Didn't know that much detail about it, nor did I know about South African Apartheid. That's pretty astonishing, to be honest. Were they ever taken to court?

Yes, but not effectively as far as I know. I don't have all of the details in my head. At least one holocaust case was settled (more or less; the plaintiffs dropped the case because IBM threatened to stop existing donations to holocaust survivors). A different case was thrown out due to statute of limitations, after IBM and the court intentionally delayed it. Another case was dismissed based on a separate Second Circuit ruling that the ATS doesn't apply to corporations, which I think might have been an appeal after IBM successfully argued that the corporate structure they chose deliberately to avoid legal consequences for participating in genocide do, in fact, protect them from legal consequences for participating in genocide.

But like I said, this is from memory. Regardless of the finer points, IBM, and corporations in general, are kinda, like, the bad guys.

So I guess when this was released, Alan Dershowitz said that Goldstone was "worse than Mengele". Pretty sure Dershowitz is one of the worst people to listen to on the topic of Israel.

For a fun investigation, search for the most delusional BTC investor post.

I'm guessing after, I think wall street is secretly pumping right now only to bet against it on CME this Monday

Quote:
Wall Street pump, get ready for the dump

Quote:
I don't know how we could have spiked up 4k in a day without "major financial institutions" joining the market.

Yep, Wall Street is super duper doing buying up shares to short their own position

Quote:
This so much. I agonized over it at 10k thinking it was going to correct but went ahead and pulled the trigger.

Now I’ve got a little more to invest and I’m agonizing again.

BTC $30k by Christmas.

Oh boy, some people are still bullish about the future price.

Quote:
After having almost a 10 year bull run in the stock market who the hell knows what the top is. The USD has a $60 trillion market cap. If Bitcoin hits just 1/60th of that you'll quadruple your investment.

That reasoning is.. interesting. Interesting that someone put that string of thoughts together.

Quote:
Actually, "investment" is the wrong word. This isn't investing at this point - it's gambling. These increases are based on nothing real.

A realistic comment gets met with:

Someone said it well in another BTC thread: "The country club is full of people that sold too early - not people that sold too late."

Sure thing dude.

I also stuff about "worthless fiat currency" when talking about USD

Uh-huh lol

Slow it down, boys. Im no economist, but I wager that this is a hell of a bubble.

There's also a bunch of bearish sentiment but lol, there's quite a bit of delusion fueling the bulls.

The only thing that's amazing to me is that in order for an investment in bitcoin to quadruple, bitcoin market cap would have to equal a trillion dollars. That's insane that it's a quarter trillion dollar market cap.

The Winklevoss twins' fortune could feasibly rival Zuckerberg's some day.

I don't have my headphones handy, but reports are saying that Trump was slurring his speech during his announcement about moving the embassy to Jerusalem today. Cognitive decline, or just journalists champing at the bit for evidence of senility?

I have generally dismiss any talk about Trump losing his faculties as being as ridiculous as the accusations against HRC that she was ill. But Trump's slurred speech was very noticeable, and it got much worse as the speech progressed. It was getting a little difficult to watch, to be honest.

One good thing about Trump's recognition of Jerusalem: at least now there's no pretense to U.S. neutrality, and we can stop pretending the U.S. is in a good place to be the peace negotiator.

from https://www.npr.org/2017/12/06/568773753/former-u-s-ambassador-to-israel-on-trumps-jerusalem-change

GREENE: Why is this announcement such a big deal?

KURTZER: Well, it's inexplicable from the perspective of our diplomacy and our foreign policy, and it's self-defeating with respect to the president's stated desire to achieve some progress in the Middle East peace process.

Trump's been running out of things to create powerful headlines with, so instead of say another dumb thing domestically I think he wanted to drum up drama by saying/doing dumb **** where it's gonna affect others.

I bet you a gazillion bitcoins that the next Democrat who makes it to the WH will make it their first priority to go on a big apology tour and beg for other nations and beg them to forget everything that Donald Trump tried to make the United States stand for.

Funny thing about BTC being the libertarian wet dream: it's primary use as a currency is for drugs and child porn, the defining product of that sort of person (sorry it's ephebephilia).

Whether he holds the degree isn't the point, point set topology isn't something you do research in. It's like a good few chapters of a topology text, and there aren't really open problems that can be solved with point set topology. Unless he's a time traveller from like 1920.

Not gonna lie: John McAfee's posts are so weird and delusional I actually did a search to see if he has some mental illness I'm inappropriately mocking. I can't find much but the guy's pretty obviously lost a few marbles over the years.

He's clearly making up his terminology as he goes, but one of the first things you do in point-set topology is monkey around with the algebra of sets, which forms a Boolean algebra.

I agree though that his terminology is very strange, and it's clear to me that he's just using it as window dressing to impress people who don't know this stuff.

It's clear to me that he's just peppering his language with terminology that he accumulated from his undergraduate days. Which is fine, if that's how he thinks. But it's laughable and morally wrong for him to use it to lend credibility to his theories when selling it to non-math people. God forbid I ever have to suffer people who mistakenly think I'm talking about Bitcoin when I use terminology from set theory because of him spreading this silly terminology around.

Also, wtf is this:

I get what he's trying to say (wait, am I so sure about that? Is this really saying anything?), but it doesn't have much to do with the math that he's claiming to rely upon.
