FIFA World Cup 2006 in Germany

I was very impressed with Japan with their first 45 mins of the first half (1-0 for Japan), but once Brazil got back on form, I wasn't suprised at the final score line of 4-1. Still, looking at the highlights of the Aussie game, those Croatians seemed to be playing extremely dirtily, and I'm glad Australia got through.

The second goal was just offside. Also the bundle in the box after the Croatian keeper was holding the ball was a bit iffy, could have got some boys in trouble.

Yeah we were a bit lucky with some decisions, but a bunch went against us too. There was a blatant handball in the box in the second half that wasnt given as a penalty.

Anyways after Australia's treatment in the first two games I say we deserved some good decisions :)

2006-06-24, 12:11 PM #412
No kidding. I'd already written Mexico off before kick off, but it looks like they're going for it.
2006-06-24, 12:14 PM #413
It's 1:1 already, and they're only 13 minutes into the game!

One of these teams, if not both, will score three goals today. That's a given.

Let's go Argentina!
If you think the waiters are rude, you should see the manager.

As a neutral, I believe in supporting the underdog. And so,

Go! GO! ME XI CO !

Heinze got off lightly just now. Easily could've been a red card.
2006-06-24, 12:53 PM #416
i also agree, MEXICO FOR THE FIGHT!
2006-06-24, 1:00 PM #417
Screw Mexico. As a US fan I have to hate them.

Yep.

Argentina just had the game-winning goal taken away from them. I understand that it's better to call offside if you're not sure, but the linesman should have been sure.

who cares? it all evens out, argentina should have been down to 10 men for the whole second half because of that evil foul in the 44th minute.

the ref has been bias as hell in argentinas favour.
2006-06-24, 2:05 PM #424
****.

Brilliant, brilliant goal. I don't know if I've seen better in this tournament.

Please. They guy at least made a pay on the ball. Yeah, it was a hard foul, but it wasn't waranting a red card.

If he's talking about Heinze, which I think he was, then because he was the last defender it's a red regardless.

I've only been catching glimpses, though, so if I missed something else then...sorry :P
2006-06-24, 2:31 PM #429
he went in studs up, a good few seconds after the ball was off of his feet... it was a blatant red, it even looked malicious as far as i could see.
2006-06-24, 3:06 PM #430
It's only a red if you go in with both feet studs up. And yeah, the last defender thing would come into play, but that's usually only a red if the foul is from behind and you're the last defender.

I was disappointed with Argentina/Mexico match. Damn Argentina for scoring in extra time, wanted penalty shootouts.
2006-06-24, 8:35 PM #432
I really would have expected Argentine to smoke Mexico.

Seeing that left-footed volley was well worth missing out on a penalty shootout. Seriously, what a goal.

It was absolutely about the last defender thing. He was through on goal and got taken out - red card, no questions.

That goal was absolutely stunning. I was supporting Mexico as the underdogs, but with a winner like that, you can't deny Argentina the right to go through.

I was thinking about the one where the defender gave it away then took the player out. If there was another one, I missed it.

Yeah, Heinze. Basically, he gave it away, and the Mexican player received it. When the Mexican tried to take it past Heinze, he got fouled. Since Heinze was the last defender when he committed the foul, it's automatically a red. There was a defender some yards away to the left, although he had no chance of making up the ground before the Mexican could get a shot away. That may have been why it was only a yellow, though; the referee might have judged Heinze as not being the last defender.

Anyway, looking forward to England later :D It's make or break time, now.
2006-06-25, 5:09 AM #439
Nope, that was the one I was thinking about. Heinze may not have been literally the last defender, but the Mexican guy had a clear chance to get a shot in before the other defender got near to him. Red card.

Looks like it's going to be a great game today, even though I'm pretty sure who the winner will be, haha.
