Steam Release Celebration Level Contest Mega Thread
2009-10-03, 5:34 AM #81
If I remember rightly, Friend14 successfully used it for terrain many many years back, before he started arguing about fysiks.

Also, whilst I was never one of the best COGgers out there, I discovered a tonne of neat little tricks back in the day that will come in handy here.

Light tests and skybox of my level, not going to showcase too much as it's far from complete enough for a showcase, but I figured I show off some light tests and the skybox. Level lit without the use of sector "Extra Light".

Very nice stuff. Makes me feel a little sad I've only made 1 JK level back in the day and left it that.

Extremely, extremely early compile. Been rusty with mapping because of busy life.

I'm going to push alot of polygons this time around because I assume people have better graphic cards to handle geometry (as oppose to 2003). I don't think Q3 engine likes that though.

Maybe I should use JA. :|

Don't worry, lets remember the rule; The better a level looks - the less chance it has of being released.

With that said, let me just take a photo of this amazing dflt.mat box I made earlier. Put a tiebomber in it and everything.

Hahahah guys, just today Goit found out about JED's texture stitching feature. He's been doing it by hand for 10 years!

Before that, he was using Notepad to make levels! :v:

2009-10-05, 7:18 PM #99
Geesh, he needs to go read some of the tutorials. Isn't texture stitching covered in the basics? Yep: http://www.massassi.net/basics/texture.htm
2009-10-05, 7:40 PM #100
GAH!

I must have stopped reading before the end there. If I had a time machine and could go back ten years, I'd have read that bottom paragraph - and who knows, I might have actually made Jedi Master Episode 3.

:(

But yeah. I've spent two thirds more time editing than I should have. Bloody hell. Give me a gun.

I know I probably don't stand a chance, but I thought I'd give it a shot.

Edit: 8 bit textures, jed 9.5.1 and normal JK engine. I am win.

I like the round triangle windows. I'll have to steal those for my level.

*******!
2009-10-05, 10:24 PM #104
On that note, how do you make round triangle windows?
COUCHMAN IS BACK BABY
2009-10-05, 11:06 PM #105
What kind of question is that? The same way you make triangle windows, but you cleave off the sides to make it round? I honestly don't know how to answer your question

That's just silly. There's only four levels of undo, ZED has like 200.

I was inspired to think about making a level for thins contest, so I downloaded ZED. That inspired me to think about doing more work on JKWorkshop.

[Edit: I got a teeny bit further than just thinking, too. I actually opened the code in Visual Studio.]

Was that when everyone was going to build a city block and then someone was going to compile them in to one huge Massassi City? I do remember that. Did anything ever come of it?
2009-10-06, 2:01 PM #115
I made a block for that! It was a water park with a working clock :awesome:

I realized that, if you are on a ship in as bad shape as the Leaky Bucket, it is a really bad idea to fire a rail detonator.

How, exactly, did this get so rusty floating around in space anyway?
