That's why I plan to start my own company. Finding people who would possibly provide some venture capital is a f.u.n. process.

It is pretty bad that I feel compelled to do this so that I never have to be an employee again. I worked one minimum wage job under a ****ty owner, and I do not comprehend why bosses/owners countrywide aren't having their houses firebombed. Being treated like an inferior is the worst feeling possible, yet a huge number of Americans tolerate it regularly.

I love neoliberalism because every year there are fewer and fewer boots I have to lick

Organization is discouraged and the criminal justice consequences of bringing criminals to justice outside of Uncle Sam's Mock Court are dire.

Wait, if you accept venture capital, Reid, you will likely be a minority shareholder in your own company. So you're not really in charge until you know how to milk your idea for money on behalf of its shareholders. Are you telling me that after all this socialist banter you really just wanted to line the pockets of some rich dudes?

If you can't beat em

But you're not joining them. You're not a capitalist, you're just making money on their behalf.

Don't get me wrong, starting a company can be a hugely rewarding experience. But I'm not sure I would accept venture capital (at least I'm not sure I would).

Although if you're just talking about seed investors, you're only diluting your shares by about 15% (or half that for Y-Combinator).

That said, I don't know what the laws are, but my understanding is that you will be legally obligated to maximize the profit of your shareholders (even if that means screwing over your customers, be evil, compromise your own vision, etc.). I don't know how this applies if you retain a majority stake, but I imagine it's the same.

Hmm, it looks like you can actually incorporate under specific bylaws / corporate constitution, which limits your exposure to eBay vs. Newark.

I was tempted to parrot some political scientists and say something like "capitalism is at war against democracy, and conservatives have decided they like capitalism more", but really who'd know? It's not like they're allowed to vote about it.

btw, on the topic of angels, this article recently hit Hacker News. Not sure if this is relevant to you, but according to this guy there is a trend of angel investors toward joining institutional funds instead of investing in seed-stage startups directly.

btw, if your goal for starting a company is a "lifestyle" choice, then all I can say is that you're ****ing nuts, since running a company for its own sake ain't exactly my idea of fun.

IBs have securitized seed investment. lmfao.

I'm clearly ****ing nuts. You speak to me, you should know this.

Given history:

- It’s gonna turn into a de facto Goldman Sachs monopoly, because they’re gonna make the choices and everyone else will be hangers on

- the IBs will without exception pass over legitimate investments and firehouse money at the same handful of politically connected scammers. Look at theranos. ZERO due diligence, if they’d even talked to a doctor they’d know their tech would never ever work. But they had a ****load of senators and former cabinet members on their board, so

- They’re going to create startup derivatives and bundle a bunch of crap together, which will be rated AAA through a malicious misapplication of statistics. I mean, what’s the odds that ALL of the social media companies will go out of business at the same time??!

- SF/SV tech startups is the only place private investment is actually happening anymore. That will... uh, stop. So the global startup rate is gonna make some new historical lows soon.

But at least it’s not state central planning!!!

Linking to the wantrepreneur discussion, because it's much more "enlightening" than the original article.

Quote:
That tax withholding is the only way that many Americans manage to save speaks more to a lack of self-control than anything else.

If Uncle Sam can save a lump-sum for you by deducting from your paycheck, you could have done the same (in fact, better) with a bit of resolve and a bank account.

"I don't understand how market economies work"

Quote:
> The solution to people’s inability to save is not for the government to hold their money hostage.

Meanwhile, in the real world where the left-hand side of the Bell curve exists, and where many people have poor impulse control, that actually is the solution to some people's inability to save.

"I don't understand how market economies work"

Quote:
> Most people simply say "I can spend until my bank account is empty".

I don't think this comes down to just individual discipline/budgeting either. If you rejiggled things to that people who live paycheck to paycheck suddenly have non-zero amounts of money in their accounts for most of the year, I bet you'd suddenly see cost-of-living prices/rent adjust upwards so that they're living paycheck to paycheck again, except then they're ****ed when taxes are due. Landlords etc aren't gonna leave money on the table.

"I don't u.... oh wait, I do understand how market economies work"

Edit: bonus round, let's speculate wildly about which party each of the above people support. I've got Republican, Democrat, and Democrat with nose held.

78% of Americans are living paycheque to paycheque, but that doesn't suggest systematic economic oppression of the American people, it's because they're bad people who deserve it.

You see, the issue with inward-opening doors for stadiums is that people are stupid and will push against the doors and literally burn to death in fires. Therefore people need to stop being stupid. This is clearly the Rational Approach to answering the question, not requiring outward-opening doors which don't block people in.

Spicy take: being a Republican means a total denial of sociology as a discipline. I can't think of any other group of people who are so consistently on the wrong side of scientific approaches to how humans behave.

If being a conservative just means that you’re more sympathetic to Old/Right Hegelianism than to Young/Left Hegelianism then call me a conservative.

This is because Americans are bad with money, if Americans were willing to negotiate harder and walk away from luxuries like humalog the manufacturers would have to lower their prices
2019-04-14, 2:08 PM #14029
or is this because of government regulation? I'm not sure. I have trouble keeping track. All I know for sure is that it's either happening because people need help or because someone tried to help them.

Being a conservative just means you're a political sadomasochist, voting for Daddy Job Creator in the hopes that they'll punish the people you hate more than they punish you.

I'm just responding to the notion that there is necessarily something wrong with the system when a majority of Americans are living paycheck to paycheck. People routinely justify debts because they can "afford" the monthly payment. I often make purchases in the realm of hundreds of dollars, and sometimes thousands, because I know I can cover it. I might spend all of a months income or more at times because of how I've chosen to budget my money and there isn't a system to blame. Certainly some significant percentage of people choose to live paycheck to paycheck.

Conservatives don't believe in punishing people with government. That's a leftist ideal.

what are you talking about, man? Do you expect us to forget that judges are elected? Ever heard of the whole "tough on crime" spiel we get every election from conservative justices on the ballot? Or the various ballot propositions regarding punishment that conservatives advocate for?

how can anybody be this brainwashed. Is cancer a leftist ideal too? Or maybe I just misread your post?

Yes, you're a conservative. You believe that government is a weapon to use against your adversaries. Obviously anybody who wants a government to do anything intends to sow misery, because that's exactly what you want and expect your government to do.

Remember that time radical leftist George W Bush prosecuted a war on Iraq to punish Saddam Hussein for not allowing radical leftist American megacorporations to do business there?

To be honest I almost edited that post to exclude criminal prosecutions but decided not to because I hoped nobody would be silly enough to get confused by that. I don't know if you misread my post or not. Your comprehension is somewhat unpredictable.
