Brilliant, brilliant save from Ricardo. Hang in there, Angola!

Yeah, it was. Angola will be thrilled with a tie.

i saw most of the Angola game and I'm very happy for them, especially the keeper, on that performance he should have quite a few job offers coming in, even if they are lower divison teams.

Heh, some friends went outside shortly after the second half started, because the game was too boring for them.
I was really thrilled when Angola managed to pull of the tie with only 10 players.
Sorry for the lousy German

Big games for Group E tonight with the Czech Republic likely to cement a round 2 birth with a victory over Ghana, and a must-win or draw-and-pray match for the USA against Italy. Portugal are also looking for a guaranteed place in round 2, although I give the Iranians a chance.

Spork's predictions:

Portugal 1 - Iran 1
Czech Republic 3 - Ghana 0
Italy 1 - USA 0

Let's see how wrong I can be :D

Well Portugal just beat Iran 2-0, 1 of those goals from a penalty. A lot of bad play, with fouls and cards flying everywhere, but the pace really picked up in the 2nd half. The Iranians played a pretty good match, with a few really nice chances, but the Portuguese definately had them outgunned! Looking forward to the next two matches! :D

Oh, and keep your eyes on Portugal's Ronaldo. He has some m4d sk1llz. :ninja:

Ghana's win is great for the US chances!

Amazing win by Ghana! If not for their constant offsides and some amazing Czech goalkeeping, they could have quite easily had a 5-0 win over Czech. Ghana's speed and energy was incredible, they looked like they could have kept going for hours!

Ghana vs Petr Chech - what an entertaining game. The ball was just bouncing from one end of the pitch to the other. Ghana played exceptionally well for the most part, inventive and stylish up front and a little scrambly but effective in defence.

Alright, time for the US to take the field against Italy.

Itlay goes up 1-0, the US gets an own goal to tie the game, and now Italy is down a man because of De Rossi's vicious elbow to McBride. Go US!

2006-06-17, 12:32 PM #297
That De Rossi had the gall to try and protest that challenge was despicable. Go US!
2006-06-17, 12:38 PM #298
If Italy gets nothing else out of this, at least they've learned that you don't get to elbow people in the face.

Bull**** red card on Mastroeni.

Terrible, terrible call on Mastroeni. The ref should be ashamed/shot.

Bad call. Card should've been yellow.
2006-06-17, 1:05 PM #302
Okay, forget about ashamed. Now it's just shot.
If you think the waiters are rude, you should see the manager.
2006-06-17, 1:05 PM #303
This ref is a ****ing moron. The game is going to be called because there won't be enough players in about ten minutes.
Pissed Off?
2006-06-17, 1:05 PM #304
Another red card. This is just terrible.
2006-06-17, 1:24 PM #305
What a shambles. Another Godawful call denies the US from going 2-1 up.
2006-06-17, 1:26 PM #306
The call was legit, after looking at the replay. McBride was offside and tried to play the ball. You can't screen the goalie from an offside position either.

2006-06-17, 1:30 PM #307
The offside call was fair. I'm just impressed that we're playing a man down and have still had more chances than Italy. If this game were being called fair, we'd be winning with no trouble.

2006-06-17, 1:31 PM #308
Enh, I'll be honest, I'm not even paying attention anymore. I was under the impression that the goal was disallowed on account of the Italian player on the floor. Really just playing PES5 to elevate my opinion of football to it's previous level.

Fantastic save from Keller just now, though!
2006-06-17, 1:32 PM #309
That it was.

Yeah. This game should be 10 aside right now, although I think Pope's first card was pretty iffy.

That's generous. We should probably have our full 11.

Game's over. We got robbed.

Yeah. The US did well to hold the tie and press the attack the entire second half.

Hopefully now Ghana will fall to the U.S. and the Czech will be back in form and beat Italy. Even then, the U.S. isn't going to get past the first game of the second round. U.S. vs. Brazil is no contest.

Italy has to beat the Czechs and the US has to beat Ghana for the US to advance.

Oops, my bad. That would be the easiest way. Though if Czech beat Italy, US can still advance if they beat Ghana by 4 or more goals based on goal differentials.

dammit I missed the USA-Italy game and it sounds as if it'll be one of the most controversial this tournment.

It was pretty bad on the ref's part. He was terrible. This only makes Beckenbauer's complaint about cards that much more valid. The ref for this game was suspended by FIFA in 2002 for reffing irregularities and he couldn't work the 2002 World Cup. It should have been permament.

Yeah, but I doubt that would happen. It would be awesome if it did though. :P

Australia v Brazil tonight. If we can manage a draw it will be as good as beating them 5-0.

So very excited. The game starting at 2am and me having to get up for work at 7am could prove challenging, but eh I'll worry about that later...

Go to bed at 7pm, you'll be fine

I'm immensely excited about the game too, it could be great. Riding on the back of the Japan victory, and coming in to the whole tournament knowing they have nothing to lose, Australia should go all out.
