Definitely a bit RAM intensive, but I'm not monitoring the performance that closely. Recommended RAM allocation for a multiplayer server is minimum 1GB, I think.

For minecraft, it seems like chunks loaded are chunks loaded, and whether it's a 1:1 recreation of Chicago or a blank default MC landscape, it's the same amount of data (12 chunk radius per player, etc.). Could be I'm misunderstanding this, though.

Have there been any new additions since 2011 to Star Wars: The New Droid Army

Due to popular demand (read: no demand), here's two photos of the PC game big boxes that I have:

DX:IW gets the honorary "big box" classification because - as a US edition - it's actually got a cardboard cover with a flap on the cover so it's sort of like a "mini big box"... a concept which did not exist in Europe at all.

Boh!

To my annoyance, the second disc of Anachronox is unreadable so I couldn't ISO/MDSify it for my collection, but then again I do have it on GOG.com as well. And due to eternityprojectitis and other reasons, I'm probably never gonna play it anyway, but eh.

Boh!

Hm, then again out of those, only Worms Armageddon, the Abe's Oddysee reissue, SW: Rebellion and Rogue Squadron were actually bought by me in the big box era of 1998-1999.

Boh!

Did you enjoy Anachronox? I liked it for a while but at some point the fights got too tough and although it's a role playing game (similar to like Dragon Warrior and the original Final Fantasies) I couldn't find anywhere to grind and get stronger. Once I killed the enemies in an area they were gone for good. After I lost one fight a bunch of times I couldn't figure out how to get stronger so I quit.

It was also pretty glitchy. I believe I still have the discs.

Sadly, I didn't get that far in Anachronox (never got past the first city) when I tried to play it in 2004 (right after Deus Ex) - it was indeed quite glitchy, especially with my computer at the time (Celeron 600mhz + TNT2 GPU). In further classic Nikumupatterns, I always got distracted by something else when I tried replaying it years (and years) later.

It seemed pretty enjoyable, though, from what I can remember. And at least I was able to load its savegames years later whereas with Shogo I never got my latest save games working with any copy of it (either CD or GOG version) ever again.

Has anyone played Horizon Zero Dawn? Enjoy it?
2019-12-02, 1:34 PM #1816
I played it and really enjoyed it. Some other big games came out right after and I never got back to it, but I've always wanted to go back and finish it

I've heard it's pretty dang good from some people whose opinions I respect.

Well I ordered it for $10 from amazon today; hopefully it will be fun. It's for PS4 which my son has but which we haven't turned on in years (since building him a gaming pc); hopefully it still works.

Very nice.

I feel terrible as I have about 50 games from that era but never kept the boxes! I just kept the CD cases as I never had the space :(

In mid-1998, I somehow annoyed my father enough so that he banned me from buying any more games, so I basically had to ditch the big boxes in the bin before taking the games home (usually smuggling them in my pants or something). I can actually remember quite clearly when I put the manuals and the CD cases and whatnot of JK and MotS to my backpack right before looking at the boxes for the last time before ditching them in the bin right next to the front doors to the place I got them from.

(Of course, after the ban had worn off, I kept ditching the big boxes in the trash to avoid questions like "Where are you getting these games from!?" etc.)

In other exciting news, in 9 days I might have finally reached the financial state I was in the day I before I ordered my current computer, thus marking the end of the Era of (UE4) Failure:

Since saberopus responded immediately to Thrawn's post - and keep in mind that Thrawn42689 = saberopus - and saberopus claims to know two people who like the game; he actually only knows just one - so Kroko won.

Well done, team.

I really enjoyed Horizon Zero Dawn, pretty much rinsed it.
nope.
2019-12-09, 8:20 AM #1832
What does "rinsed it" mean?

In this context, did everything there was to do.

As in rinsed clean.
nope.

On the Gamestop topic, one of this guys videos was suggested to me the other day and the horror stories reminded me of some of Jon's posts and he has a pretty entertaining demeanor. Here's a recent video of his.

Gamestop's Q3 earnings call is at 5 PM ET for those curious.

Quarter ended approx Nov 3, so it won't include Black Friday (which I've heard from multiple places was an unmitigated disaster for the company). But what that does mean is Q4 includes both Black Friday and Christmas, so we should find out by February or March whether the company still exists.

Yeah, I get it. I watched the one that popped up for me just due to the subject matter. But, like I said, the dude has a pretty entertaining personality. I also find it somewhat compelling to see YouTubers that are able to breakout at this late date ostensibly doing the same things that have been done to death already. The guy only has about 90 videos but with millions of views and nearly as many subscribers as Gamestop. I have not looked at any of his subjects such as Amazon yet.

Hackers/scammers/thieves whatever you want to call them have been hitting my EA/Origin account pretty hard. I got a weird notification a couple months back so I set my account to send a code to my cellphone when a login is attempted. I frequently get texts for login attempts, often in Russian or some similar language. I generally just ignore them since I have the TFA enabled.

Adjusted quarterly loss of $0.49 a share, more than triple what the most pessimistic analysts predicted.

CEO George Sherman blamed an "unprecedented decline in new hardware sales ... as the current generation of gaming consoles reach the end of their life cycle", apparently not realizing that the company he runs doesn't make money from new console sales. But at least we can say he's just making excuses, which is more than we can say for analysts who continue to chant claims like "Gamestop's voyage seems doomed as the digital storm intensifies".
