But yeah I certainly understand why Jordan Peterson of all people might be sympathetic to someone who got fired for being "technically correct, but a real ******* about it". Of course, that's the #1 reason people get fired in the software industry, but I don't see him jumping to their defense. Just the sexist one. Hmm. Food for thought.
2018-02-16, 11:45 PM #7402
One thing that I immediately noticed about Jordan Peterson when I first heard him talk, was how irritated he appeared while speaking. Something isn't quite right with him.

He does frequently seem to catch himself before he's about to explode in rage. There's definitely a lot of animus in him.

By the way, if anybody is curious about how the Damore ruling went down, here's my summary:

The NLRA guarantees your right to organize to effect changes in working conditions, if and only if the changes around which you've organized don't conflict with NLRA or any other legal or regulatory obligation of your employer. Damore's attempt at organization conflicted with EEO. Therefore, any protections that would normally be afforded to him were void, and he was terminated without cause as an at-will employee. If that stupid adolescent had kept his sexist moron trap shut and made his memo about Google suppressing conservative views, he would have been protected. But no. He had to open his spastic 4chan mouth-colon and barf-crap out the idiot manchild's overwrought equivalent of "EEO is bull**** and Google should violate it". Bam. Fired.

The real reason these insufferable radical rightists keep getting censored and fired is because they have no impulse control and zero professionalism. Nobody gives a **** what you think. Play the ****ing game. Change the system from within. It's how the world works. You think I'd go into the office and rabble rouse for socialist revolution? **** no. I'd get fired. And these racist snowflakes should expect to get fired, too. Bearing your heterodox politics into the workplace is the adult equivalent of wearing a pork pie hat and carrying around a **** pillow. Nobody's gonna want to do a group project with you.

A wise man once said,

[quote=George Bernard Shaw]
The reasonable man adapts himself to the world: the unreasonable one persists in trying to adapt the world to himself. Therefore all Twitter wars depend on the sheltered and whiny unreasonable man.

There's nothing wrong with trying to change the world, but play the ****ing game. You are playing chess. You might prefer checkers, but you aren't ****ing playing checkers, so don't move your pieces like you are. Play. The. ****ing. Game.

God damn snowflakes.
2018-02-17, 12:18 AM #7407
So that's what they mean on 4chan when they try to argue that Trump "isn't making mistakes, but playing 4d chess". In reality he's not playing by any rules at all, and they too are just as blatant about blaming the game for their own losses and making up stories about what really happened, so that they admire it.

I've always thought that many... 'simple' people like the idea of having a man in the White House who might be as unclassy as to (say) buy a solid gold toilet, because it means that even someone as uncultured and ignorant as themselves can rise to the top.
2018-02-17, 12:27 AM #7408
I have a theory that a lot of the passion behind some of these angry white boy chan posters is that they often are smart enough to know better than to act so badly, but can paper over this sneaking suspicion by raging harder and making their enemy into the real problem.

Also, because 4chan and other forms of social media are always churning out new content, they can get stuck in this loop basically forever, whereas in the old days they'd have time to wise up and get a life.
2018-02-17, 12:32 AM #7409
In other words: They are smart enough that their brains crave connections, but starved by sloth and pride for credible ideas to connect.
2018-02-17, 12:34 AM #7410
Hey, welcome to social media.
2018-02-17, 12:36 AM #7411
Continuing the analogy, Jordan Peterson appeals to them because he's making more of that comfortable, familiar content. It's not new, it's not challenging, but it has a veneer of credibility. Like ordering salad at McDonalds, it's just as bad for you, and everybody knows it, but for a fleeting moment you can pretend that it isn't.
2018-02-17, 12:40 AM #7412
Bigger question in my mind: why is 55 year old Jordy McProfessorface raging on Twitter like a 14 year old? Is it all for the book deal? If he's getting rich off all this, making fun of him all the sudden feels much less satisfying.
2018-02-17, 12:43 AM #7413

N.B. Jordan Peterson's popularity is entirely built upon a months-long **** fit he threw about how a bill making it illegal for employers/landlords/etc. to discriminate against people on the basis of gender identity was in fact compulsory speech. He literally stroked out, and in the delirium of catastrophic brain death hallucinated an entirely fictional interpretation of a bill and vigorously protested against it, a bill that literally never existed. Dozens of lawyers publicly mocked Peterson for his interpretation (although, like, because they're professionals they didn't literally mock him, that's only something Peterson himself would do).

He's a ****ing idiot. When he's talking about psychology he at least kinda sounds smart, but whenever he talks about anything else he is a drooling moron. His fans are his fans because they're terrible people and he doesn't challenge them.

That said, even though that's a lot of money just for making some stupid videos, I think you'd have to be somewhat deranged to pump them out routinely and stay mentally healthy, so I doubt it's all just an act.

OK, so the internet is helping loudmouth idiots connect like never before. Good to know actually, I can ignore him completely now.

You can't try every possible way if you only get to die once.

Wow that is depressing.

I guess a good approximation would be to submit to being tortured. Then you can almost die many different times.

Alpha children wear grey. They work much harder than we do, because they've so frightfully clever. I'm awfully glad I'm a Beta, because I don't work so hard. And then we are much better than the Gammas and Deltas. Gammas are stupid. They all wear green, and Delta children wear khaki. Oh no, I don't want to play with the Delta children. And Epsilons are still worse. They're too stupid to be able...

I remember once him saying he didn't like saying that "gender is on a spectrum" because, while he recognizes that traits have some fluidity, it implies an even amount distributed across all characteristics where really most people's gender is the same as their sex.

I'm not sure who he's arguing to. I'm trans friendly and have a few trans friends, and I think most would readily admit that biological sex determines a pretty strong role in determining gender, just not an absolute one.

Hey, remember how bad the Equifax breach of personal information was? I'm sure these Russian spies had a whole bunch of other channels for such illicit information available to them, but what's to say that we all won't one day have the honor of being dedrauded by a foreign agent?
