I'm pretty sure I would rewatch Solo or Rogue One before rewatching TFA or TLJ.
2019-10-30, 12:56 PM #922
Rogue One is probably my least favourite.

I also disliked Gareth Edwards' Godzilla film for similar reasons; it just never made me care about any of the characters.
nope.
2019-10-30, 1:19 PM #923
Oh yeah the characters are v. not interesting :(

They weren't even colorful enough to be caricatures.
2019-10-30, 3:55 PM #924
Odd, seems like you'd be able to relate really well to that.

so the new Sonic the Hedgehog movie trailer is out. Where y'all at on this conspiracy theory?

2019-11-12, 9:44 AM #928
I couldn't care less about a Sonic movie but I thought it was hilarious that it was okay for the fans to be critical of that film but they're racist, misogynist, etc. when they are critical of cinematic masterpieces like The Last Jedi and Terminator Dark Fate.

There's been lots of this content on Reddit, aka 'advertising in memes: the platform'. So yeah, it's confirmed.

I guess is the new way to manufacture good will from your user base

Wow, I saw exactly the same sentence on 9gag. Although 9gag is pretty much just a big reddit repost.

jfc, it's no joke the most obvious astroturf campaign ever:

Every thread too doesn't have people meming along, just lots of people suspicious. I wonder how much Reddit charges for this service? It's gotta be good business to deceive your user base.

They "fixed" Sonic! They listened to us, and we should totally support them!

I hope this movie ****ing bombs.

I've successfully avoided paying attention to, well, anything really in the past few months (years?) so I didn't even know that there was a new Terminator film. Or a Sonic one, for that matter.

Sadly, still no sequel to Woody Woodpecker (2017), though.

Any of you guys see Parasite yet? It'd be a bit of an understatement to say I'm hearing good things.

I'm surprised the film is popular outside of Korea. I guess its themes resonate (haven't seen it yet.)

I do give a recommendation for the director's previous film of Memories of Murder. It also features the same actor as in Parasite (the father).

I randomly heard about and watched a documentary Grey Gardens.. to describe it loosely, it's about the cousin and aunt of Jackie O. They were once wealthy socialites living in a huge house in the Hamptons.. eventually losing family and all money for various reasons and turning into eccentric recluses and hoarders. It's just the most bizarre thing you'll ever see. Not up everyone's alley, but if you find that kind of thing interesting it's definitely going to work for you.

Kathleen Kennedy really knows how to agitate the fandom: "There’s no source material. We don’t have comic books. We don’t have 800-page novels."

Good executives can do a lot with what they have.

By contrast, Kathleen Kennedy doesn't even know what she has.
2019-11-21, 10:12 AM #945
Well, I think she wanted to remake what she had in her (or Her or HER) image but even if that isn't the case of all you had were six wildly successful films that demonstrated a wide range of what works and what doesn't work, you really wouldn't need any more than that. If course the irony is not lost on me, though. Throw out all of the books and comics and then complain that you don't have any... George Lucas must be rolling around in his grave.

Was watching a football game (a rare event) and I saw a trailer for Call of the Wild with Harrison Ford. Remember when films with animals looked super authentic? This trailer looked like a CGI mess to me.

To me, it's more offensive that she's complaining about having to be original.

Imagine how many books and games they could have sold if they turned something like the Thrawn trilogy into movies. Then every single comic book and book that involved said EU characters could be re-released.

Also, the whole idea of worrying about something being canon or not is so dumb. Movies deviate from their source material all the time, it's called artistic license. It's a lame excuse to say you couldn't draw on the EU because you wanted to just start over or something.
2020-01-21, 12:02 AM #952
What irks me the most is that they actually had plans for the Sword of the Jedi novels which would have featured a strong female character in the lead, would have been so far removed from the originals that they could have done just about anything with it and it would have fit into the established universe. They could have used them perfectly for new movies, especially because nobody knew what the Sword of the Jedi prophecy even meant. But I guess trying to work with the EU would have been too hard or something.

Sometimes I wonder whether I've been so conditioned to see fake CGI everywhere that I'm actually labeling something as fake that's been done for real.
But yeah, that trailer looks super fake.

My favorite part of the new movies was when Han and Leia named a kid after the nickname of some customer Han knew for 3 hours and Leia had never met.

What the hell for some reason I never realized "Ben" came from Ben Kenobi. How ****ing stupid.
2020-01-21, 9:44 AM #956
Eh, that's silly. Leia's adopted father was close with Obi-wan and probably told stories about how great he was. I named my son after my great grandfather who I barely knew, but he was nice to me when I was in trouble with my parents when I was a kid.
2020-01-21, 11:45 AM #957
Did you use his real name, or the alias he used when he was hiding from the man?

Eh, I never saw a birth certificate.

Just another in a big pile of annoying sentimentality in the sequels.
