They deserve to, I guess- it's torturous watching them play. But I hope they win, just to spite the people who want them to lose :D

I beg to differ :P Just wait, they'll pull through in the second half.

I was about to type "England suck in the second half" but they've just scored... ah well.

I can't believe Beckham puked :P

Still, I'm happy we've gone through. Although I know the players are going to catch hell from the papers tomorrow, ignoring the fact that Argentina (the favourites) were mostly outplayed by Mexico.

It's also nice to see Hargreaves playing well for once, and that Rooney lasted the entire match while still chasing everything he could. Carrick did a good job as a holding player too, allowing Gerrard and Lampard license to go forward, and I think that worked out better than the old system. Lampard was disappointing again, however. His form's been pretty bad since the start of the tournament.

Wow, what a mess. The Portugal-Netherlands game is out of control.

Pretty ugly game going on at the moment.
If you think the waiters are rude, you should see the manager.
2006-06-25, 1:41 PM #450
I'm not watching, so I only know Portugal are 1-0 up. What's been so bad about the game?
2006-06-25, 1:51 PM #451
Lots of cards. 16 total so far. There have been close the three fights. Lot's of bull**** from both sides. A 4th player has just been sent off.

Apparently, the Portugal/Holland game now has a record for the most cards in a single FIFA WC match. 3 reds and 15 yellows!

16 and 4  What a disgrace. I was hoping Holland wouldn't score just so that didn't go into extra time.

Let's go England. Beat those arrogant jerks.

OMFG the portugal - Holland game was FRIGGIN INSANE. jesus. talk about nuts.

but im glad portugal won, holland is gay anyway.
Pie.

Absolutely ridiculous. The coverage here had a shot in the final minutes of Deco and Van Bronckhorst (teammates at Barcelona, but playing for Portugal and Holland respectively), both having been sent off, sitting together and discussing how awful the ref was.

I was talking about the amount of cards this tournament with people in the pub today Apparently the record for reds in a tournament is 22, and as of yesterday we were at 19, so it's atleast 23 now, with 12 games still to play. But most of the replays I've seen have seemed to back up the majority of decisions (not sure about tonights game though!).

(oh yes, and yay England!)

I want England to do well, but to heck if they deserve to win another game. Some abysmal gameplay against Ecuador, so many missed opportunities. Portugal's going to wipe the floor with them if they play like that. Oh, and someone needs to shoot Lampard. :ninja:

No, he's right, Beckham's definately got some tendencies curvier than his free kicks.

Holland went down. 0-1

I don't think the Portugese deserved the win, but oh well. We didn't have a real champions team this time anyway.

I want to know why Van Nistleroy didn't play. It made no sense to me.

Because Kuyt is more of a team player than Van Nistelrooy, and also, he hasn't been functioning optimally.

I don't see how you can justify not playing one of the best strikers in the world though, especially when your team is down a goal, up a man, with time on your World Cup dreams quickly coming to an end.

I agree, but that was the reason given by coach Van Basten.

Also, they could change only one more player, and they needed that last replacement for extra time, in case it became 1-1.

Still have to tie the game in the first place.

Regardless, there's going to be a lot of fire in the Dutch papers tomorrow (Although I guess it is tomorrow in Europe now).

I don't mind our team getting kicked out of the World Cup really.

What i do mind, is the way it did. Damn referee gets paid per card I tell you.

Australia v Italy coming up in a few short hours. So very excited. I doubt we'll come even close to winning, but if we could somehow pull something special out of the bag....

A little bit over an hour to go and I'm already feeling sleepy. I'm going to get some coffee. If Italy score a goal in the first half I'm going to bed.
2006-06-26, 7:44 AM #479
I'm cheering for Aussie all the way.

After this match I'll stop caring about the WC until England plays again.
