Just started the Workboat Mate Program at PMI in Seattle. 2 year program to get a mates license. Think I'll end up with a 1600 ton Oceans. Actually about to leave on my first seatime gathering phase. Flying out to Tonga to join the Thomas G. Thompson, which is a research vessel ran by the University of Washington. I'll be a mess attendant for most of the next two months, with a bit of deckhand thrown in. Also on the bridge for four hours a day in addition to other duties. Definitely looking forward to it though. What sort of stuff are you doing?

I'm an AB on the Victoria Clipper actually. Hopefully they're gonna fund my mate courses for the next summer season though. 500 ton coastal. I've got a crapload of sea-time. This is all just bill paying, until I can become a doctor though. It's cool to have someone else from the area, though. PMI is good stuff, wish I could afford it.

Yeah, I had to take out a student loan to do PMI. Won't take long to pay off though. I'll probably go for a 100 or 200 ton inland Masters soon also to catch more work that way.

Avenger, chicks may dig firefighters, but do you take out hordes of college age womens on scientific expeditions to tropical islands? >__>
