Thread of Oblivious Oblivion goodness
Am I the only one who thinks Oblivion's graphics aren't that amazing?
I know what you mean. They're are crap compared to Quake 7, and Half Life 4.

What's important is they are better than any other game currently released.

True true, but when you see Unreal Engine 3 shots, Oblivion is nothing to it. Albeit its lip synch is god damn awesome. Though Bethesda still had trouble with their faces. Some people are UUUUGLY!

Some people are ugly IRL :p
Moo.
2006-03-20, 12:20 PM #44
Thats for sure, but I meant the overall quality, say compared to Half-Life 2 faces (barney and the girl). But then again, this is an opinion based off seeing a handful of characters out of a 1000+ cast. :p

Yeah. But that was more of an art issue than an engine issue. Also UE3 is a newly devloped engine that debuts this winter. You can't really compare it to Oblivion.

This game terrifies me. Not because of the game itself, because Jep ****ing talks about it all the time. He'll probably forget my name again. :(

U3 engine shots and videos are amazing. The Gears of War videos are amazing as well, far superior to any of this.

Also, the tech demos of Crytek's next FarCry CryEngine (or whatever) are INCREDIBLE. Volumetric Clouds = mmrmghghghhh<3.

That would be incredible if one could deliver an entire computer cross continent without it getting smashed.
DO NOT WANT.

I'm (hopefully) getting it tomorrow morning. Surely there'll be at least one copy between Hastings, Gamestop, and Walmart. The best part is, I only work from 1-6, so I'll have most of the day to play!
2006-03-21, 5:34 AM #64
Well today is O-day, and my eb's got it for me. I'll pick it up at noon, and I took 2 hours off tonight to go play it. (nerdme)

If it's as good as the elder scrolls, I'll be happy. Is it? Sajn? :(

Well, keep in mind that unlike OTHER companies, BethSoft didn't start shipping to game stores AT ALL until the 20th. No matter how used to picking it up early you may be, NO store apparently got copies until TODAY.

Speaking on that, I happened to pick up my own copy today. Unfortunately, I have class today, and I can't bring myself to skip out, so playing will have to wait until later today. :P

I must say, the only dissapointment I've had thus far is the rather thin paper used for the instruction book; hardly the thick stuff used for Morrowind's.

Well, you are far from alone; I can perhaps understand your pain, though I'm more like in Jep's position than yours. There are apparently going to be a LOT of "temporary" "Oblivion widows/widowers."

(yes, not all Oblivion players are male)

Um, no. A lot of people did get it yesterday, it's just that a lot of stores were having it shipped in later in the day/after closing so it wasn't out on shelves yet.

Oh really? That was not what was said by virtually everyone, including BethSoft, 2K games, and every retailler I spoke with.

Some people might've recieved their copies on the 20th, if they had bought them online, though.

Well, I talked to my friend today at 10:30am who picked his up at EBGames yesterday. The mall which houses EBGames near us doesn't open until 10. So he got his on the 20th and not today. (I'm SOOO jealous!)

I've never played an Elder Scrolls game, but Oblivion looks pretty awesome. Unfortunately, I'm still running on Windows 2000 and Oblivion requires XP. This bites.
