Steam Release Celebration Level Contest Mega Thread
2009-11-07, 5:00 PM #361
Emon.. that rain looks amazing.. any way you could get me a snow adaption? :P
2009-11-07, 5:15 PM #362
Sure! It's basically the same COG with a different template for snow. You could optionally make the slow flutter around in the wind with a simple modification to the snow's class COG. :o

Also, automatically generated grass! I only have one grass 3DO right now, but I'll have more later:

Why don't more games use cog? That system is more flexible than pretty much anything, ever, from what I've seen you guys do with it. :psyduck:
DO NOT WANT.
2009-11-07, 6:48 PM #365
Cog is, itself, a pretty crummy language. But plenty of games use scripting just as powerful. Unrealscript is a great example.
2009-11-07, 7:18 PM #366
It just seems more powerful because you wouldn't normally do these things with other scripting engines. Such functionality is usually built into the game itself.

Playing around with a "Marvel Ultimate Alliance" kind of mode. Testing this in multiplayer.

Argh! Don't get too excited.

Oh and I already commented on the hub how much I adore Grismath's stuff. He has a unique feel to everything he creates.

The Darkness Jaded from what I've seen from posts and on the hub is going to be fantastic.

So I've begun to light my level. Im using dynamic lights for inside areas and large outside areas (seems to be working good so far) and then using just normal lighting to light areas in the caves and such. I'm pretty satisfied with the results so far. Level 1 is about 85% complete out of a planned 2 levels probably.

Looks awesome! Is that a cutscene I see?

Heh the quality of the ships and the stars is a sharp contrast to the planet... might wanna try and find some higher quality stars (should be easy enough), and the ships (there are probably a few on Massassi).

I have some really nice starfield textures from Space Noxx II if you want them.

There are a bunch of awesome goz and other models in the 3do section, maybe their zips have textures in them?
2009-11-09, 8:02 AM #384
The ISD is a GOZ 3do.

indeed.. there are 3 different sized models.. im using the smallest.
i dont think there is that much contrast.. i think it looks pretty good..except the default jk space texture (00starrs.mat) or whatever
2009-11-09, 10:35 AM #386
You could also use the models from the X-Wing Alliance Upgrade project. I got permission to use the Z-95 in TDJ. They're pretty chill and if you ask about on the forums I'm sure you can get permission, especially for another Star Wars project. They can be converted to 3DS and then to 3DO.

Also, I didn't know you were using JKEdit... your level is very impressive considering that.

What's so bad about JKEdit? I've only ever used JED/ZED and I'm not very good at it, never even seen JKEdit in action except for that screeny.
2009-11-09, 6:44 PM #389
We used to have a jkedit tutorials section but we took it down at some point (I think because they started hosting their own tutorials which were pretty good). jkedit isn't too bad, it's just a lot different. It started out really limited and it's still hard to do certain things, but it's much better now than it was when it first came out. You basically start out in a room and click surfaces, then you can cut them up or split them, select certain ones, and extrude. So you end up with pretty boxy levels a lot of the time. But clearly people are doing cool stuff with it judging by the screenshots. You should get a copy and check it out.

Not really, you just get a bunch of HOM in places where it shouldn't be.

The third number in the debug info is the number of visible adjoins. 128 is the limit.
