I was really hyped about that game from the first teaser they released, but as launch became imminent, reviews and reactions seemed to strongly indicate it wasn't quite what I'd hoped for. But with each new patch and each bit of new content, the responses of critics or reviewers I generally agree with has been increasingly favorable, particularly with this week's major release. I figured it was time to check it out, and figured the ideal way would be in co-op, running around together, building bases, checking **** out. That should get me at least some hours of enjoyment.

Any of y'all played it before (or now), and particularly liked or disliked it?

I played it a bit at launch and fell off pretty quick b/c it seemed like there wasn't much to do. I just got the update tonight and played a bit--it definitely seems like there's a bit more game there now. A random guy joined my game and sent me a friend request after not interacting with me which made me uncomfortable

Can you disable the ability for randoms to join your game? I assume you must be able to. I probably would. Not sure if there's much/any griefing potential, but still...

One thing I've noted in several SP mods (e.g. Dark Ties 1, Continuing Adventures of Mara Jade etc.) is that a lot of them have such confusing and unclear level design that I end up finding almost all secret areas instead of advancing in the actual campaign.

Also, it's interesting to notice how many editors took advantage of MotS' dflt.mat being JK's 00_basicwhatever3.mat (or whatever), because when you have a different dflt.mat active in MotS (say, the JK one), you'll notice that almost every custom level has a bunch of "I see dflt.mat" instances all over the place.

I kinda liked JK's dflt.mat, the squares helped me measure how big hallways should be. MOTS was easier to make lazy designs. Guess I'm not the only one who thought so
2018-07-29, 10:06 PM #287
Hmm. Has anybody ever had the guts to submit a dflt.mat box to Massassi and call it a holodeck level? :D
2018-07-30, 3:33 AM #288
I could have sworn there was a guideline like "don't submit a dflt.mat box!" in the level submission instructions.

Also, the CAPTCHAs have expired https://www.massassi.net/submit/

2018-07-30, 8:05 AM #289
Yes, I remember seeing that guideline as well! I just supposed that it would no longer apply if the level was a dflt.mat box on purpose, i.e., was in fact TRYING to be a holodeck (purely by virtue of the title of the level, but with no actual changes to the level beyond the default at all, except maybe to add additional walkplayers in a multiplayer version).

Of special Nikumunote: while it's always been a great level, only now did I realize how truly great Siege at Vol Kanst really is. The varied gameplay, the consistent and pleasant archi... ... even the Indiana Jones reference was tasteful! Wow! Compliments!

In fact, Vol Kanst could even be remade as a custom Dark Forces level. But still, I've never edited DF so it'd have to be for JK...

... What's this? There already happens to be a hi-res DF Kyle for JK?

O-ho-ho.... devilish laugh

Wish I could say the same... never got used to brush editing.

I guess there's just something really nice about being able to script a specific surface of the level rather than everything being an entity.

Ha, totally forgot about the "grans throwing a stormtrooper head around" bit in TNE:SE.

A lot of these late era JK/MotS SP levels would really have been quite popular if only they had been released several years earlier (duh). Alas...

Come to think of it, it's actually quite the shame that while the ReTard JK MP antics have survived, no one remembers these JK/MotS SP classics anymore. Aside from me (and Goit), of course.

You know, I still prefer Siege on Derra IV to level 6 of JK. And I've got to admit, the final scene with "The Throne Room" from ANH playing in the background still gives me goosebumps.

I don't know what this is, but it reminds me of the first time I ever tried to modify the player.3do and run it in game, and the model, when animated, would turn into a bunch of floating limbs, like a weird marionette doll.

You can also try typing in the cheat code into Jedi Outcast that lets you cut people's limbs off... but somewhat disturbingly, despite having still been severed, their limbs will still rigidly move in line with the original keyframe animation. lol

Still a grand shame that Elmo's Underwater Station wasn't finished. Now that guy knew how to JED it up.

Luckily, these two did get released

I just got an Xbox achievement for shooting a nazi in the testicles at over 100m

The game is Sniper Elite 3, which was recently on sale in the xbox store for $8

It even played a slow-mo X-ray view of the ball exploding

I'm gonna try to do it again and I'll take a screenshot for you guys

It's in Sniper Elite 4 as well, but there's also a separate achievement in the DLC to kill Hitler with a testicle shot.

Also, I noticed that even if you use dgvoodoo to play JK, JK tends to crash if there are too many "ultra" large textures (1024x1024 and higher) present on the screen. It made "sense" in TODOA 2- and TODOA TC SP, but I wasn't sure if that was the case since I got those crashes in The Fall of JuzSoft as well.,

.. which is when I remembered that the JKE (+ other hi-def texture/model mods) have textures in that range. So after temporarily disabling those hi-def mods - no more crashing.

Kind of funny, but eh. That's JK for you. At least you don't need to disable 3D acceleration. Incidentally, I've never played JK without 3D accel - even in my P166MMX days I ran it at 512x384 with 3D accel on instead of disabling it, no matter the lag.

Also, the crashing also occurred with JKE+others active in Magrucko 3, namely in this area:

[Unable to find specified attachment]

[Unable to find specified attachment]

... and no crashing whatsoever with those mods temporarily disabled. Oh well.

You should still play Magrucko 3, though.
