Good grief! I didn't expect France to beat Brazil again in a million years!

Alright then, we're down to the final 4. Tell me what your predictions are, and then tell me what you'd like to happen.

Predictions:
Germany wins
2nd France
3rd Portugal
4th Italy

What I'd like to happen:
Germany wins
2nd Portugal
3rd France
4th Italy

Most of the cards (on both sides) were terrible. The lack of some calls was also nasty.

France FTW.
Portugal 2.
Germany 3.
Italy 4. (they suck so much, they were just lucky they had only easy teams to play with, i mean ukrane? ...)

Pretty much the same here. The only one left who I'd be happy to see win is Germany.

My favorites were England, Holland, Spain, Australia, Switzerland, and Ivory Coast. Only England even made it to the quarters. :(

I think it will be a Germany - France final. The French will put all their defenders in the middle of field and the German attack will just go around. :ninja:

I just read that Beckham resigned as England captain. Who would you guys like to see take over? Personally, I'd choose either Terry or Gerrard. Terry because he's a rock, a commanding figure at the back line, and Gerrard because of his drive and passion. Neville might be experienced, but I don't think he's a good leader, and Rooney just doesn't have the discipline.

I hope Germany wins.

Also, what happened to Beckham during the match? I totally missed it, and just saw him sitting in the booth thing, with his leg injured (apparently).

I don't know too much about Terry, but I have been impressed with his performance on the backline. Wasn't he the guy that made that incredible bicycle kck save out of the English goal against Trinidad and Tobago? And Gerrard is also impressive. He was England's MVP in terms of goals in this WC (only 2 mind you), and he is a solid midfielder, good at attack and defense. Damn, that guy had some speed in the Portugal game. Did you see him sprint halfway across the field to catch up with Ronaldo?

I wonder just how different the game would have been if: 1) Michael Owen had still been in the tournament. 2) Wayne Rooney hadn't gotten sent off. 3) Sven had used a more conventional formation, such as 4-4-2, with some more power up front.

I also felt like Crouch kind of redeemed himself in this last game. In the group stages, I hadn't been too impressed with some of his performance, but he must have been a great boost of morale and confidence to a tiring English side in the Portugal game. Lennon, considering he's only had I think 4 internatonal appearances, was stellar against Portugal. Hargreaves was also excellent. It's a shame THeo Walcott, the "Secret weapon" didn't get to play in this, I actually think some of England's young and upcoming stars played better than the established ones .... such as good ol' "rubbish-in-front-of-goal" Lampard..... :ninja:

ACtually, I just read up on Lampard, and I feel both amazed and sorry for the guy - http://fifaworldcup.yahoo.com/06/en/w/player/185385_LAMPARD_Frank.html

Quote:
Voted England’s Player of the Year by supporters of the national team in 2004 and 2005 . . . He was England’s top scorer in the qualifiers for the FIFA World Cup™. . .

Quote:
For England, Lampard was on target in five of their ten Germany 2006 qualifiers and set the seal on a successful campaign with the winning goals in the final two fixtures against Austria and Poland.

Quote:
Lampard, who came second behind Ronaldinho in the 2005 voting for FIFA World Player of the Year, has worked hard to achieve his current status in the game.

and yet, in the actual world cup, he had 24 shots, only 11 of which were on goal, and none went in. Bad luck, or bad skill, I dunno, but it sucks for the guy and England. :gbk:

John Terry would be the best choice. He's still young and will be playing in the next World Cup, and he already captains Chelsea. Wayne Ronney is 20, which is way too young to be captain. He has to get his temper under control before he can take a leadership role.

No way could Rooney be captain. He's a petulant twerp. But, that's what I thought about Beckham after he got sent off during the '98 cup. He did a hell of alot of growing up, and I think he has been a solid captain for the past six years. I can't imagine Rooney ever being mature enough for it though, and I have a real issue with forwards being captain. From that position, you need to be thinking about your own game.

I can see that Terry would be a good choice, and I figure he probably will be chosen, but I personally would love to see Gerrard get it. He's so passionate and driven, and I think he's done a great job at Liverpool. He's got 47 caps and he's only 26, so he's got plenty of experience of playing for England, and plenty of years ahead.

It's awesome that a team can have two guys like that. One can be the alternate when the other isn't fit to play and so on. And you know everyone is going to respect both Terry and Gerrard.

The speculation is that Neville will continue as deputy captain. He's too old to take on full captaincy (and not good enough, IMO), but he's been subbing Beckham for a while, so I guess he knows his way around.

I'm not really familiar with the players outside of what I've seen in the World Cup, which hasn't been all the games, but what about somebody like Joe Cole? It seems like he has had a really productive World Cup. I'm not familiar with the club teams and the players' performances there, so forgive me if my suggestion is absolutely ridiculous.

He's a good player, but you want someone with leadership experience. Terry and Gerrard both captain their club teams, so they're the obvious choices.

Another argument is that a central defender should be an ideal capitain, as the whole game takes place in front of him - he gets to see everything. That said someone like Gerrard is hard to discount, for he is a bit good.

The hate the Germans have for the Dutch is only a fraction of how we Dutch feel about the Germans (when it comes to football). Haha :P
