I needed a telephone subscription and a more or less a proper phone (don't really want to use my prehistoric Nokia office mobile for personal calls), and got the Xperia Mini Pro for the price of a 2 year subscription. I will add that it does what I intend it to do pretty well.

So you bought a smartphone and got stuck into a smartphone plan with no intention of using it as a smartphone? Logic fail. Also, protip: you get what you pay for (there's a damn good reason it was free on contract, because it was god awful).

Elaborate then please, sir. I now pay about $20 more a month than I used to while using a crap 3 year old Samsung on which the touchscreen kept malfunctioning and not responding to my commands. Now I have an in-built keyboard and proper Wi-Fi. I was looking to sign a telephone contract at the time. You think it would've been better to go without a phone and save up for a year for an iPhone? I like the ability to take notes using an INBUILT ****ING KEYBOARD, 2gigs memory (not much, but good enough for listening to PodCasts *and* still have space left for music), and take photographs with a ****ing FLASH for a change. Why the hate?

You're paying $20 more a month for what any **** Nokia dumbphone with a slide out keyboard could do. I had a ****ty Nokia 6133 flip phone and it could play MP3s off of a microSD just fine. Finally, the LED Flash on smartphones is... mediocre at the best of days.

I couldn't care less about games. But seriously, you're not using the phone for anything smartphone related at all. Which is quite obvious, since if you had, you'd realize how god awful slow the phone actually is (the browser alone is a great indicator).

I've edited the first and last lines of my original post before I've read your reply, figured I sounded too defensive. Anyway, the browser seems to work at an OK speed. I mean, I know that this phone used to be crap when it just came out (hell, it didn't even have a ZOOM feature), maybe you tried it then? I can send e-mails, send pics directly to mails, etc., and I might start using it for work mails as well (unless they give me a BB to replace the ancient Nokia). And I honestly haven't had any browser speed issues when I could find a Wi-Fi. What else don't you like about it? Also, what, in your humble opinion, does a man using a smartphone has to use it for?

Because it does all those things glacially slowly. Load up Engadget's main (not mobile) website for instance. Time it. Go ahead and do it on Wi-fi.

You don't need a top of the line phone. Even a $100 phone would run circles around what you picked up. That's why I am trying to stress it's a poor choice. My friend made a similar mistake, and he's been hating his decision ever since (after about a week of using it, that is).

Edit: Keep in mind you are under contract to keep said phone for two whole years as well. It was slow as hell when it came out. It's REALLY slow now. Imagine what it'll be like in two years. This is the equivalent of buying not just a celeron CPU, but an OLD celeron CPU, and being required to use it for 2 more years, just because you think you're saving $100. In reality, you'll probably end up not using it the phone to its fullest potential because it'll steadily grow more out of date and you'll get tired of it bogging down. It already runs on an ancient version of Android, and it's going to see even less compatibility over the coming years.

The phone will steadily decline in performance as well as you add more stuff on it. The incredibly limited internal memory also ensures you won't be doing much with it.

The majority of the reviews I've read gave it 4/5 stars. Sorry that your friend regretted getting his phone and will check Engadget.com tomorrow when there's some Wi-Fi around (I've a wireless router somewhere, but don't really have the need to install it), but again, I haven't had any issues so far.
