sided with Jack. Miranda lived even though she isn't loyal.

I brought Tali and Thane as my squad the entire mission. Had Mordin escort the doctor back to the shuttle (the rest of the crew was dead because I didn't know that the more time taken after they're abducted, the more of them will die). I made Legion my specialist, Grunt my distraction, and Samara as my team-2 leader/my shield. Got everyone to hang back and protect our backs.

I didn't get the upgrades for Grunt and Legion as I wasn't aware of their importance. Both died. Aside from that, everyone else lived. Wasn't too happy that Legion died.

So anyway, like I said earlier, don't do anything after the IFF mission aside from Legions loyalty mission - you'll lose crew members. I did all the side missions after the IFF and everyone died.
2010-02-19, 8:08 PM #359
I'll keep that in mind for round two. By my understanding then, is it a full on assault on the Collectors after the IFF mission, that is, should I tie up all my loose ends and side quests before I pursue it (as it just became available)?
2010-02-19, 8:48 PM #360
Do them all except legions, you have 1, or two, missions after the IFF before they come.
However bringing Legion to Talis' opens up some neat dialogue, but that's the way to go 100% save.
