Ruthven is totally correct.
Psychological worst part of the medicine is depression probably. I mean you clear all your acne up and become a depressed person?
2008-06-30, 7:33 AM #6252
Which is why it is required of you for the first six months on Accutane to get blood tests. If anything is starting to go awry, they yank you off the drug. Dehydration was my main problem. I don't recall any depression associated with the drug. Also depression and that ilk were listed in the RARE side-effects.

I've been to the blood tests and they were all clear.

The ONLY side effect I've noticed has been the drying of lips and facial skin and that's easy to repair by applying lotion regularly.

I've been on a lower-than-usual dose since the beginning which has now been almost 7 months and there's no need to increase the dose, I suspect the low dose is why I'm not getting much side effects. The treatment ends in September.
Looks like we're not going down after all, so nevermind.

Happened to me. I didnt suffer depression till after I stopped Accutane at age 17. I took it again at age 18, and after i stopped the 2nd dose, my emo streak got worse and worse until i had to be put on antideps.

Coincidence? NO :( My doctor pretty much indicated theres a good chance Accutant is responsible. See Rob? its nawt ma fault :(

It's never anyones fault if your doctor keeps giving you things to blame it on and pills to fix the problems.

The ironic thing is that Rob is basically a textbook case of a clinically depressed individual in denial.

I've been depressed a lot, but I don't like the ideas of fighting chemical imbalances with other chemicals. It just seems ham handed and should be more of a last resort that doctors treat them. Head medications do bad things to people. That being said, some time you don't really have a choice.

For example I knew a girl in high school who took a proscription for ADD. She was very nice, but it did mess her up, especially when she went on and off it. I'm a little ADD and OCD (mild Tourette's)? If I really felt like I had to fight it, I would much rather use something natural like marijuana than some crazy quick fix cooked up in a lab. People need to realize that pretty much everybody had some kind of ADD or OCD, and that does not make necessitate special treatment or medication. There are some extreme cases, but most of the people medicating for it are not those people. Oversubscribing for things most people have had to work out on their own up until now anyway is just stupid.

Wait, what? Do you know what depression is? Depression is not being sad/angsty about something.

medication is overused and sometimes I think fixes the symptom instead of the real problem. My old psych professor used to talk about how if we're not happy 100% of the time we think there's something wrong and, of course, an actual range of emotions is natural. That being said, there are some legit problems out there and clinical depression is one of them if it's not over-diagnosed.

I think I just talked in a circle but that's nothing new :P
