That song is so raunchy. And when I was 16ish the 16ish girls danced to it with such gusto. Even though the song was super dated even then, I'm not sure how lyrics like "'Cause I'm long, and I'm strong/And I'm down to get the friction on!" were totally ok for my Catholic school dances.

Anyway, chew on some screens of stuff I made around that time, actually, but would like to ship with my probable contest entry.

Brian, why is there a bunch of jed files in the project root? How do you even test this level?
"Nulla tenaci invia est via"
2009-12-14, 1:50 PM #610
Any time I am going to embark on a new big area or a risky change, I file -> save as a new jed file. This ensures I don't lose anything if I screw up. This habit originates from back when the undo was so crappy and limited that big changes were really risky. To walk around in the level, just open the latest file, use the episode editor to change the jkl file name to match the one you are testing, then it file, save jkl and test or whatever. However, the latest one likely isn't in a position to be tested due to the position of the walkplayer (close to where I'm working so it goes there when I open 3d preview). Just move the walkplayer over to a safe place in the "cliffs" layer before you save it.

Ah, that's why I like the Back-up feature! (I don't remember it from before but it's nice!)
"Nulla tenaci invia est via"
2009-12-14, 3:41 PM #612
haha I do that too. Every time I make a risky change, I save as [name][number].jed, where [number] starts at 00. For LoG 02, I finished the project at 92.

For LoG:Co-op, I had to change the [name] several times... :suicide:

I tried that. It appeared to do nothing. What did it do? (and if you say "it made a back up" I might just explode)

Okay, so it places a copy with some number after it in your_project/backup... Yeah, I suppose that will work. But you do realize I've been doing it this way for more than a decade right?
2009-12-14, 4:59 PM #615
It creates a folder called backup, and saves your backups, projectnameXX.jed

Now if it only had an Auto-back-up feature

Brian, I didn't know how to auto stitch for ten years... :D

- and the backing up is very, very handy. I mean, ZED just randomly creates adjoin errors sometimes for the hell of it anyway, so as long as that consistancy checker is clear click that backup button!

I call it the wrong thing. I think it's been mentioned on a few pages of this thread. Where you select a surface and stitch from that. I've only known about it for a month!

Since I've known about it I've created three huge levels. Funny that...

Yeah they are handy

2009-12-15, 12:13 AM #620
what do ; and ' do?
2009-12-15, 12:28 AM #621
They stitch textures across surfaces. There are some other hotkeys to do it, some shift keys I think, but those are easiest.

Select a surface, press ;, select an adjacent surface, press ' and the textures will align.

Pardon the in-editor shots... already tested it a crap load of times tonight.. didnt feel like loading it up in game again lol

Looks decent, I like the exterior. The ceiling texture in the last shot is really distracting
"Nulla tenaci invia est via"
2009-12-15, 12:52 AM #624
thats because its sky and its in the editor.. in game is scaled bigger and the horizon slides (sky moves).. look at the second shot for example

Lets keep it to the discussion ok..

Maybe if it actually looked like a sky I might think it was.

It takes 2 seconds to load your JK map in game

That's how all the stock jk skies look.. And I have to re-goo mine to test it.. Takes about 3 to 5 min to do so.. Had already done that a million times that night.. Didn't feel like doing it again
2009-12-15, 10:46 PM #628
I'm having a lot of difficulty deciphering the perspective in the second shot, MysteriousSith. I can't tell if the player (kyle?) is flying or if he's on a ledge. If he is indeed on a ledge you really need to make some kind of texture difference because as it stands the ground below him and the surface he is standing on blend in so much that it looks extremely unnatural.

lol, I think he's either force jumping or using the eriamjh cheat. Look at the stormies to the left. They're on the same level.

yeah im in fly mode lol... just thought i'd fly up there and get a good view of all those cliffs in that area
2009-12-16, 4:37 AM #631
Good cliff arch. You know what you're doing - random cleaving, two different textures. I suggest some rock 3dos using the darker rock texture scattered around on the snow. But looking good.

It's been a SP tradition that almost every custom snow level has some type of forcefield slash puzzle, with the player having to slash a few wires to get into the base. No pressure :D

Oh that puzzle is there already Goit :P
I have some rock 3do's i made.. but 3do's in my levels are never affected by the lighting.. so they'd stick out like a sore thumb :(
2009-12-16, 8:05 AM #633
Just put them in fully lit areas. You can have extra light on 3dos so select all surfaces of the edo and give them an extra light of say 0.9 and then they'll be fine :)

And I love puzzles so you get a big thumbs up.
